Doesn't it seem odd that a golden chicken (1.5 K) would sell for more than a Chest of Sorrows (1.3 K)?
I enjoy the bit of chance that comes with turning in a piece of loot, but the current value ranges in the game could be more balanced.
Top-tier chests have consistently averaged less than top-tier animals in particular. You should never get more from a golden snake than from a stronghold chest in my opinion... and yet just the other night our crew experienced that very situation. Over 2 K for the golden snake and only 1.3 K for the stronghold chest.
I've had captain's chests go for only 500 gold, but I can't recall ever getting less than 1 K from a golden animal. This is why it's so profitable to spam merchant voyages until you find a goldie. Sometimes I don't even bother with the other animals on the charter, I just cash in the goldie and then abandon the voyage.
I still love doing the Gold Hoarder voyages though, but it would benefit the game in my opinion if Rare increased the minimum values for high-tier chests and the like. Values can still vary, but just tweak it so that you don't end up with high-tier loot cashing in for less than mid-tier loot.
