Remove Blunderbuss

  • It's all people use and ruins combat. I want sword fights not bouncehouse shotgun fights... Be more pirate! Not more Elmer Fudd!

    Edit since no one reads the discussion that already took place I would like to add a few things. The reason for this post is to promote more realist pirate fights. Fights that include a much better balance of weapons. As it is now just about all my encounters end with a blunderbuss and a lot of jumping around. It's silly.. we are supposed to be more pirate! Yet once we board another persons ship it feels like a pumpaction shotgun fight in fortnite. Before you say.."Get Good bruh" or "Just jump around yourself" ask yourself.. is this typeof combat fitting for a pirate game? Do you feel like a swashbuckling pirate? I certainly don't think so. There has been some really good suggestions on here so far so please take the time to read some of them before you post.

  • @my-dirty-muffin I think removing entirely is extreme. But I would be fore removing potential for one shot. I mean, they were used in real life, but ultimately as a damage as many people as possible tactic rather than a run after an individual with a shotgun tactic.

  • I'll repeat my previous idea. If we get more guns, just give us a third weapon slot and make the heavier weapons (including blunderbuss) take up two slots at once.

  • Cant get rid of it.

    Maybe slow it down like most heavies in games.. make the reload time double of the pistol time and shorten its range. Damage stays same close range but after a certain distance it loses most of its power.

    I also like the 2 slot idea for the b-buss.

    Id also like to propose 2 smaller pistols, you get 2 quick shots but not as damaging as the flintlock as single shots but landing both would equal the damage. These would be quick draw.
    I could also see maybe holding a smaller pistol one in your left hand *if you have one, and the cutlass in the right.

    It only needs one, if you sneak up on someone... ;)

    Speaking of sneaking... you should be able to have a throat slit or run through finishing move if you are able to sneak up on a pirate from behind with the cutlass!

  • I very much disagree with removing it. I would however be in support of making the reload time a tad bit longer to bring it more into balance with the pistol. I usually rock the pistol / blunder combo and 8 / 10 I can kill one or two pirates before either getting taken out or the rest of my crew kills them. I only ever use the cutlass for Skull voyages or forts.

  • @lotrmith Sneaking isn't the problem.. It being the only weapon people use is..besides us real pirate don't sneak!

    The blunderbuss needs to be nerfed beyond use or removed! While i like the two slot idea combined with increased reload time.. i still think people will pick it over a sword. To compromise with people maybe increase it's power and range...but it uses all 5 shots and requires people an insane amount of load time.. so the gun would be somthing of a secert weapon you use once a fight. This would at least get rid of the bounce house fights..

  • I think it's fine, I've stopped using it for PvP personally. The cutlass if used well offers more mobility, less downtime, and (perhaps surprisingly) better range.

  • @my-dirty-muffin Removing is very extreme, but either remove the one shot ability or make it far easier to 1 shot with the other guns. I think the best idea is to nerf the blunderbuss (and buff the sniper, jesus) to bring them all in line a bit more.

    Blunderbuss IS overpowered, it is NOT hard to sneak up on someone especially in the close quarters of an enemy ship you are boarding and it's basically a fight for who can get their blunderbuss ready and closer to someone first and click fire, there is no skill involved and everyone resorts to use the blunderbuss as a result which is a shame, pirates should be able to equip weapons based on what feels right to them and what suits their pirate and playstyle. This will only happen if they are all balanced.

    Keep it simple, still have 5 bullets, but less damage. I mean lets be real if blunderbuss can 1 hit why can't all the other guns? and bullet would kill someone if placed properly, it makes no sense why this guns is head and shoulders above the rest at the moment.

  • @angrycoconut16 Guns as a whole should all be nerfed. I'm fine with them killing by they need to be very inaccurate. Pirates fight with swords and cannons. If ya wanna shoot people go play fortnite or Cod

    He does have a hard time hitting Bugs Bunny when he jumps around, so I would say it's somewhat fitting at least.

  • Be more pirate? Wouldn't the pirate choose the option that would increase the odds of winning the most? You want to bring the sword to a gun fight that is your choice.

  • @buck-luny You can stun lock and push away blunderbuss users with the sword if they get close enough to do any real damage (which you shouldn't let them do, but still). No need for blocking their shots.

    Didn't we even start off with 3 Weapons in one of the Betas? I certainly remember having the Sword, Blunderbuss and Pistol at some point.

    Or i have gone crazy during my times alone at sea.

  • @buck-luny So we agree one is easier to use while the other is better, or at least perfectly competitive, in the hands of a skilled player? I don't see the problem.

    Really? The Blunderbuss is THAT pirate thingy - and it is a really good closed combat weapon.
    Did you know?:

    • one fully load for Blunderbuss cant kill you at full health
    • you can "easily" sidestep in CC to avoid beeing shot
    • you won´t be hit if you are quite far away.

    It´s a good weapon and a versatile option. REMOVING is not necessary, maybe increase load time a bit or tweak dmg output/range/spreading.

  • @lyk2 yep, you're right. back in closed beta and maybe the first scale test (not sure about that one) you had all the weapons on you.

  • @buck-luny You get the edge of no ammo capacity restriction, which I'd say is quite significant with several players involved.

    I would not remove it, I'd make it so you can only reload it while standing still. That's the only annoying part of it if you are going in with a sword. You survive the initial hit, then they jump backwards, you can't reach them in time and then you get the second hit and die.

  • @confusedgamer99 Its not a deep hardcore game to be very good at though...I'd argue that I'm as good as you can get with the way it is now. Can't even quick scope .. the game is just bad shotgun fights... thats it.

  • Um no, the sword is the most powerful weapon in the game. Blunderbuss is really effective as well but I often switch between weapons as the situation demands. I suggest learning to block-dash or block-evade with the sword as this will get you out of line of fire quickly in sword vs gun fights. I honestly think removing or even nerfing the blunderbuss is an extreme measure.
