"Nvidia physx like" effects. Yay or nay?

  • Howdy all.
So I was thinking... SoT is a beautiful game. It has the best water graphics in gaming, amazing weather effects and overall a good style that will hardly ever get old. Now I always was a huge fan of Nvidia physx in games. The shiny mass particles and realistic cloth simply look eye candy. Now I'm not talking about Nvidia cuz their physx is pretty much dead but I'd like to see a similar option in game that we could turn on and off for all the fancy stuff Unreal Engine 4 can offer us but still leaving the game playable for older machines. Just a little more rubble breaking of the ship when it gets hit, volumetric mass particles like sparks or smoke coming out of the cannons and other sources of fire? Maybe a little nicer water effects when its being poured in ship through the holes? I guess destructible cloth for sails would be a bit.. Weird but maybe make it move around?
Oh and BTW, I noticed that trees don't bend too much during storms. I'd love to see that added even on its own. Like in the Witcher 3 or Crysis 1.
Anyway. Am I the only one? Leave me your thoughts.

  • @tuls-elbaroda Hi there!

In my opinion the game looks stunning already. They way the art department chose the comic stylish approach (can you say it like that?) :D - makes the game unique and will prevent it from looking somewhat "old" in the future if you compare that to realistic designs back in the day like far cry 1 for example.

Sure, you can always improve effects but I think they made a pretty decent balance between good looking and being playable on many devices. But nothing is set in stone here. :-)

  • @cptnspackjarrow Ofc, that's pretty much what I said too. All I'm saying is, that some decent looking effects that could be turned off and on to allow slower PCs to run as they did until now, would add a nice spark to the game. Not that it needs it, but I always like to see these "next-gen" fun details. Thinking about stuff like borderlands 2 has. Maybe not the liquids but the way different materials leave little pieces around when you shoot them, fire has little sparks that bounce of surfaces around and get taken by wind. Similar little things that don't change the style of the game, yet add another level to it. But I do get what you mean. The game doesn't need it as it's already gorgeous :)

  • @tuls-elbaroda This is possibly a thread @TEDDY-25 might like to comment on.....
