Broken hourglass without players

  • Suggestions for Improving Sea of Thieves PvP (Hourglass)

The Hourglass mode on South American (SA) servers is practically empty. We spend too much time underwater searching for opponents, making it increasingly difficult to level up our emissaries. Sea of Thieves needs a new PvP mode—something like Raids or Open-World Emissary Hunting, where players can engage in more organic naval battles instead of relying solely on matchmaking.

As a long-time Sea of Thieves player (you can check my account’s age on the forum), I’ve noticed a significant decline in the player base. Back in the day, the Hourglass was much more fun, with plenty of active crews. Nowadays, most battles end too quickly, with ships sinking almost instantly (likely due to an exploit).

If Rare wants to keep PvP engaging, they should consider expanding the system—whether by incentivizing open-world sinkings, adding new PvP events, or fixing the current issues with the Hourglass. Otherwise, the mode (and possibly the game) will continue losing players.

This opens up a gap for new players starting out in PvP, I believe that most who enter this mode come across tryhard players or cheaters and end up giving up on the hourglass. PvP mode should be rethought for everyone

Almost as you…just sail the open sea and attack or get attacked by other players. Without hourglass. It’s a thing already.

You can still activate hourglass but don’t dive. Defend.

The game is not dying. Steam charts are not indicative of the entire player base.
Nor is PvP the one magical thing retaining players.
