@gunjah104 said in I'm Done. Enough is enough. Honest review.:
Played this game 2-3 days (20h) and already i have seen and done everything. Here is my thought about this game.
Yep.
Yep.
- Only few NPC enemy types. (No NPC merchant ships?! What?! Isn't this suppose to be Pirate game?)
This is where Rare copped out hard. They claimed that they don't want other ships (no matter how distinguishable they could be) on the sea because they wanted every ship sighting to feel meaningful between players or whatever. That's not how it works whatsoever in the current game because people are inclined to avoid other ships or else chase after them to sink them. . . Making merchant ships, possibly even naval convoys a thing would be awesome.
Heck, take from AC4 Black Flag and add in Legendary Ships that are like raid bosses out in the four corners of the map. Could also have skeleton ships that sail at night and whatnot... This was just such a letdown and it's part of why the game world feels so empty. Give us some flippin ships to plunder without them being players, Rare. There's no excuse beyond cheap cop outs or technical limitations (which tbh shows with the skeleton AI..).
Outside of raising arbitrary numbers to get cosmetics of course. But yeah, they could have had a PvE progression system that doesn't have any impact in PvP. Not sure what the excuse is outside of not having the time/desire to do it.
- PvP griefing is a big thing in this game (Outpost aren't safe zones which gives impression that developer have no idea what happens in PVE/PVP game).
Yeah this is something that could really damage the longevity/health of the game. PvP gets free reign right now, and PvErs serve as the sheep that fatten themselves up by doing other parts of the game that isn't PvP. To me it wreaks of hubris/naivety/ignorance of gaming history to think something different would happen. You don't bring open PvP into a PvE game with 0 consequences and expect it not to streamroll over the rest of the game.
- With a group you can complete everything this game has to offer in 3 hours.
Yeah pretty much, outside of the ambiguous Pirate Legend content that will likely be a letdown when someone reaches it next week.
- Very lazy PC port and careless attitude toward PC players.
Don't agree with this really. PC version feels fine, but definitely lacking in some areas. Chalk it up more to the fact that Microsoft is forcing all of their games to be crossplatform imo. PC and Xbox players share the same sessions so the game has to be fair to Xbox players playing with/against PC players. The Xbox app for PC feels like a mess though. The Windows spam notifications don't help, and the lack of push to talk in group voice chat feels so incredibly stupid not to have, as if they weren't thinking about PC players at all when designing the app. I don't get why in-game voice chat has push to talk and yet the group chat doesn't. :/ And people will always use Xbox Live group chat over in-game chat because in-game chat is proximity based.
- They had 5 stress testing / alphas / betas / And full release is almost identical. JEEZ!
Is that really a surprise? Game was 3 months from launch when they did closed beta. Nothing significant was going to be added/changed.
- 69€ ($86) Wait what? From this? This should be Free to Play in this state. The content to price tag ratio is insanely off on this one. Even worse than No Man Sky.
Well it's $60 for us Americans, but that sucks if it's higher priced elsewhere in equivalent costs. I don't think this should've been F2P but it could've been priced lower and marked Early Access. $40 USD would have been a fair price IMO, given the pedigree of the developer and the insane levels of polish that went into what does exist in the game.
It has beautiful water and environment. Art style is funny and spot on. Sailing mechanics are solid, but melee combat is clunky and downright akward. All the items you can buy with in-game currency are cosmetic only. WHY? In the long run there no reason to play this game. You grind same type of quests over and over to earn gold and only thing you can do with it is to buy cosmetic items. Who designed this great idea? Game is backed by Microsoft, so it's hard to believe that they lack money to do this right. Shame on you Rare and Microsoft!
Combat being clunky is because they had to be fair to Xbox players vs PC players. Agreed that the environment is stunning, and yeah cosmetics-only is going to kill this game's longevity if they don't start releasing more of everything in terms of stuff to do. The grind exists because they wanted to pad the lack of content and drag it out so most folks wouldn't hit the 'endgame' until a month or three in when they presumably get some new stuff out.
If this is Microsoft's answer to the lack of exclusives they have to offer, i really don't know what to say, more than PS4 owners are in much better place with: Last of us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, Spider Man, Detroit: Become Human, Days Gone... (i probably forgot some titles) full games with a lot of content and fully story driven game play. And these are likely coming in 2018.
Personally looking forward to the new Crackdown and State of Decay 2, but yeah, this feels like it was rushed to try and get a big exclusive out for the spring season/quarter and to better validate/justify the Xbox Game Pass.
PS. Community management is lazy and won't answer questions and are protective towards "founders" "Pioneers" "Insiders". Great job! Most toxic and introverted community i have been involved in my 30 years of computer gaming.
Well I mean hopefully I changed your mind on that somewhat. I can still be critical of the game even if I intentionally bought into it knowing full well that I didn't have high expectations for the content end of it. I wanted to support it, and I still enjoy it, but I want to see it be more than what it currently is.
That said yes there has been some toxicity going about, especially in regards to PvP. That's just the nature of the beast I'm afraid.
Ultimately this game could be amazing and has a great foundation, but this rushed launch mixed with a lot of Rare's excuses for not doing certain things feels like it could damage this game's longterm potential. Guess it's just a 'wait and see' thing right now while of course continuing to give feedback and suggestions for how to better improve the state of things.
