New Job "Privateers"

  • So I got this idea while spending my time on another post trying to figure out a fix for players coming back after their ship being sunken and it might be a fix to the problem but also just a cool new job.

If you don't know what privateers is then let me clue you in, Privateers are pirates hyred by the british navy to sink other pirates ships, most of the time they would even get to keep the loot of the sunken ships in exchange for their loyalty to the british navy.

Now this is probably not a fully accurate explaination of what a privateer is but you'll probably get the point of why this would be a cool job.

The question that is left for this idea is which ships will the privateers try to sink and why? the idea that I have so far is that crews with lots of kills or mabye known for killing will get a bounty set on the and the privateers would set out to sink that ship and claim the bounty.

If you have any ideas about which ships the privateers will sink, why? or maybe just about the privateers in general let me know, and please stick to the subject ;)

  • Doesn't sound like a "job" like the other trading companies, more just a feature anyone who encounters enemy ships with large kill streaks can take advantage of. Bountys have been discussed before, and I think it's likely it'll be added at some point

  • @seasicksig I do think that bounties would make the game a bit better but also the Privateer idea doesn't have to be around doing bounties it could also be used in another way.

  • @wheed-bear This sort of seems cool jobish. Though I thought EVERYONE was a pirate so attacking first is nature.
After fighting a galleon for 30 min(sunk them twice, plus another random, the random didn't come back) we agreed to take the skull together(we ran out of resources). So ofcourse we had a third galleon show up and try to rob the two of us.... Ended up a fun fight though I lost the stronghold skull.
Now with a bounty, my crew probably would not work with these guys.
I know the issue is with people respawning so close to being sunk. Sure the most complained about is the skull forts. They are juicy and I'm sure EVERYONE can see the skull on the server.
YES I hate people spawning so close but when would a bounty start?

  • The real issue is..., do you want alot of people to play this game, or just a few. I absolutely love this game, but i also was raised with a moral compass and good parents who taught me right from wrong, i bring the same morality to the characters i play in my games. I shouldn't be excluded from enjoying the game just cause the game mechanics allow immoral behavior. That being said, that doesnt mean im against it. But nothin will make me take back a game faster than to pour hours into it only to have that labor ruined by people who exploit a game mechanic to the point that it no longer is fun and feels more like a waste of time. If Rare just wants a bunch of servers full of ships shooting at each other thats their choice. But if they want gamers like me who enjoy the WHOLE game, you know the missions, the islands, all that stuff developers spent hundereds of hours on making, and not just the killing and looting others..., then game makers need to get a handle on the duechebag factor.

  • @stonedmonkey1x +1 well said, I agree. I've been trying to befriend people I meet so there's more people to play with when close friends aren't around. Have already met a few decent people to game with, all happen to be console players.

  • @stonedmonkey1x I do agree with what you are trying to say, the amount of PVP on Sea Of Thieves is increasing but I do think a bounty system would help, It would maybe be used as a weapon against those douchbags.

  • @wheed-bear hopefully it would at least lower the amount of people who would simply just roam around ruining the day for others.

  • @stonedmonkey1x Excacly, and it would bring a cool new "job" to the game

  • @zersin1 Yes everyone is pirates and that's why I toke up a suggestion with a bounty system that limits them to what ships they need to sink, We could replace the british navy with the merchant alliance and say that they want specific pirate ships destroyed because they are bringing chaos to the sea or something like that.

  • The crew on a Server that is "dominating" everyone in PVP getting a bounty wont really help sinking them when they are more skilled and keep sinking the incoming "Privateers"

  • @dennis-box Trust me, you can't dominate the sea forever, but thanks for the tip

  • @wheed-bear Depends on the players that have been set on the Server. Even if you run out of supplys eventually, you just escape and send your crew to restock on islands or barrels in the water. I think it will be hard to sink a very well skilled crew that is comminicating properly and maybe premade. The ship that is chasing someone is generally at a disadvantage because you can board it or use gunpowder (we call it the Loot Booster 4000) to get rid of them while they can as the aggressor only defend

  • @wheed-bear I thought I would be able to and finally suffered a defeat earlier last night. Since I got the game on release friends and I were 'unsinkable' until we realized two big ships were working together to 'dominate the seas'. We were out numbered out skilled and sad pirates lol

  • @dennis-box sagte in New Job "Privateers":

The crew on a Server that is "dominating" everyone in PVP getting a bounty wont really help sinking them when they are more skilled and keep sinking the incoming "Privateers"

And in my opinion it would still help. Because the ship that has the bounty on it and the people hunting it would both be engaged in the combat and the "pve" Players could get a little rest.

When the big Bad Boys are in a constant fight. They wont have the time to chase down other ships.

  • @dark-major-112 I totally agree
Since the PvP crew is the one that is hunted they get what they want, the PvP part. I just think that the winning crew in a PvP battle regardless of bounties should get at least some reward

  • @dark-major-112 Excacly and it would also be a dope job xD

There could be a simple solution. If u sink a ship there could be some wood or sth Alike been drifting around. That u can sell with a small profit at the outpost.

  • @dennis-box but thats the point. The game makes it too easy to be a "pirate" im all for these players proving their skills trying to fend off attackers and if they succeed more power to them, hell even make it a notorious achievement. But games need to quite making bad behavior so easy that it drives off other players. Again if you just wanna play on servers with nothing but pirating trolls sinking your ships at every turn keep driving them off with your "superior game skils".
