Graphics Issue

  • My friend's been getting triangular blueish artifacts flashing on his screen when he enters the game. It doesn't happen in the main menu. It only happens as soon as he gets in game.

    Things he's tried:
    Updating graphics card
    Reverting to an old version
    Lowering all graphics to cursed
Disabled shadow cache from the NVIDIA Control Panel.

He has an EVGA 1080 graphics card with 16gb RAM. Windows 10.

This is a gif of what's happening: https://media.giphy.com/media/ZxphCeOOFEJlPJpKFP/giphy.gif

And to be clear, this only happens in Sea of Thieves. No other game does this. Even a game as intense as GTA 5 doesn't do it.

    Please help.

  • Not sure if it will make much difference but try this...

    • Go to Settings
    • System
    • Display tab
    • Click "Graphics settings"
    • Choose class app and add browse for "Sea of Thieves"
    • click options
    • Set High Performance

    fingers crossed

  • @realstyli Wait I'm sorry, what?
Where am I finding settings? From the desktop? or in game? I'm confused

  • @irelius

Your Windows settings... Click the Windows icon bottom left (or press Windows key), then the gear icon above the power icon

  • @realstyli Oh okay. I don't see "Graphics Settings" when I'm there though. Am I missing something?

  • @irelius

You should see "System"? Click that

  • (Also, correction to the steps above, SoT is a Universal app so in the graphics settings select Universal App and it will appear in the drop down menu below that)

  • @realstyli Yep. I went to System then I get to the display tab. I dont see anything called Graphics Settings on there.

  • @irelius

You may need to scroll down through the Display settings. Should be just above "Sleep Better" (it's a weirdly laid out menu)

  • @realstyli Yea I see "Sleep Better". I still don't see Graphics Settings :/ It's definitely not on there.

  • Okay, try doing a search for it instead in the "find a setting" box top left... type "graphics settings"

  • @realstyli Sigh no luck :/

  • Dang... It was worth a shot. Maybe there is an issue with the GPU so Windows isn't seeing it properly?

It seems weird to me that the settings are not even there for you. Windows 10, man, it's very odd.

It was a long shot anyway, sorry I wasn't able to help you :(

  • @realstyli Oh it's okay. I appreciate the attempt :)

  • Bump! Can anyone else help me?

  • Guys I really need a fix here. Check the Gif out in the first post.

  • Even if it just happens in Sea of Thieves I would stress test the GPU. Download Heaven benchmark and see if it happens again when the GPU is being hammered.

If it happens then your GPU is running to hot. But if it dont happen you can try the following.

Completely delete and re-install the GPU driver to see if that fixes it.
Delete and re-install Sea of Thieves to see if that fixes it.
