Tips for fighting 'Meg'!!

  • So I thought I'd come in and provide some tips for when you eventually do get to take on that big beasty for yourself!

    1. You're going to need to be in T26 on the map, with 5 players playing drums.

    2. It might help to have someone shirtless! Tattoos will glow once the event has been triggered like cave paintings do for riddle maps!

    3. Use those cannons! This goes without saying really!

    4. When you see it turn towards your ship, get below decks with planks. It'll spin your ship and knock everyone on the top deck off, as well as causing major hull damage, all players on the top deck could sink you immediately since there's no one on board to repair!

    5. Yes, disappointingly you will have to carry the shanty all the way from Merrick. Not too hard when done right though!

Any other tips I missed? I'll be updating this as time goes on so let me know if there's anything I forgot!

  • @carcinogenetxc I’ll def be needing a crew then.

    ^ solo cap’n

  • @dutchdeadschot
Oh I did too! Luckily a Galleon crew of 4 French guys turned up at Sharkbait Cove, 3 of them legends, and helped me. So I disembarked my solo Galleon and instructed them as best I could while I kept the tune!

  • @carcinogenetxc I finished the fight this morning. Was A LOT of fun. But I think it's some of the worst game design I've ever seen that we have to carry the shanty all the way over to the proper spot. I really hope they just give us the shanty to use when in the area like the legend shanty.

  • 3 tips on handling Meg like a pro:
If you do enough damage to Meg (about 5 or 6 cannon shots) while she's going in for a bite, she'll swim underneath the boat instead, leaving you undamaged. Leave your cannons loaded to reach this damage threshold as quickly as possible.

Shooting Meg with firearms (preferably Eye of Reach) can provoke her into a bite attempt, which is what you want. Controlling when she bites is controlling WHERE she bites, and you don't want her biting a part of the ship where the cannons can't reach. As such, try not to provoke her while she is off the front or back of the ship.

Line your ships up single-file. This increases the angle for bites you can defend against, and eliminates the risk of "friendly" fire, but leaves the front & back vulnerable to bites.
Alternatively, you can arrange your ships in an L to cover (nearly) every angle, but this leaves you exposed to stray cannon/firearm shots

  • @dutchdeadschot Sort of. I started soloing it, and by the end was part of an armada made up of four sloops. That was fun, to fight the big beast in small boats.

  • I am not sure if we just found the perfect spot or a glitch, but we were along the border of T26 and U26 and the meg never bit our sloop! It would swim towards our ship like it was going to bite but then it made a sharp turn and avoided us. It allowed us to save all our boards, cannons and bananas for the galleons as well as let us continuously attack without having to bail water or repair!

  • I have tried 3 times and failed each time! We had lots of wooden planks, fired cannonballs in it’s mouth a lot but alas... we ended up sinking eventually. Any more tips? Trying again tonight because I really want that figurehead! Oh and if you want to join us on a galleon tonight on european time, let me know because it’s just my friend and me! 2 open spots!

  • After it's summoned, Meg can be killed by a duo sloop!

This happened in my 1st kill. As a duo sloop we and another galleon summoned her, but we underestimated the amount of planks that were needed and the galleon sank. We returned to our ship and hilarity ensues:

After Meg is summoned, turn the rudder all the way to one side and drop the sail, effectively putting the sloop in a holding pattern. One player just tries to damage Meg with cannons and gunfire, helping with repair if needed, the other is on only bail/repair duty. So long as both players stay alive, you can virtually indefinitely fight her off! Took us the better part of 25 min, but we got her...just the 2 of us.

Often, while she begins her attack she will fall in line behind the sloop, and never actually connect. Meanwhile, the damaging player can just unload into her, usually takes something like 15 shots, and she'll disengage. Rinse, repeat, dead megalodon!

This is a great way to stall the fight as well. The original galleon was actually able to get in range just before Meg died, and got credit! Never give up, never surrender!

  • Another tip is to mix crews. If just one of your crew is present within range when Meg did, then everybody in your crew gets credit. This will save you if one ship sinks and you do not manage to get back before Meg is killed.
