As the Tile say, do I need to have Xbox Live Gold to Play with my friends on PC or do I just need a Xbox account to play?
With Windows 10 you get an xbox account with your microsoft account, you don't need to subscribe to gold.
You can log into the xbox app to change your gamertag. press windows key type xbox
