i have heard a decent amount about kraken spawning but have found no definitive answer. can krakens only spawn when there arent world events or do world events just make kraken spawns less likley? also, is there always a kraken on at least one crew when there arent any world events? i do know the amount of treasure on a ship has nothing to do with it though.

It spawns when there are no world events happening.
Just random as far as we know.
It changed quite a bit over time though, more ships now, 6 ships and sometimes 7 I think? so that's a 1/6 or 7 instead of a 1/5 when there were 5 ships. HG, Pve diving, event raids. Changes the hunt quite a bit.
Nothing else really matters other than putting yourself in open sea so it can spawn on you.
I'd imagine I have the most individual spawns/kills and my "secret" has always just been that I play organically only and I play a lot. Investment in the server is the highest chance of consistent spawns over time.
Merging while playing organically will keep them consistent as well.
I suppose one could server hop/dive hunt them but that's inconsistent.
Consistency is everything in hunting otherwise the rng could be even worse with worse results.
A lot of people are hopping and diving and sitting at islands/gathering loot. Be the one that can regularly get the spawn and you'll get some spawns.
Patience is necessary in hunting but that's not the key to a good hunt. The key to a good hunt is filling the time with what you enjoy, while having an objective. I love my time between the kills, that's the cake, the monster kills are the frosting.
@wolfmanbush That is how it used to work but it seems no longer be the case. I had it spawn on me the other day while there was also a fort of fortune going. I was actually sailing towards the fort of fortune when it attacked me. And it was still there after I scared the kraken away.

There is some bug I've run into a few times with krakens where the ink spawns but before it rises the kraken ends and a world event is up.
If yours got past the ink stage then I haven't seen that. But I have seen the failed kraken spawns that I assume have something to do with either raid events or some sort of merging thing happening
You may be experiencing a visual bug or something because I have seen a fof up with another world event up for a short time before. I always assumed visual delay.

Some say that they have been merged after anchoring for a meg spawn and I haven't had that happen in years of hunting and thousands of spawns so it's possible that it's just something that I haven't run into yet.
