Golden chickens worth more than Chest of Sorrows?

  • Doesn't it seem odd that a golden chicken (1.5 K) would sell for more than a Chest of Sorrows (1.3 K)?

I enjoy the bit of chance that comes with turning in a piece of loot, but the current value ranges in the game could be more balanced.

Top-tier chests have consistently averaged less than top-tier animals in particular. You should never get more from a golden snake than from a stronghold chest in my opinion... and yet just the other night our crew experienced that very situation. Over 2 K for the golden snake and only 1.3 K for the stronghold chest.

I've had captain's chests go for only 500 gold, but I can't recall ever getting less than 1 K from a golden animal. This is why it's so profitable to spam merchant voyages until you find a goldie. Sometimes I don't even bother with the other animals on the charter, I just cash in the goldie and then abandon the voyage.

I still love doing the Gold Hoarder voyages though, but it would benefit the game in my opinion if Rare increased the minimum values for high-tier chests and the like. Values can still vary, but just tweak it so that you don't end up with high-tier loot cashing in for less than mid-tier loot.

  • I’m not sure about the Chest of Sorrows as I’ve only ever found 2 or 3 and don’t recall their values. I have seen the chickens and other golden animals go to just about 1k though. I’ve never had a stronghold chest/Skull below 2k, so that could have just been a combo of really bad and really good RNG for you, just on the wrong items of what you’d want it to be on LoL.

I think in general the value of all the items should be raised slightly. Captains chests shouldn’t give you below 1k, and castaways shouldn’t be giving 79 gold, that makes it barely worth it to find them and transport them.

Are you sure? The most I've ever got for a golden chicken is 250 or so gold no where near 1000 in fact that goes the same for all golden animals. I have only ever found one Chest of Sorrows and did get about a 1000 gold for it. As for Captains Chests I think the lowest was about 600 which did frustrate me and is something I think Rare should look into and ensure that rare items such as Captains Chest don't go below a certain limit. Out of interest were the animals you sold for a Merchant Alliance voyage or did you find and sell them all randomly?

  • first im pretty sure that the stronghold range is 1.8k-4k and the only reason you get soo much for a animals is because you deliver them to the right outpost on the right time, its not like other rewards you can sell anywhere and get the gold, try to sell one of your snakes while doing a voyge to a different outpost and you will get up to 300 gold. So it does make sense

When you have a merchant quest for a golden animal they’re an easy 1k+ each

  • @harlton-cheston You're robbing yourself, by not completing the voyages.

  • @wodyo what does completing the voyage actually net you? It appears you get experience for just turning in the items. Do you get additional rep for actually completing the voyage?

  • 1.3 for a chest of sorrows? Not bad... i always get 900-950 for a grog and sorrows

  • With Captain's Chests ranging from 700ish to right around 1k, I feel like Grog should be 1k-1.2k, Sorrows at 1.2k to 1.5k. The exceptionally high amount of gold you get for golden animals is the only reason I even consider doing MA voyages. If that value were to be lowered, I would never do a Merchant Alliance voyage again until it was fixed.

If you complete the voyage, you'll obtain more loot. More loot = more XP.

Yes, digging up a Castaway's Chest after searching for 'X marks the spot' for 30+ minutes can be utterly disappointing. They add up, though, and it's better to be rewarded something than not at all. Not only that, but you don't even know what other treasures you might have not discovered, because you didn't complete the voyage.

Even if the actual act of Completing the Voyage doesn't provide an XP boost, the process of obtaining all of the loot therein provides XP.

  • @daddy-sanctus Yep... buying the map / voyage for a castaway chest is more expensive than the actual chest!

  • @harlton-cheston Seeing as it's the only chest that can sink you, I think it should be worth the most.

  • animal quest use to be loot more work over chest. and if the quest dont say golden chicken the golden chicken coming sell for around 100 g. chest quest can be started where you want but animal quest who is started you most go to outpost to get cages. animal quest go on time but chest quest dont do it. one chest voga can give many many tresure i,m have got map with 6 on and voga chest quest can give me many map so it be many many tresure but animal quest dont use to give 15 stuff maybe 7 for me. many chest dont use to eat all you food or do hight sound some alarm clock or try slow kill you hp but animals do it chickenn do hight sound pigs eat all you food and snake want to kill you. chest you known where to find on map, animal quest is loot harder player most drive from island to island and hope find the correct one who maybe is hiden and on move animal quest dont say where to find anny thing. quest chest can be sold in every outpost to give good money but for quest animal them most be delivered to the correct one to pay good and that one can be long away to and maybe hard to get. so yea maybe golden chicken pay more in quest for animals use to be loot more hardes and work over what chest quest use to be:)

  • For everyone wondering about values, this spreadsheet collects all data and has on overview of min, max and average values:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NbLpLdakTs6F_RhCT-hkQ8UpuE0a-RW60P0aN9EQvuw/edit#gid=0

As I've contributed to this quite a lot I can say that it is true that merchant voyage animals are on average worth more than same tier chests or skulls. It would be nice to see the min and max values for some items being adjusted up. I like being able to haul animals for a good price, but it would be nice if finding captains, grog and sorrow chests and villanous skulls felt a little more rewarding.

  • @niennaneryam Wow, good work! Where is this data coming from? Just personal, or has it been aggregated from others too?

  • @cyrribrae I found the spreadsheet when looking for data, not sure who made it, but everyone can contribute. So since then I've been logging all my earnings and submitting them when I'm done. I'm definitely not the only one submitting though ;) Got my 150.000 gold mark with the merchants while logging :P Now rocking the Gilded Merchant title :)

  • @alphacenturion2 He is selling them as turn ins for the merchant voyages. They are worth much more if they r part of a voyage.

Yes, thank you for sharing. This is very interesting, and I'm definitely going to start logging my turn-ins as well.

@wodyo said in Golden chickens worth more than Chest of Sorrows?:

@harlton-cheston You're robbing yourself, by not completing the voyages.

Maybe I am, but I'm willing to sacrifice that extra little bit if the time saved outweighs those profits. Say for example our crew has been collecting extra goldies along the way using the crates we get from cancelled voyages. If the next voyage asks for an animal we already have, then sometimes it's faster to just turn in the goldie and do it again. This method can net you more than a stronghold for the time spent, especially if you use a map or booty tracker.

  • @alphacenturion2 when you have a voyage for it, golden animals usually give you 1.5k or more, not often it's a little bit less

  • I never got over 1000 for a chest of sorrows or a chest of thousands grogs...always about 900

  • @harlton-cheston I agree, unless them chickens lay golden eggs lol.

  • You got 1.3k for a Chest of Sorrows? Lucky!

I usually get around the high 900 gold range for those.

  • Agreed that the top tier loot should be worth consistently more than golden animals. I'd like to see 1.5k+ for sorrows and 1k+ for grog.

Using golden animals as a baseline for chest of sorrows makes sense if only because you are encouraged to head straight to an outpost once you get the chest. It can cut an otherwise profitable session short to avoid the risk of getting sunk.

  • Gunpowder Barrel easiest thing to find quickly that pays out the most with out a quest . you can make a quick $1000 in under 15 min of game play. thats 4k each hour.

  • @harlton-cheston

Did you ever notice that chests are by far the most easiest treasure as well as getting as well as escorting? If you happen to by pure luck get a chest of emos then it still is less to go sell it then doing a high merchant quest? Chickens need to be actively searched for and can get killed by one cannonball that a skeleton NPC might hit you with if you are just unlucky enough....

The real shame is that pigs are less worth then chicken because pigs are chicken that need a constant supply of bananas and basicly the same monitoring then a chest of sorrows

  • Sometimes captains chests are worth more than cursed chests. As it stands my levels are 48, 46, 50 and I've only seen 20 cursed chests and they are not worth their rarity

  • Doing merchant quest get more money due to demand maybe.
While the chest have their own fix price (unless you level up i think)

Turning golden colored animals without a quest dont give you more gold cause maybe the demand is not that great.

Looking at the board give you a hint whats on demand (not sure, just making this up after looking at the merchant’s board)

  • @niennaneryam thanks for sharing,Very helpful

  • @harlton-cheston the golden animal give lot of cash only when u got them as a mission the chest is always lot of $$$

  • I guess thats the problem with a real RNG loot system.

We have been spoiled by all the other games that mimic a randomized loot system, but ultimately promise good loot and live up to that promise.

It's just luck, the lower end of these chests tend to be around the 900 mark, so I'd say thats close enough to a "promised good outcome".

  • A golden chicken is able to make 10 eggs an hour.
An the merchant can sell 6 eggs for 3 coins.
The lifetime of a golden chicken is about 10 years.

    10 years x 365 x 24 x 10.

So the guy who sell egs from his golden chicken will won 438.000 coins in about 10 years. That's why they are expensive.

Golden PiG grow up pretty fastly and eat lot more than other, they will deliver more food, and you can sell golden bacon for the price of gr of gold. Which make for the one that bought it, a rich person....

I'm really considering of stopping my pirate activity, very worthless, and starting a farm activity in sea of thieves. I would be richer. Who sell Golden Pig/Chicken?

  • Seriously speaking, When you sell to the merchant, you sell to a price.
When you sell the chest to the gold hoarer, i'm pretty sure that this guy is a thief. We only get maybe 10% of the chest.
When you see that you sell a capitain chest with a crew of 4 and give us 1000 each, it means that the capitain chest have a value of more than 4000.... So when you do solo, the guy will smile to you and become richer....
Let make an alliance to kill them all !!!!!

  • @genereder Pigs are not worth less than chickens. Neither are snakes. They are all worth about the same, it's just that the payout is a random number between x and y and you might just've been unlucky with your pig prices.

Okay that's cool but I always assumed they'd be about 250 which is the price for a non-voyage golden animal so it seems a bit out of proportion that the price would skyrocket to about 1k+. Surely a Captains chest which is full of and made of gold would be worth much more. It makes me wonder if the chest is worth more than the gold contained inside it.
