Hey fellow Pirates, is this a PvP or PvE game?

  • Just curious because I can’t find any articles or statements saying anything about it. I’d like to purchase the game but I keep reading the comments and I don’t really want to play a beautiful game like this because of players just griefing others for their own enjoyment.
I can see there’s already a bunch of problems with the game already and add in annoying people, and it just doesn’t seem like this is going to be a fun game, more like a fish on his first day coming out of processing.

So, I’m just curious if this is an endless sea battle death match game cuz if it is I’ll go somewhere else, I wouldn’t want to complain and ruin harassers fun. Oh, and if there’s a statement from Rare about this could some please be kind enough to link it?

  • Pvp and PVE with raids and bounty quests but I'd proabally say more pvp since they are always around. It's not a deathmatch at all mate there is not deathmatchs as such its a open world adventure sandbox where you get progess in skill of the game and get rich and also aim for rep 50 in all 3 quest chains that will grant you pirate legend.

  • I'm personally playing it as more of a PvE game and rarely come across other ships, if I do though, I'll try and sneak on, get myself up in their crow's nest and playing shanties! Done it on three different people so far and have been caught once :P

  • @samoclarkey I guess I’ll be steering clear of this game. Do you get a lot of reward from quests, doesn’t seem worth it to spend 2 hours on a quest for little reward if all I did was try to outrun or defend myself from others?

  • Porque no los dos?

  • @henchman-4 youll never spend 2 hours on a quest. This is a pvp/pve game, you have to do bounties/ raids to advance. There is a risk and reward system, carrying many chests wanting to squeeze in another voyage or cashing them in immediately. What ever your playing style is just know there might be a galleon or sloop searching the seas for a vessel to board. Its a pirate game, thats what pirates did.

Watch gameplay on it, do some research, and watch a live stream on twitch. Get a feel for it and see for your self. Everyone plays differently so asking for input on a forum that is clearly split on the two(pve/pvp).Make the judgement your self.

  • I would say it was MEANT to be a PvE game with the option to PvP, but, "Because you can..." it seems to be a PvP game with PvE elements.

  • @runninghalfling no mas estoy preguntando, no estoy diciendo nada mas.

  • @henchman-4 Not like that at all if your just questing you rarley get attacked if you do usually a noob we haven't sank in 60+ hours. Once you getting skilled you can avoid the situation that could occur if you raid however ships are much more of a threat.

  • @adrawda "Guys where is that music coming from?" "No idea captain, but lets keep going!"

  • @call-blocked could watch gameplay or I can ask here and get a better idea through people’s opinions. So we get to do pirate stuff? Lol, I see that response a lot. Lol, if it’s a pirate game we should be able to do a whole hell of a lot more than just sink a ship. Not being a d**k to you, just saying, besos

  • @call-blocked also, I think you kinda went over my original question. And, yes, in the end I will make my own judgement, I’m researching here👌🏼

  • PvPvE, PvP is as relevant a factor in this game as the PvE, one needs the other. Without PvP the PvE elements would be stale, too easy, and become boring too quick. The added strategy to stealing other peoples loot, and defending yours is what makes this game truly interesting and actually puts you in a "pirates" shoes. Without PvE, PvP would have no merit besides out skilling your opponents and doing it over again, which again would get stale quickly - the added notion that they may have a ton of loot is what makes PvP even more exciting EVERYTIME.

  • @henchman-4 sure, ask someone if they like steak. A normal person says they love it, a vegetarian says they hate it. Youll never know until you try it!

That being said your asking people who have had good/bad encounters here. So your opinions will be biased. Watching a stream will show you exactly what content is out and if you truly like it.

    Id say its both.

Edit: A little customization for free could have been good, so that those that like pvp can see on the ship "that this was the one we attacked last time, perhaps we should let him/her/them go for this time".

  • I wish I hadn't bought the game and would have wait until IF they release some kind of PvE only option because right now the game is a beautiful, lore-rich, running away from everyone else in the server "pirate" (fantasy psychopath pirate) simulator. Every single person I've encountered shoot me on sight even if I had nothing on my ship, I was already sinking and/or I was playing music to them.

The missions are a lot of fun, sailing should be very relaxing, solving riddles and digging chests is awesome. But every second of the game you have to spend it stressed out checking if another ship is coming your direction to take away in an instant your hour of gameplay, so I only play (if I even do because I'm getting really tired of it) the game for short missions and then leave because the constant threat of "endless sea battle deathmatch game" ruins all the fun.

  • @call-blocked thanks, but I’ll make my own choice, you’re veering the topic, bye bye

  • @edward-doe so true 😢

  • @samoclarkey oh, I know it’s a open world game, just being descriptive, 😁

  • So, from what I’ve gathered, it’s something like the Dark Zone in the Division, if anyone has played that game.

  • @i-keiner Der letzte scheiß, 99.9% nur stress mit den anderen Spielern.
Spiel deinstalliert und wieder eine Enttäuschung mehr in der Reihe der early Access Games. Fertig ist das noch laaaaange nicht.
    Ideen top, Umsetzung Flop

  • @i-keiner ok

  • From the very beginning, we've been determined to make Sea of Thieves a truly welcoming world in which players of any creed, culture, age, skill level and circumstance can voyage without fear of friction or frustration. With that in mind, we've laid out a set of guidelines that we hope will help to keep the seas free of strife and grievance (beyond that stirred up in the course of a pirate's everyday activities).

The sacred bond between crewmates should never be broken, but even when waging war across the decks of rival raiders, all crews should ultimately hold one another in respect. So here for you to read, reflect upon and remember is the Sea of Thieves Pirate Code!....... I shall play, I like their intentions
