this is very hard to decide from the picture they have shown us it has to me the creature looks like a leviathan but people say its a giant shark. I believe its a leviathan because it fits into pirate lore. And the "giant shark" dose not fit into the pirate lore. To me if it would be added it will be like oh why we already have to deal with smaller ones... no here's a bigger one! They wouldn't do that to us. Please leave your thoughts below
Megalodon or leviathan?
To me it looks like a megalodon. It's not just a big shark. It's a huge one! And it's pretty obvious from the trailer. Not so sure about the picture though.
Anyway, I thought it will be the creature that the skulls in the taverns and some islands belongs to. The skulls look like it would belong to a leviathan. But who knows? Maybe It's not only one type of monster.

Not really. From the religious sources its some sort of scaled, fire-breathing monster.
Leviathan is a biblical creature and is described as a huge sea-serpent, no matter how a few artists depicts them as loch-ness monsters, crabs, sharks or pandas. I don't think of Google Image or DeviantArt as a good source material. On the other hand, SoT has more than a few shark-themed objects, there already has sharks, and the megalodon is, indeed and by definition, a giant shark.
I don't know why this is even a question to be honest, it is pretty obvious in my eyes.
The leviathan is some kind of giant sea monster, more like a sea-serpent or a sea-dragon if we think what the bible sais.
In the sea exploration period "leviathan" became everything big and unknown spottet in the water, so it fit very much with a huge shark and in the trailer there be too much shark themed things for thinking anything else
