Weapon Loadout

  • Hey Rare LTD. thanks for giving us a few changes to the loadout options regarding weapons. While I do appreciate not having to scroll through my available weapons four times, it still feels like we haven't hit the sweet spot on console. Two seems very minimal when it includes the rapier.
I feel that the rapier should be a standard equip item that may be able to utilize the D-Pad L or R on the controller and the Y button quick swap could then be freed up for the flintlock, blunderbuss and rifle. Combat in this game is already pretty simplistic and two options really changes a lot about the game feel. Three would may be an ideal number for loadout. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • @mexicated I completely agree. I think have a total of 3 weapons (1 sword & 2 guns) would be a good go between. Plus with the limited amount of ammo that each guns carry it seems a bit light.

I concur. How often have we seen a pirate without a cutlass? It's a hip-slung go-to item that should always be available. A melee weapon should be available at all times.

  • I think two weapon slots is good. You actually have to choose a more restricted fighting style which gives your character clear weaknesses and strengths.

I hope Rare makes more interesting weapon combinations available through the two slot system. I'd personally like to have dual wielded rapiers and a portable mini cannon taking up both weapon slots.

    SoT skeleton concept

A mini cannon that takes both slots, YES YES YES

  • Having 2 slots is perfect in my opinion, anymore and it turns into a spam fest with the blunder buss and the pistol. limiting the player to 2 weapons really makes you consider what weapons you are going to need for different situations, adds more depth to the game

  • @mexicated

I will never be without my cutlass. The secondary weapon will vary with mission intent.

Can't say enough how much I appreciate this change. Each shot needs to mean something now as it should with a flint lock gun.

  • @blacknail

Better yet, how about a stationary gatling gun that consumes 2 slots? Very situational and most likely only used on your ship.

  • I love the changes, 2 weapons is fine good job RARE!

  • I too think that having 3 weapons at most would be best in my opinion. The way you scroll across all 4 weapons back in the alpha and beta would be hard, and can sometimes be an unfair advantage in Player vs Player situations, but the 2 slots just feels very restricting and it doesn't feel pirate-like. The three slots would be just perfect.

  • I like the two slots. . Thanks Rare for the change.

  • I get what Rare was trying to do but I disagree with only having two weapon slots. Everyone I pvp with now just use the sword the whole time. Probably because we only get 5 shots. I end up getting more kills because of it but fighting becomes boring and stale very quickly.

  • i think that 3 weapons: 1 melee, 1 "short" firearm like a pistol and 1 large firearm like a sniper or blunderbuss.

3, I agree. Spawning in with 2 guns and no ammo is a bucket of yuck. It makes having the cutless almost a necessity.

  • @blacknail I think sword being basic is a must have, spawning in with no ammo and in melee range with no sword is almost certain death. The previous sessions were fine at 3 weapons any confrontation was fair, but i do think 4 weapons is too much for sure.

  • I've been loving 2 weapons. Most of the time I use sword/blunder for PvP situations. But there's other times where it has been beneficial to slap on something like pistol/reach, like when all the enemy players just got sunk and are swimming towards your ship. I'm somewhat open to seeing 3 weapons again, but I think we need more weapons in the game before we test that. 4 was terrible though. Almost every fight on a ship was just cycling through each gun to chip another player down. It went down to a swordfight far too rarely.

  • I think two weapon slots is where its at. It think its great
I like the Cutlass and the blunder combo

  • I think two is exactly the right number. That way you have to make some hard decisions about what you're going to do, which adds some fun, IMO.

    Definitely needs tweaking for sure.
