I only want keyboard support for typing. I use voice chat but for those who don't want to use it.
Xbox One (S or X) Keyboard and Mouse support
Hmm? You be wantin' my opinion, eh? Well, if you want my honest opinion, then yes, Mouse and Keyboard gives players a pretty large advantage over people using a controller.
With that being said, however, i've met people who had used Xbox controllers in this game who had similar skill levels to myself and were completely capable of dominating in the game, to the point he could wipe an entire crew single-handed, some of which were PC players. Also, just because a person has access to a mouse and keyboard doesn't automatically make them a good player. I've seen my fair share of mediocre PC players. Just because you give someone the tools for the job, doesn't mean they know how to use them.
only time i played xbox with a keyboard and mouse was when i played ffxi back some years now so wasnt aware about the lag now.
that being said i dont assume that cross platform or console vs pc will be an issue, people just need to learn how to avoid certain scenarios like being boarded or jumping onto an island without checking it 1st

Like i said, when i tried on pc i could tell there was a noticeable difference in turn & aim speed. Even if you put controller sensitivity to max, you still don't come close!
As i'm mainly a console player i'm more used to the controller & am not too great on using a keyboard. However on pc i could get round this by using a controller for most things, & as soon as i got into battle i used the controller + mouse. This again felt like i had a major advantage as i had all the control over movement with the controller & all the aim & turn speed of the mouse.
A simple test would be to have a standard duel, PC Player vs Console player.
Stand 20 paces apart facing away from each other looking at the floor, on the signal turn, aim & fire. PC will win 8 out of 10 at least!i know people who play on pc that use an xbox one controller for this game, myself i dont as i cant use controllers anymore but people do use them so alot of what is being thrown around is useless

So in my opinion a skilled console player, shouldn't really feel at a disadvantage in the game because it's cross platform.
this is 100% true, a decent console player can hold their own against a pc player.
the advantages over console for pc is minimal if the console player has a brain

now why would you go and do that, they cant change the system without hurting sales and the servers already in place, if they change anything to do with cross platform it will ruin the game and servers, also it would cost them alot of money for people not wanting to play without crossplay.
alot of pc gamers wont buy the game if cross play is not always on because the servers will be shoddy
@j4dio In The Division you can easily spot players who cheat with mouse and keyboard. They can move like you never will with a controller. It feels really bad when you are killed by them.

There will always be exceptions to the rule, & as you put it, there will always be mediocre players on both formats as well.
As this is a cross platform game, it HAS got to be balanced better.Game breaking? Definitely not. Depends entirely on the mind set of the people involved, their intentions, their desires, etc. Most people come to this game to relax and sail around. There are not too many out there who come here to be competitive, if you ask me. My RL friend just joined the beta and he’s a better shot than me. I mean way better. He’s also a PC player. But when it comes to game mechanics like aiming the cannons and sailing the ship, he isn’t quite sure what to do/the best way to approach certain situations, etc. Now if you get next to him you’re going to die, but we had sank to a competent crew because they worked together and knew how to operate the ship, etc. So yes.
TL;DR
PC players have an advantage but it’s not the end of the world.it already is balanced, ive been a constant pc gamer for years now and the hardest battle me and my crew faced was vs console players (we won just, we all died but their ship had more holes so sank faster than ours)
inb4 people ask how i knew, i got a msg from one of them saying nice battle i replied saying nice battle you shuold join up one day, gave me his xbox tag and said im on console sowe have to use xbox chat
@yellowspider88 It's not a big deal to have separate realms on the servers, for example I play Path of Exile which uses that method. I think it should be the player's decision to go crossplay or not. It's a good feature, mainly when you have friends from the other platform. But when people learn to play the PVP part, and you will constantly die from PC players, then you'd switch crossplay off :) And never forget the cheaters and hackers on PC, that is a major problem there.
@fade-h*n Well my experience of this game so far, still hasn't swayed me to run to my PC to play. My skillsets in-game are many things that are certainly not inclusive of CQ combat. I am happy to admit I am rubbish at that (not including Skellies, if you can't kill something that's already dead, then you might as well go stand in the corner) but PVP up close and personal, Is not my strength at all. However, I never feel like It's a forgone death for me because I'm on a controller up against a potential M/KB player, just my opinion, I just don't feel it in this game, if we were talking RB6 Siege, then yeah cross platform would be a nightmare.

Yes a skilled console player may be as good as a pc player.
But a majority of console players won't be.
The most prolific pirate during the tech alpha @Capta1n-Cr0ss (a pc player) has stated that PC players have an advantage. You don't seem to grasp that fact.
Plug a controller into your pc & do a full 360 degree turn, then do the same with a mouse which is quicker?
Do a 180 turn, which is quicker?
Aim at your feet & then the sun, which is quicker??If a player just starting out is at even the smallest disadvantage because of their format, then that isn't fair & needs to be addressed!
something no1 has said that i think i need to and as you mentioned you have console and pc its better to get your feedback or opinion.
console is better for the player who wants to relax and have fun, pc is for the player who wants to be focused (not saying console players dont focus) its just you can relax on couch/sofa where as pc gamers sit in an upright chair mostly.
i prefer the control of pc gaming and cant use a controller to aim or anything so its what works for me.
i dont claim wither one has an advantage but it is easier to play on a pc imho

Don't get me wrong J, i much prefer the controller over KB/M & i much prefer to play on xbox than pc (mainly coz my pc is a dinosaur).
I'm with you, i'm an average player, i can hold my own & have given a good account of myself when needed.
But with Rare's constant 'level playing field' analogy, i feel that this is something that does need looking at again!!i never claimed pc didnt have an advantage i know it does but its not a huge one.
pc has the aiming yes but console have keybinds (atleast currently)
a console player can press Y and swap from weapon to weapon and fire a shot from each super quick, pc cannot, so 1 advantage for one is a burden for another. pc has better parts on some but console on others
there simply is no fix to this if they limit the in game speed people change their dpi, it cannot be done, only fix is to make the game none cross platform, but then they are going to the point of what they said at e3, they want more and more games to become cross platform to increase player base.
as ive said i agree that pc has an advantage but its not game breaking and its not that much

Xbox can press Y and switch through weapons? That’s no advantage. You have a mouse wheel that does the same thing quicker.
press and shoot a mouse has change times, on xbox its faster. also currently for alot of player the bug with scroll wheel is the weapons are not always in the same order, sometimes pistol is 2 and sometimes its 4, blunderbuss swapped from 4 to 1 the other day for me
ok tell me im wrong about a bug ive seen with my own eyes and even when reporting it a responding email said they were aware of the issue and it had been forwarded to their response team. sorry forgot you work for rare right?

No, but we have a ton more game time & experience, & tbh a lot of what you have posted is incorrect!and as for the switching times i was commenting about someone eles post having them say it was possible, i play on pc so dont care how consoles work nor do i know
Yeah, sorry to have offended you I’ve only been playing this game on a PC since May of last year. What do I know, right?
Well I think this debate just needs some clarification, either from Devs, or something else that I can't think of, I'm not sure it will ever be a truly level playing field, but I don't think the advantage is too much. As previously stated, I'm going to play on both devices this evening, and no doubt get in a fight (if only you could invite a specific crew to your server, would make life easier! ) but I will try my best to work out how much difference there is within this game. Any other pure PVP game I know for fact the difference, with SoT I don't know the advantage matters. Need to check for myself I suppose.
well done to you, does that mean you are immune to the bugs thats are in the beta?
i was simply saying that your game time does not make a difference in what you see now, you have not played this exact beta before as it is new to this time.
i have said many times that i agree with you and cross about the pc gamers have it easier but was pointing out what other people on consoles said
your game time is not a fact here, the bugs that exist now may not of may last year, also unless you play on console and pc at the same time to encounter the bugs you cannot claim to know everything

For me the issue is in the aiming, but i don't think that'll ever be properly rectified because no matter how you coat it, a mouse is more accurate & faster than a controller!I know that you don’t know what you’re talking about. And at this point I’m on my phone and not even going to explain why. Any console players here that want a proper answer, PC players do have advantages and we can cycle weapons faster than you.
