Disallow PvP in outposts.

  • I've been playing since early Alpha and the community was much better about "playing nice." Now that the game has officially launched, there is a big problem with "Outpost Camping" by 4 man crews in galleons. This needs to be rectified asap or you will lose a huge player base like Ark did. There are way too many trolls in here right now. I love this game, but this is very quickly starting to make me angry and will be leaving the game in the next few weeks if something isn't done. I also don't want to hear, "you must just not be good at PvP.." because we have taken down several galleons with a sloop. Its a problen of being outnumbered when your trying to offload chests. Please fix this Rare.

  • If this was the case everyone would be able to escape after a long fought battle at sea. Just head out to a nearest outpost and laugh at the enemy chasing you. No this game doesn't need safezones. It needs interesting stuff that keeps players from getting bored and camping a dock.

On top of all of the above. There are LOTS of other outpost.

  • @sobe44 UNFORTUNATELY pvp will never be turned off. I got raided at an outpost, thinking it was safe. Then i became wise and camped the m***s till they quit the game in front of me

  • @sobe44 That would get boring as hell, camping an outpost, and I would fall asleep. They have other stuff to do, in quests and stronghold raids, etc. I didn't spend my money and time investing in the game to camp and I'm too busy hunting for treasure. I'm surprised that there are people patient enough simply sit there and do nothing. I thought Rare mentioned a system in place for griefing in this game.

  • If they are camping outposts, get some proof and send it to rare. I often use mixer to stream and you can download the recordings (twitch may allow you to do this as well), and if there is truth to your claim, they should deal with it. Be aware though, some crews will have just turned in their own chests, and may be feeling opportunistic when they see someone carrying a chest to the hoarder

  • Off course this game has leaderboard, and my experience from other new games, there are right away players just want to stay on first places, and they do what ever to stay on top, even cheating game save files! So I think those campers are looking for easy loot and high score on leaderboard, so if want to catch worst trollers, go look for leaderboard top players!

  • @sobe44 Maybe not completely safezone but atleast some kind of NPC that will help protect the order of things. Many times people just waiting for one to come in a crew of people will get you before you even have time to set fot on the outpost to turn in somethiong. HATE IT.

  • Even pirates have a place to call home.. Just look at the HBO series Black Sails. Damn thats what we need.

Would just be cool to see a bounty put on anyone who attacks another player in an outpost, perhaps? That way there would be a incentive to seek revenge, or would see more pirates attacking them in general.

I guess GTA online did it and players would just switch server when you were about to kill them. So I dunno.

  • Blockaiding outposts, old pirate tradition. Works well, have you tried just talking to them and maybe paying them a little? They might let you keep some of the gold.

  • Unfortunately Rare shut this down awhile ago. Freeform PvP is what they want even if it's going to be incredibly detrimental to the majority of the game (the PvE content - PvP is literally just slapped on to throw in some dynamic elements and interrupt the normal gameplay loops).

  • Bounties as crowd control for griefing perhaps as mentioned above may help.

Same thing happened to me and a friend, I put it down to a pirates life and went to a different Outpost. It's part of the risk/reward trying to turn in a bunch of chests.

Surprisingly enough I rarely see other ships. I can go over an hour without seeing anyone, which I could care less about. I guess I am getting all the luck, empty servers and food random crews. I am loving this damn game 👍

  • Camping outposts is fine. You can spot a beached ship or mermaid from a long ways away. Most of the issues that people are having with PvP are that they don’t fully know how to play. A smart and savvy player knows that to avoid losing treasure at an outpost, you should be wary of your surroundings.

  • @verminpup honestly this idea is probably the best, but there are problems, as you mentioned.

If a player with a bounty disconnects, does the bounty carry over to his next session? If so, what about the rest of his crew? Are they aware? Do they become accomplices? Do they throw the criminal player in the brig or risk being hunted? Do bounties expire after a certain time of laying low? Does being offline count?

    Lots of questions..

It say it carries, and it affects the whole crew. Personally I'd just like a new NPC faction that allows you to pay money to place bounty on on other Crew, or that put Bounty themselves when certain offenses are committed (read: Attacking other players in outposts).

The main issue is definitely the server jumping. Even if the bounty carries over, it's a little anti-climatic.

  • This is why you have a spyglass.

    SPYGLASS 101:
You place the smaller side in front of your eye, you look througt it and usually you can see from quite far if there is a mast near the island, and seek for another place if you see a potential threat.

    Problem solved.

A loot isn't yours until you succesfully bring it back to a npc. Maybe you want them to write it on the title of the game ?...

    ...

    Oh wait.

    They did.

  • Well, Go to a different outpost?

  • my crew was paid by a sloop they gave us a stronghold chest so we did not sink them. i love sailing tax

  • Firstly I'm sorry for once again talking about safe zones ECT ECT... But i completely agree that outposts should be safe! Once you leave an outpost let the fight begin! Go nuts kill everyone, trust know one, ECT ECT.... But once you dock at an outpost you should be safe. In fact its even one of the pirate code rules that RARE created that "all disputes are to be settled AT SEA" Not land, sea..... You should be able to get attacked leaving an outpost, entering an outpost, roaming the sea, roaming ANY island, but the second my feet touch outpost land, i should be safe and free to sell my hard earned goods. Much more people would like the game that way......me and a hell of alot of my mates being some of then lol please rare listen to your fans!

  • @sobe44 Real pirates fought their battles, so why shouldn't you?

  • it's really not so difficult, we were bringing in loot earlier twice this evening and were able to spot people camping the outpost (who had scuttled which makes them harder to spot) pretty easily with the spyglass, just don't run in blind and use your noggin.

"all disputes are to be settled AT SEA"

it doesn't take a genius to figure out what they mean is, disputes are to be solved in game and not to be taken outside of it (social media whatever).

  • don't understand where you find all these campers you speak off, have played over 20hours now and haven't seen anyone camp an outpost yet.

  • @drkmasta It's been a real game of chance too. One server I was on we were able to go to outposts and no one was there. A couple of hours ago we had bad luck. Every outpost we went to (3 of them) had people at it. It would just be good for play if they would have an outpost free of PvP (even if was just one in the middle of the map)

  • @kannibalkill how does that help when it became one VS 4 or more

  • I read somewhere that only 6 player ships can be on any one server at any one time. Not sure if this is true. How many outposts are there in the game? Just because you see a ship moored at an outpost, does it really necessarily mean they are "griefers" waiting to get you? Couldn't they simply be a player(s) who are at that outpost with intentions nothing more sinister that wanting to sell treasure they have accumulated?

  • @holle74 Where is leaderboard?

  • They could also place one outpost in the middle that is "safe" and all other outposts give 10 to 20% more for your rewards as a hostile pay bonus. That way you get paid more for the risk and it gives solo and 2 player groups a place to go where they know they're ok

  • @sobe44 I really hope Rare doesn't listen to you.

  • No. PvP is part of the game and the game would not work without it. Outpost should not be safe, it would really suck.

Why are modern gamers such fragile beings. Breaking and shattering when things are too tough. You will not get all your stuff stolen all the time, every time you play. But it will happen and that's how the game works.

It's not that serious to lose a chest in this game. Just play it safe and go back to outposts often.

This game is really casual and PvP is just fun and games. You fight over chests and so what. That gold is just virtual and you will not starve in the real world. If you do not enjoy PvP, play something else, because it's absolutely central to this game.

Scout out outposts and go elsewhere if someone is there.

  • Outpost camping is a thing i hate like no other activity ingame. Solo player or crews who do that are extremly dishonourable people.
But i don't like the idea of safezones. We need no zones where players can escape to f**k off the hard work of chasing your enemies.

It should be known that campers are f*****s and that the community doesnt accept such campings. If they do so i would like to see crews of two or more ships gathering their forces to stop them together!
It would be awesome to see such teamplay.

    Greetings Captain Schlenz.

  • You should only fall victim to camping once, anymore than that and that is on you. There will always be a mermaid in the water, look for it, never blindly assume an outpost is safe. Furthermore, never dock with ships close by unless you know you can unload before they get to you. Ship chasing you? Dont dock. All alone or duo? sail around and scout the island first, even in a galleon you should pay close attention but least you have numbers. You have a looking glass, use it, its your best scouting friend.

From the campers perspective it must be incredibly boring. Ships dont show up every couple of minutes, theyll be lucky to see 1 in 30 minutes because theyre limiting themselves to that outpost whilst theres plenty more never far away for the ships to choose. If they want to sit there waiting then let them, thats there boring time they can have.

That said I find some situations that fall under camping occur when you yourself have just unloaded and you see a ship headed your way. If you can see their ship, they should likely be able to see yours unless you have very luckily hidden it from view behind the rocks at which point, I reiterate, its on you to check if its safe first, not for Rare to provide safe zones that honestly will destroy the game.

  • @padd i Hope they do because its a big playerbase that doesnt want to be ganked by a bunch of Ahes every time you want to turn in something.
