Ship Sinking - REWARDS!

  • Just a few ideas about ship sinking.

    Reputation

Once an opposing ship has been sunk, not only should the spawn distance be greatly increased (many people have touched on this in other posts) But you should get some kind of reputation increase/tally , which gives more unlock able items once you reach 10, 50, 100 opposing ships sunk. this would let us see more clearly which crews are more deadly from a distance and increase the benefit from pirate hunting.
Maybe the crew with the highest tally per server, gets a bounty put on their head for the other crews to hunt down.

    Items Dropped

One issue with ship spawning is that people seem to just respawn their ship to get more resources. The amount of resources per ship should be greatly decreased.
    ALSO.
When you sink an opposing ship, all the barrels on their ship with bananas, cannonballs and boards should float to the surface just like chests do so you can re-stock your ship from their barrels.

Implementing these 2 things will mean that even if you sink an opposing ship and they have no treasure on board you still get 2 potential other benefits (other than the fun of sinking them)

Just a thought, let me know what you all think.

  • I like the Idea of gaining reputation for sinking other ships but with the high amount of complaints about PVP in the forum I don't see it to happen because it would encourage people to fight each other. That would discourage people who are trying to have a PVE experience in a PVP game. Of course its silly but these players are part of the player base.

  • @rokuavalanche Items dropped it is very good idea, i am sure devs will take a look over it. There is no sense to kill one ship, again and again...

  • PvP is a reward on itself...if ANY ingame rewarded was awarded you'd have hell on the seas with the "we want pve servers crowd" having a reason to cry.

  • Perhaps if you sink a more dangerous ship you gain more rep from it?

Also, while I agree that a sunk ship should have reduced supplies, perhaps make them lose a little for the first sink, then more missing for the second, etc until they have nothing left after the 4th or 5th time sunk?

  • @derklotz2000 What if when you got sunk, you lost one of your reputation markers. This may encourage the PvP players to be more selective rather than just sailing around shooting everyone.

  • I like the Idea of floating barrels with supplies,
but sinking ships shouldnt be rewarded further than with the items.

There are so many crews that just hunt players down, even if they havent got anything.
Such behavior shouldnt be rewarded. If the ship is full of loot, fine, try to sink it.
But not if the crew just spawned freshly.

  • getting a new ship should be paid in gold - that way we would prevent a sloop to just attack 7-8 times in a row. Would make it to costly for the crew.

    /Pie

  • @Kustho @cptncuttlefish Yeah, currently they can't do anything to buff/reward the PVP crowd until the initial onslaught of PVE'rs come to terms with the game they purchased. I'm fine with them working on fixing the respawn problems, and adding more variety for the PVE'rs until they stop wailing about PVE servers.

  • If they were to add a bounty hunter focused trade faction sinking ships for reputation would make sense.

While it would be reasonable to have the barrels of a ship re surface along with any treasure that was on board.

Tough i think you often will end up overstocked in supplies whenever you pass an island or barge the ship directly so i think by all means that it doesn't need to change, reducing the base supply will make it harder for casual player base to be set early for their daily adventures so i would say that those variables don't need anything changed.

otherwise its a nice idea for a future trade faction mechanic if and when the current 3 are being rotated out of the game for a while.

  • @dustofthedeath @AncientTheron @Zokraitz @CptnCuttlefish I understand what you're saying, the last thing I want is to increase the amount of people just looking to attach you and ruin your fun by spawning and attacking over and over again.

    HOWEVER....

I feel that the game isn't actually rewarding people for being 'Pirate Legends' its just rewarding people the being 'Determined Pirates who put in lots of hours of grinding'

A fighting rep that goes up and down based on wether your ship gets sunk might go some way to separate out the really good crews. And allow them to have the skull and cross bones flag above their ship once they reach a certain rank.

A bounty feature might encourage people to not attack weaker vessels as the reward is less great.

  • I don't mind the reputation and achievements idea from sinking ships but other than the loot people have collected you should not be rewarded in any other way that you can gain gold/resources from going around sinking other players ships is not the point of the game.

The that's what pirates do excuse is ball..... Pirates would target ships that most likely would have goods/loot on like merchant/civilian ships they had a pirate code and would rarely attack each other.

But back on topic there also needs to be a penalty added to PVP to make it more of risk to engage in pvp others and myself have suggested a flag/timer system that shows hostile pirates on the map for 10mins and slap a reward on your head if your ship gets sunk this way other hostile pirates will target you for that reward this adds risk to PVP and encourages people to actually think is it worth killing that sloop?

  • @pilks4k I completely agree that there should be much much more risk for engaging in PVP.

I do think that getting your ship sunk should have much bigger consequences than just "it doesn't matter, lets just respawn it and go again" losing your ship/getting it sunk should be the worst thing.

Also once someone boards your ship you should spawn back on it. This way people could actually steal ships which would be fun. Instead of stealing all the chests off they ship, just steal the ship instead.

yeah definitely. i like the idea of cannonballs, planks, and bananna barrels floating to resupply the victor, but any more than that and things would turn for the worst.

  • But the barrels of supplies are there or not? Cannot be a coincidence on my side that they just showed up around the are we sunk the ship.

About everything else. I agree on the part that its to easy to get into a fight after your ship sunk. But the most things I read seem to come from players who do not want PVP at all. All of your proposals have the same goal and that is to discourage people from engaging in PVP and this is not the right approach. The right approach is to fix the problem that people are to quick back into the same fight they just lost.
I personally would love to see a bounty system and rewards for sinking ships.

  • I see this could be interesting, just worried that this game is already (in my experience) either attacked on sight or avoid everyone all the time. I have not had 1 friendly interaction with another ship since release day. rewarding PvP more at the moment I think may just drive people away from the game?

That being said once the playerbase kind of levels itself out and its actually a question of "friend or foe?" when I spot an enemy ship I would not be totally against this.

  • I like the idea of the reputation for a faction, but that should be it. At the moment there is a low risk high reward for people just attacking anybody on sight, so if anything, there should be a draw back, like the bounty system many people have proposed, you sink a bunch of solo sloops for the rep and possible treasure, now you have a 6000 gold bounty on you and some galleon with a pro bounty hunting crew comes and steam rolls you to take your bounty that they saw in the tavern.

The way it is now PvP is discouraged so don't shed a tear for the PvEers they are not the victims here

  • @TheGr8Artiste I don't. Their tears are the wind in my sails.

I love the PVP don't get me wrong. Me and my mates were working on a fort yesterday when a sloop started to attack over and over. This little fight escalated in to war. In the end we were in a a battle with two galleons. After an hour all supplies ran out and there was nothing left to salvage from the fort so we started stealing wood and cannonballs from the other ships while fighting. At one point all three galleons crashed into each other and lowering each others anchors what kept us entangled and created a big surface for Melee combat. The whole fight for the fort took 2 hours and would have probably lasted longer if we hadn't decided to retreat after the last victory over both ships because it was 2 am and we all had to work the next day.

It was an amazing experience/battle so like to see people being encouraged to engage in PVP but I also like to see people bein discouraged to just waste their ships over and over until the enemies run out of resources.

We had a great time during this battle but we never were able to finish the fort so we got nothing from and if you just need to retreat because you have no time left the countless(they were not countless we sank 14 ships during this battle) victories taste sour.
