A friend and myself we're trading ideas back and forth on what we'd think would be cool or fun to encounter while in game. We use the storm frequently during combat and hiding out location when being tailed. We felt that some sort of cursed or ghost type ship would randomly spawn in the storm that would turn hostile to players if they got to close to it. Of course, by sinking the ship, you'd get some sort of cursed chest or cursed skull for defeating the ship. There could even be special ship wrecks in the storms that have a better chance of having better loot inside. Just some ideas that we had that others may be interest in.
Ships and shipwrecks in the storm

how should that work with spawning wrecks in a storm ,the storm is moving,u would have a trail of shipwrecks;)
Shipwrecks already are randomly spawned and despawned, so I would wager with a similar mechanic and just spawning new ones at intervals along the storm path.
@chugginss This is a nice idea, there has GOT to be a hostile ghost ship in the game. But I think Rare said they were against NPC ships or something... which would be a real shame as a ghost ship would rock, even if it was just as a boss...
The idea of encouraging players to go into the storm is an interesting one :) would definitely provide incentive for some interesting PvP battles too! However as someone said above the storm is moving xD Would it just leave a trail of more valuable ship wrecks? I'm not sure if that part of the idea would work... and to be honest if a Ghost ship was added it should be separate to the storm, not just spawn in the storm :P
@chugginss I think storms should be alot larger than they currently are, they should be at least the size of 1 quarter of the map making it even more likely to have ship battles in it
@angrycoconut16 so how about we bring everything to one place. If you die X number of times in a certain time frame you have to go serve the cursed ship (whatever we are calling it). And you sail around in a perpetual storm trying to kill other ships for a short service.
If there are not the minimum needed to serve ship doesn't even spawn.
That way there is a death toll and still some sort of fun to be had through that toll.
A micro instance.
@fancypantzmcgee I think it's an interesting idea but I want to feel like I'm fighting something ethereal, some strong AI threat, not other players... that would defeat the object for me.
@angrycoconut16 oooooh. You would. When you went into a storm and encountered the ghost ship.
I only suggest this as they won't make npc ships. So we need to leverage pcs to become the operators of this ship. So idk. Lol
The ghost ship wouldn't always be there. It'd be a random encounter similar to the kraken, like it's own special little event. As far as shipwrecks in the storm, I suppose the time they stay active would be much shorter since the ship that sank would have taken a considerable amount of damage from the storm, possibly a shipwreck where the ship has been broken into two pieces? Maybe making the storm a bit bigger would help also since it feels somewhat small at times.

I remember reading something similar. I believe it said they want players to know that any time they see a ship, it's another player.
@khol-thndrwlkr That was it! Well remembered :P Which is a shame, I mean it would be really really obvious if it was a spectral ship that it was a ghost ship not a player ship :P....
@AngryCoconut16 Indeed, I think the addition of some NPC ships could be awesome if done right.
These types of ships would have to look completely different from player ships, just to maintain the ability to know who is a player. Maybe merchants sailing a flat bottomed ferry that could be raided for tea/sugar/etc. crates, animals, and lots of resources.

I don't know if those ships realistically could sail on seas like in the game, but it would be drastically different looking.@khol-thndrwlkr Oh my god that looks cool, and that would hella shake the game up a bit! Rare wants new ways for players to experience the game, a couple of NPC merchants sailing through the ocean which can be sunk to obtain loot, great idea! I don't think it would happen, but something completely fresh and new like that is needed in my opinion :)
And like you say if there was a wave they'd probably be screwed haha. But yea, so long as any AI ship designs are truly unique Rare need not fear that we won't realise it's not players :P

Right? Maybe they could make them spawn only in calm waters/weather for it to make a bit more sense.
