My Voice Chat isn't working on PC

  • So, I've tried enabling windows to allow SoT to use my Microphone as well as xbox app, and still I can't talk to people or hear them, They don't hear me, I don't hear them. This is kind of disappointing being a lot of this game is RP and communication, if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this that'll be great, that or know what's causing it thanks.

  • I have an issue where people can hear me but I cannot hear people on Xbox without starting a party with them... shrug

  • @picklebeard22 Cant speak for pc but some of the xbox voice issues literally can be fixed by pulling the mic and plugging it back in. Had it where I can hear all but one person on my crew, the rest can hear that player and they them but they also cant hear me, a mic reset fixes it usually.

  • so where is the actual fix for this problem? do these devs even care that so many people have issues with their game? voice chat doesn't work, alt tab disconnects you from the game server, etc etc etc....this game is just riddled with issues all stemming from the fact it's running as a stupid Microsoft app. if this game were to simply be normal like every other game out there and run on its own, we wouldn't have these ridiculous issues. it's pretty sad when this game could have so much potential.

  • @craqerjaq Ahoy!

There is an extensive guide here if you are facing this issue...

    I've already done this...

  • Yea it's not any of those things (though I do agree some folks think it is).

Here's the issue, happened after one of the last patches for BETA (the previous beta last weekend is when I saw it happen). Worked fine, but then all of a sudden they changed how the in game "gain" works on your PC mic. Reduced majorly, and you have no way of changing it in game. The reason I know this is that if you join a party chat? You will be heard loud and clear. Can I also guess you have a USB mic? If so it's a known issue in Windos 8/10 that USB mics have low gain (unfortunately no fix).

Do make sure in the Xbox app you have the right Mic selected in Settings (you probably do but just saying to double check). Unfortunately until they fix their code, this will sadly be an issue :(

  • Not sure if anyone is still having this issue as I know it's an old thread but by Google Search.. I'm hoping this message finds you well. I was having this issue too even after following everything on the guide above. But I finally got it...

    • Go to the speaker on the right hand corner of Windows 10.
    • Right Click on Playback and Recording Devices.
    • Right Click on Both Headset and Mic that you're using in-game.. and select Make Default COMMUNICATIONS Device (or something along those lines)
    • Also make sure that when you go to Xbox App go to Settings and make sure on the option where you choose your microphone and speaker make sure that the same devices you selected as your default communications device are chosen on the XBox Live App.

I REALLY HOPE this helps. I was frustrated and annoyed too and this ended up working fine. \

  • @geministatic i appreciate the try! but unfortunately this hasnt solved it for me.... I have perfect game audio, but no voice audio. Intrestingly, when I push to talk, nobody can hear me, and nobody even sees the icon above my head.

Like Monkeychow suggested, i am using a USB mic, and like CraqerJaq suggested i suspect it's a function of running within microsoft's weird framework.

For One, the option menu's selection of whether Voice goes through Speakers or headphones doesn't make sense on a PC... I get that you need to make options menus simple for dumb xbox controllers, but on a PC, go ahead and add a drop down to select specific audio outputs, and give me an effing test button. solved.

Really freaking upsetting, it absolutely ruins the game...

  • Hit or miss for me. I had one session where it worked perfectly, and not one since.

  • I open the game on my PC but it is simply loading a black screen on the startup and gradually crashing itself automatically in few seconds. Any solution? Showbox Mobdro Tutuapp

  • @thejeffjohnson Awww dude that is frustrating. I'll see if I can musk up anymore information I would wish this upon my worst enemy but lets try to do something really quick.. try to Windows + G and Record and use talk into the mic to see if it at least records sound when recording video.

  • Throwing my name in here as my microphone is also not working in-game but works literally everywhere else and it is also a USB headset.

  • Same issue. It works if I join a party in the xbox app, but I've only heard one person in game the entire time, and that was just a whisper of sound, which I only noticed because I saw the icon above his head.

  • Same here. Tried everything, my NAT is open my sound setting are all correct. Never heard anyone and can't get anyone to respond to me speaking.

Utterly ruins the game. Only way I can play is with friends through Discord, alone or with mute randoms. Boring as hell in the later two :(

  • @destinedrhino73 this game’s voice chat is garbage, my friend has the same problem as you’re experiencing..

  • Same here with me. I have switched my default three times to other mids or headphones or speakers and I can't hear Enemies, but I can hear my crew. #frustrated

  • I was running into this issue as well.

There is a lot of different things that not setup correctly on my computer that was causing it. This had to do with me changing the default setting of many different default windows services and drivers.

after i had restored everything to their default settings, My NAT type went from moderate to open. I was still having problems though. I thought that maybe i needed to adjust my audio settings at the driver level so i alt tabbed to windows and i saw a prompt i had not seen before.

My virus Scanner, Kaspersky, was detecting the audio service for SoT Crossplay and a possible malicious network traffic. It blocked the network traffic for the service for this reason. After adding to the exceptions list, and alt tabbing back into SoT, all SoT party chat audio was restored.

This information may not help everyone.

Well using Kaspersky is a huge mistake in general lol. Besides this issue has nothing to do with your pc settings. Its an error in the game or with xbox app.

  • same problem.... mic is activatet...discord and ts³ its okay... in the app absolute fuuuuuuu
we need rly a another option pls this app is so broken

    1. check to see if your drivers are updated (its always better to be safe than sorry)
    2. under recording devices, find the device you want to use, set as default, turn off then turn back on through that menu (disable enable)
    3. make sure you have push to talk OFF! and voice chat indicator on! (when you speak in SoT with this nifty indicator, it will show if your speaking with a lil bubble on the top right corner, this is to let us know that SoT is reading your mic)
    4. adjust the thingy mabob i cant remember...THE SENSTIVITY OF THE MIC! theres a term...output? anyways, crank that baby up! the game has chat very quietly, but make it loud enough, so if you can have a way to hear yourself, you can hear yourself
    5. uhhh things...trying to remember...make sure your mics powered on (ik this is dumb but ive had those moments where im like im a idiot i forgot to press power on...)
    6. INGAME CHAT VOLUME! crack it to 100...dont ask just do.
    7. feel dumb because you cant think of step 7 or 8
    8. ....im at a lost...
    9. try again? idk

im not super techy savvy but i hope this works!

  • @onyx-wartooth
driver worked then the mic working by ts3 and discord. this is no headset problem....in cant only in this app speak.
sot is in the mic app on xbox app is on..... it doesnt work....

  • OMG this is an issue?

The other night I could hear my friend but he could not hear me so I assumed my microphone was broken and spent £90 on a new headset. It arrives today.

  • @berinda1986 If you can't hear your crew mates in game too,
check Apps & Features - SoT - advanced options

  • @crimsonraziel
i hear my teammates only they me not

  • @berinda1986 Wouldn't hurt either, but never had this case so far. Sorry.
