The game is worth about 10 dollars...we need to hold developers to the fire for pushing out content lacking games like this
Totally agreeing the latter part.
What comes to the product and services, I'd say 4/10 for the content, 5/10 for the job and 3/10 for the servers. Little experience how their customer service works so sadly I have to say 1/10, game isn't polished enough from bugs and exploits so 1/10 and the state of marketing was kinda like 3/10. Not like they don't have their expenses covered so at least that is in check. It would be another matter if the dev team had no income to back everything up with. Premium currency should be the in-game gold and this could cost around 1-2 bucks; one size only. No other microtransactions coz the items would only compete with basic content which they should never do.
Verdict: 17/60 bucks for the game as service so far. Occasional microtransaction per client in a month could be around 2 to 3 bucks depending on luck in the future.
I disagree, my overall review of the product would be:
7/10 for the content, as this is a game of service, so it will never be a full game, just one that is evolving.
Service or not, content launched is the full game. The content is then either extended or the mold is filled. There's a reason why companies try to sell their products to younger and younger customers. Less delivered than Hello Games went with in their No Man's Sky, but not much. Very close position I'd say. I like Sea of Thieves more due theme and actual navigation of ships.
Well yeah, No Man's Sky has the spaceship, but at least Sea of Thieves has two ships.
9/10 for the job. Rare have done a tremendous job on this game and always had the policy to show not tell. What we see is what we have got.
What we saw was definitely what we got. Hence no. Not even close. Nice concept though, deep design and the dedication is admirable. I like the ocean. Longer development would have made a clear difference. Rule of thumb: No game should be published before it works at least as a board game. This one was close.
9/10 for the servers. I've only ever had the odd disconnect and/or beard error.
Mine was a very careful evaluation. However, I don't buy that the statistics wasn't within the awareness of both Rare and Microsoft. If they honestly said they didn't know how many players would jump in, I would seriously question the integrity of their information logistics structure.
8/10 for customer service. Have you had cause to use customer services? Have you tried to see how it works before giving it a 1/10?
I haven't. No need. Therefore I at least gave 1 out of 10. I believe each part at least deserves 1 for their existence alone if nothing more. This is something that governs another Ace in a 3Ace title. This one is contributed afterwards so no game is a 3Ace title at launch.
8/10 for polish. The bugs have been fixed throughout the testing period and before the game moved forward, as such SoT had very few bugs at launch. If you have found a bug/bugs then please send in a Support ticket so it can be looked into.
I await bug and exploit free products nowadays. If I find any of these to be present, game never gets a full score here. This drops one Ace from the 3Ace title immediately. Depends from the bugs present how much more into the score is given.
9/10 They have been marketing this game with various vids and clips for over a year now.
At least it was a bit better than when EA marketed their SW Battlefront 2. My main issue here is that I would have appreciated to know that the team didn't develop the game in favour of taking advantage of our younglings when content was defined.
So far.... a pretty good game :D
Yes. It is a nice little game. Fresh air in the making. Big risk though. Huge risk. Not the concept. Concept is solid. Pace and delivery is what worries me.
