I think the first idea already appeared here, when a boat is sunk, as soon as the mermaid appears, any death respawn should be on the new island with the new boat, and not at the mermaid.
Why ? Imagine a solo or duo sinking a 4-man galleon with some chests inside. Those chests should be the reward, but for now it's very difficult to get them and not being killed by 4 pirates always respawning at the mermaid and getting into your boat.
Another idea, we should have a way to make a hole in an enemy boat with tools, from the inside (sabotage). This could be useful after a sneak attack, or even after you boat sunk and you survived enought to get on the ennemy boat.
And last idea, let us ride on a floating chest or barrel to avoid shark attacks. We will not be able to move on them but at least maybe we can wait for friends to come up for us and the loot. Possible scenario for this : after a battle between two boats, both are sunk (maybe one by cannonballs, the other one by sabotage), and you are alone in the sea with plenty of chests. You will wait here for friends respawning on a new boat, and guiding them from your location if you see them far away. It's impossible to wait like this for now wihtout a way to avoid shark attacks.
