Just wanted to note down some suggestions for pirate curses and how they might work:
- Pick up a voyage from the Souls vendor, which has a chance at cursing you or your crew, or even the ship. The voyage leads you to a few islands where you have to gather items, or return items to remove the curse. If you successfully complete it, you get a higher reputation reward and a small chance at a cursed artifact which leads to a new weapon or clothing item.
- "The Curse of Revealing" - Your ship has a large laughing skull cloud above it, similar to the skull fort, marking you to other players on your map. Killing you rewards them with curse removing reputation items, if they successfully sink your ship while you are cursed.
- "The Curse of Paranoia" - You see ships all around, all the time, and they appear at random in your line of vision. Could be illusions, could be real players, but you won't know until they make physical contact with your ship. Curse removed when cured.
- "The Curse of Cursing" - Your pirate cannot stop cursing, and speaking in the cursed languages. Your ingame chat is garbled, and your voice is masked with a demonic voice, disallowing any ingame communication.
- "The Curse of Reverse" - All ship controls are backwards, and wind blows in the wrong direction to what is shown.
- "The Curse of Time" - Your crew begin to age, and if they expire, they turn to dust. Collecting de-curse artifacts slows the timer.
- "The Curse of Clumsy" - You and your crew drop chests constantly, and trip over, and can even fall overboard.
- "The Curse of Cartostrophy" - Your ships map is filled with uncharted islands, and all existing islands are renamed or unable to be read correctly.
- "The Curse of the Collective" - Skeletons can spawn on your ship, and will swim towards you when you pass islands. You will constantly have them walking in your direction, shooting and attacking with swords.
- "The Curse of the Verse" - Your characters sing continually, and sway about in time with the music. You have to move your character to the beat of the music or you take damage.
- "The Curse of the Crazy" - One of your crew randomly afflicts with the c*****s, causing them to smash holes in the ship, shoot their gun with friendly fire on, swing their sword, and throw loot overboard.
The mechanics of curse quests can as follows:
- Brew a potion to remove the curse - Travel to specific islands, gather plants, animals and materials to decurse your crew
- Return a cursed artifact to it's original location before time runs out and remove the curse. The quest can spawn the item in your ship, or on the vendor for return.
- Perform a series of movements at a set location to ward off the curse
- Sacrifice a specific item to the curse to remove it (like find a Castaway Chest and empty it)
