Map Table: Point and Tap

  • Let's say that a crewmate is already the first one on the map table and has control over panning and zooming. I come along and interact with the table to get the same top-down view as them. If I hold down the left trigger, my character's finger extends and points at the map. I can use my thumbstick to move my finger around, and I can pull the right trigger to tap my finger on the map.

    • Would up to 3 hands obscuring the map be too much?
    • Should hands be semi-transparent if hovering over any island or text?
    • Would this unnecessarily add to the amount of information that needs to be passed between players over the internet (packet latency), if voice chat can do the same job faster?
    • Should this be a non-verbal alternative for players without voice?

  • This is a very interesting ideas especially for those not using voice chat.

  • @nos37 I think that’s a great idea. Definitely needs to be added for non verbal communication. Also, the action of pointing to the map was shown off in trailers.

  • @nos37 I think some non-voice players love you now. And will love you more when they add it.

To answer your question, I think that the hands can get semi-transparent when hovering over themself.

  • I love the tap idea but can already see myself in the brig from aggressive tapping

  • I think that the pointing and tapping is a great idea. I myself am a voice chat gamer, but this would help a ton of people who use only non-verbal chat. Very clever!

  • Yeah this would be handy for those times you're hunting around looking for the island you need and the other crew around the map that have spotted it and are able to point.

  • Do you think that the pointing should be maintained by holding the left trigger, or should it be toggled by pulling the left trigger?

  • I think a point and tap mechanic would be very useful for those that are/choose to play not verbally

  • @nos37 I think holding the trigger would better simulate the pointing action
