Why can't they see the infinite loop they have created?
Both of the developer update videos list the same items of concern.
I am speaking as a random player on PC. If you have a set group of friends that you play with you probably won't experience this. Of course Rare would have had everything set by IT experts so it was most likely overlooked by the actual dev crew. I can understand that.
Because the game isn't 100% mic friendly, most times we need to start a party chat on the Xbox app to invite all crew members so we can all hear each other. Problem solved.
However, not everyone knows to do this as a bunch of randoms spawning together for the first time at an outpost and we end up asking "can anyone can hear me?" repeatedly until we get a response.
Due to no reply I / we "exit out of game" (Not to desktop though) however this action starts you from the beginning again as if you are launching it for the first time of that gaming session. Gawd only knows why they've done it that way.
This puts added strain on their servers going through everything from scratch again. Checking fake coins, rosters, ledgers, blah, blah, blah, etc.
Even in their own updates they say "stay in the game", so why does leaving a crew kick you back to square one?
So, in reality, when they say "we're getting 5,000 people logging in per minute" that might not be entirely true. It may very well be 5,000 log-in attempts made by 2,500 people (or even less) skipping from server to server trying to find a communication compatible crew, and that would have the same effect as 5,000 unique individuals.
The current menu configuration is only adding to the server stress and keeping the Rare employees chasing their own tails.
I just urge you to think about it. If I have to take six attempts each morning then another five or six attempts each evening to find mic compatible players it has to add to the server stress which in turn adds to the stress levels of all employees trying to keep up with the demands.
I'm not the only one doing this, I have discussed it a lot with other randoms who do the same thing, looking for a compatible crew.
If the mic issues can't be resolved then the menu configuration needs addressing.
In a perfect world, resolving both would be ideal but until then the only way they're going to get their heads above water and keep it there is when the numbers drop off due to players' frustration (i.e. quitting the game for good) which isn't good for any of us.
Personally I love the game but I can see the infinite loop that menu causes and the snowball effect of incompatible communications in a game that absolutely depends on verbal communication. Sure it has text chat, but you don't have time to type in an emergency when **it hits the fan.
Fair winds and happy sailing to all. :)
