Seasoned players

  • Definitely want this game. So I have an issue about it that I need answered. If you restart the game just to play from scratch again, will all the treasures and clues be randomized? Or will everything be in the same locations? The fun of exploring, and not already knowing the treasure locations will be dead. And other gamers will camp near or race you to your treasure if you're legit new, and the others are veterans. Do Rare have a plan for this?

  • @adny2 I'm not sure about the riddles, but that's a good question. As for being "camped" I wouldn't worry. There should be enough content at launch to keep everyone busy and with limited players per server, you can avoid people pretty easily. Also, welcome to the forums!

  • Good question here. I guess that the maps that come out from the voyages are randomly taken/generated from a pool of the appropriate level of the voyage. The location for the riddles will be always the same, the paintings, the graveyards, the cages, scarecrow, and so on are always in the same spots. But keep in mind on one island there ore tons of them, i will not be warried at all about that. I dont know about the maps with the X. Meaby they can be just in some location or spawn in any place you can dig.

  • I believe that every voyage will have randomized clues. For example if you choose the first voyage, it will be different clues/locations compared to other players.

  • It is more random than people may think. From what I know, the riddles are broken up into sections (2-4 sections per riddle). Each section of a riddle also has randomized locations in it. In short, don't worry. There will be literally hundreds of possible locations for a treasure chest, maybe even a thousand considering the size of the islands.

  • From what I saw, there are a lot of options for the riddles and maps.

Riddles have set points to go to, the sun stone is a common one, and most islands have one, but they have other paintings, other landmarks to pick from for the final point.
They are pieced together and require an action, while I did not play enough to see this, its possible there is no set riddles, just riddle options which are pieces together when the island is chosen and the final chest location. The riddle does not tie together, its just go here, play music, go here, flash light, go here and dig.

I feel from the design of the maps that they are not fixed. When a map is created it puts 1 or more chests on the island and the map receives the x's. Every island could have a lot of places for chest because for the maps you are not looking for a set locations, most of them seem random. I feel like I travelled to the same island more than once to find the chest in a different location.

  • I can confirm that shipwreck and flotsam/jetsam locations are randomized. Can't speak for quests as I might have done three the entire time in alpha and beta.

  • I've heared there are 3 more maps to play on. As far as I know every voyage is kinda randomized, but eventually you will come across the same locations anyway. This game is a grindfest

  • thanks for the responses, everyone. I do hope the treasure locations and riddles from the maps/ clues will keep gamers on their toes no matter how many times they replay the same one quest. As far as the islands, I used to play a game back in the days on Dreamcast and original Xbox called Phantasy Star Online. Brilliant game, and it solved a similar issue by randomizing the playing field. Any one stage you're playing was puzzled together so that players wouldn't know exactly how to get from beginning to end when compared to the last time they played the same stage. I would hope the general areas of the islands in the game are puzzled the same way between every new game that is created from scratch.
I'm looking forward to Sea Of Thieves. And I'm looking forward to getting lost, trying to find treasures. And I'm looking forward to replaying the game over and over, without already knowing all the answers to the maps/ and riddles. It would really suck if 50 gamers are situated in one location battling it out over one treasure because they instantly already knew where to run to when they started their game.

  • Seasoned player?...I'm more pickled.

  • @iviikeonxbox seasoned meaning veteran players of this game when compared to novice first time players to the game

  • Is there a need to restart/reset your game as progression is horizontal. Restarting wont present any greater challenge, all you'd do is loss all you r stuff, and lose access to being a pirate legend. One point is though if you start a ne charactef (which I do understand the desire for), do you keep all your horizontal progression.

  • @adny2 To answer your question all quest are indeed randomized. i have done every quest at least twice never being the same. But as for restarting the game there currently no mechinism in place for that as once you select your character in the final realease of the game it will be perminately attached to your gamertag. As far as it has been reported from the newsdumps.

  • I’ve done the same quest twice in one day, because someone else boyght the same one as me. The island was the same but the clues and distance and direction to dig was different from what i could tell/ remember

  • thanks for the answers.
so there isnt an actual amount of standard quests. like completing 100 prebuilt, prewritten adventures to keep players busy? i could imagine completing them all, and knowing where all the answers are if i were to go through them again. thank goodness they're randomized. games like Ghostbusters and LA Noire (for example) could of really bebefit from this. Great games with mechanics to solve clues and exploring should never be one-off games.

  • @lucid-stew said in Seasoned players:

    flotsam/jetsam

I learned two new words today.

  • @adny2
It seemed to me where riddles lead,
The only pirates there were dead.
    Loot-filled islands great and small,
One could hardly camp them all.
