My SoT Christmas List

  • Dear SoT Santa,
This is a list of things that I’d love to see changed in Sea of Thieves.

    1. Animation changes to un-stowing guns. Currently it’s very unclear when a gun can actually shoot leading to “gun didn’t shoot” frustrations for players. I’d like to see a clear hammer cocking animation with an audible click after which the gun can fire. This makes it clear to the player when a gun can fire and would improve the feel of all of the guns.

    2. Remove the swap delay for the blowpipe. The purpose of the swap delay is to control TTK. That’s not an issue for the blowpipe due to it not being able to deal damage quickly. All the swap delay does is harm the weapon feel of the blowpipe.

    3. Rework the DBP. The DBP feels terrible to use due to its fire-on-release behaviour. Due to the charge shot being “hold M1/RT” the normal shots are fire-on-release which causes a delay in shooting which harms aim and reaction time. Even for very casual players the weapon feels “off”. The fire button needs to be responsive, no balance change will make up for the weapon feeling bad.

    4. Melee hit markers. The hit feedback is terrible on melee weapons, it just plain doesn’t work. It’s not a secret and the solution already exists in the game in the form of the “server authoritative hit markers” setting. Melee hit markers would allow the hit feedback to benefit from “server authoritative hit markers” which would greatly improve hit feedback and reduce player frustration. The hit markers could take the form of a diagonal line which corresponds to the direction of the cutting animation to make it clear which strike the marker is giving positive feedback for.

    5. Server authoritative hit markers should be on by default and should possibly not even be optional. New and casual players are having a worse experience for no reason.

    6. Crossplay should be off by default. It’s not a secret that this game has a cheater issue. Progress has been made but the results are mixed. New and casual console players (who may not know that they have the choice) are having a worse experience for no reason.

    7. More earned throwing knife and blowpipe cosmetics. Especially “cleaner” cosmetics similar to the legendary throwing knife. This is just a me thing and I don’t expect everyone to agree.

    8. Fixes

    9. More fixes

    10. Please fix the game. I’ve been good this year.

It would make sense but at the moment I don't see it a priority for developement. When you press the "shoot" key in your game the gun shoots and you see how you have one bullet less in your inventory and the bullet goes out of the barrel.

    1. Remove the swap delay for the blowpipe. The purpose of the swap delay is to control TTK. That’s not an issue for the blowpipe due to it not being able to deal damage quickly. All the swap delay does is harm the weapon feel of the blowpipe.

The swap delay is the same on all weapons for design purposes. I think is difficult to program different delays for each weapon.

There needs to be a delay in shooting because of the heavy damage it inflicts if you get hit by two bullets.

    1. This would be a thing to prioritize for devs on future updates

    1. Server authoritative hit markers should be on by default and should possibly not even be optional. New and casual players are having a worse experience for no reason.

This is a choice that the game should tell from the beggining to new players so they know it exists. I think it should be optional as many people are used to client side markers from many other servers. There is no hit scan as in many shooters so there is always the option to choose which one people like according to their game sense.

    1. Crossplay should be off by default. It’s not a secret that this game has a cheater issue. Progress has been made but the results are mixed. New and casual console players (who may not know that they have the choice) are having a worse experience for no reason.

There should be a pop up for players telling crossplay is on by default. Also, I would suggest adding servers according to the game input (controller or keyboard) rather than the console you are playing in.

    1. More earned throwing knife and blowpipe cosmetics. Especially “cleaner” cosmetics similar to the legendary throwing knife. This is just a me thing and I don’t expect everyone to agree.

I guess they are creating models for all existing weapon variants for those.

    1. Fixes

I guess they are working on that.

    1. More fixes

Yeah, they certainly are working to give players the best experience they can.

    1. Please fix the game. I’ve been good this year.

Steam hasn't been reviewbombed so I guess playerbase is still happy with the game.
