It just has to go.
If you really want to, you can DISABLE it by DEFAULT and give an option to turn it on manually. Censoring chats is the must stupid thing you can do.
You can't even say things like "w*f" in the ingame chat....
Chat censorship
@b3dr0ck1999 not swearing is easier..
People of all ages play the game. They shouldn't be subjected to swearing.
@triheadedmonkey The filter is censoring literally everything. In Germany you are allowed to play this game with 12 or more years. People aren't in kindergarten anymore in this age, at least not in germany.
And you can still swear in the voice chat if it really would be your goal to reach children with swearing, which no one tries I think.Plus its a freaking pirate game w*f... swearing forbidden... sure lol
Makes sense
kek@a-darn-zombie just because you don't, doesn't mean everybody doesn't, and the first is abbreviated swearing.
@b3dr0ck1999 being a pirate game makes no difference whatsoever. to maintain the rating the game has, I imagine that profanity needs to be filtered.
Voice chat can be muted, so no problem there.
So if we are having an conversation about religion in the game and I am saying something like "I am jewish, my father as well, but my mother isn't" it will get censored as well?
Wow, great, lets put a swearword-stamp on the word "jew"! Common everybody, isn't that a great idea?
For real, I think that this is really discriminatory for jewish people. I think the term for that is Anti-Semitism.

Are you serious? That's what I asked for. At least giving us the choice of toggling it on or off ourselfs.

Oh please.
How is "jew" a swearword or somehow worth to be censored. I am not a native speaker so I am not sure if "jew" is a colloquial term, but as far as I am concerned it's the normal,
factual term for someone who is jewish. But I'm always ready to learn, if that isn't right. As I said I am not a native speaker, idk.@b3dr0ck1999 you mentioned chat censorship, I took that to mean typing in game (which is filtered for good reason) as there wouldn't be a way to filter all voice communications in real time.
that is why there is an option to mute voice chat, as there is no other feasible way.
if you want to swear with your own crew, use a third party app/program.
Like I said, the rating likely dictates that profanity be filtered, so its not going away

Sorry but that is ridiculous. Of course it may be called pro-active to completely sensor that word, but you're extremely exaggerating. In my 20 years of online gaming experience, I've only read the word "jew" three times or so, and it was always meant as an offense as in "you jew" (which I've always reported). So ...
Better not let those awkward and aggravating moments happen in the first place, so I say it's good to censor profanity and common hate/offense-phrases and words. And besides: politics and religion shouldn't have a place in this game anyway. It's a pirate fantasy.

How else will they know that they've [mod edited] up?
@b3dr0ck1999 because there is 0 reason to swear in the first place, let alone in a game that has kids playing.
If you filter for everyone, then no one swears. If they somehow find a way to say something offensive/vulgar that bypasses the filters intentionally then it means they have done it on purpose in an effort to violate the ToS. Those are the people that would need to face repercussions as it would not have been accidental.
@cyphronite
I still don't get how you are supposed to use "jew" as an insult. It's like calling someone a "human" or a "man" or a "woman" or something like that. It just doesn't makes sense at all.@triheadedmonkey said in Chat censorship:
@a-darn-zombie interested to know which part you believe to be wrong?
Its not that I find any of it to be wrong. I find it to be idiotic to think children cant handle an abbreviation that anyone with a cell phone has used at some point or another. In this day and age were people are teaching children its okay to choose their own gender, abbreviations that contain curse words are probably not high on parents worry list.
@triheadedmonkey said in Chat censorship:
@a-darn-zombie mobile phone conversations are not governed by a ratings board.
Ya well nowhere in the world have I been called the N word more by 8 year olds then on xbox. sorry you are so sensitive.
@schwammlgott some kids swear a lot. not all, but again to maintain the rating the game has, profanity would need to be filtered as much as possible.
I swear more than most people I have met, but am able to not type it.
typing takes conscious effort and swearing is completely avoidable.
@a-darn-zombie @triheadedmonkey
Especially if words like [mod edit] are in it... How is that swearing. Something funny happens ingame, everybody is laughing, I am typing [mod edit] and it gets censored because the [mod edit] stands for [mod edit] or what? Its just a common abbreviation used all over the internet, it can't even been used to insult someone, and it still gets censored.
Sorry if I am annoying you right now, but i really don't get that.
@a-darn-zombie in this game? mute voice chat....block the users.
I'm not even close to sensitive, merely trying to explain rules.
@b3dr0ck1999 it can and often is used completely out of context as an insult, along with many other words.
@b3dr0ck1999 sagte in Chat censorship:
As I still do not understand, in what way "jew" is or can be used as a swearword.
How often do you want to write about that and ignore the fact that it IS used as an insult? By your logic, racism (and religious hatespeech respectively) wouldn't exist, because we're all biomass.
@b3dr0ck1999 most likely "jew" is censored because it is often used as an insult. besides...why would you be chatting about your "jewish father" in game?
@BlackguardBeard
I just don't like the idea that conversations in a not insulting context are affected by a filter that is just blocking everything in advance. In general. That was just an example.
