Selling of loot when a friend have just joined my crew HELP !!!!

  • Hello,

If I have been sailing on quests for a long time and have lots to sell and a friend then joins my crew uninvited do they then get xp/level up and all the coins for my hard work when I sell my loot even though they have possibly only been on my crew for a short time ?

I have had people join me after hours of sailing and help me sell all my loot and then it appears that they benefit from all my hard work.
e.g. is 400 coin given to each crew member or is it split 200 for each crew member if there is two and 100 each if four crew.

    Hopefully you can help/

  • The amount is the same across the board. They don't divide it up based on the number of crew members. Is that what you are asking?

  • @mystery7367 Hi! Do not fret! Having multiple people in your crew in no way diminishes how much you earn. If a chest was worth 1k gold solo, in a group, everyone earns 1k.

  • All members get the same reward.

    For example-

1 Castaway chest earns 100gold when turned in.

    Player A gets 100 Gold
    Player B gets 100 Gold

  • @mystery7367 If they are your friends then why would you mind sharing the wealth? Joining friends would help you to.

    #BeMorePirate 😂

  • @mystery7367 Yes, they get the same gold and rep you did even without doing the work, make private matchs, that fixes the problem, or start thinking as a good sharing pirate who likes to share, cause, why not? One more thing, all of the crew gets the same gold as if you sold everything alone, example: Suppose you sell a captain's chest for 900 gold whyle soloing, you'd get the exact same amount of gold if on a full galleon, and all the crew would get the same gold too.

  • @simplkindoman I do mind sharing my wealth because I have done all the graft and been sailing for hours and then they pop on having done nothing to help and gain the benefit of all of my hours of work.

  • @simplkindoman Cuz he aint no communist ;) JK lol

EDIT: The short-hand word for communist is censored lol

I know this is an exageration, but imagine you found water in the desert after hours of surviving and hard work searching for it, and then a stranger appears in the horizon, take in mind he can help you survive if you work together, would you drink the water or share it? (Taking the game as the base, sharing the water would mean a magic second bottle of water appears, you don't have to split yours).

  • Thanks to all for your quick answers, I am still annoyed that they can gain from my hours of hard work though lol.

  • @mystery7367 I don't understand your point but you are entitled to it. I never have friends join me without an invitation I send them so I also don't see how this happens to you.

  • @simplkindoman Friends can see you are playing sea of thieves and if there is a slot open, they can join you.

In the end it is inconsequential if they join you to earn the cash. You were not saving that spot for someone else, nor were you having to put in extra effort to redeem it because they were there.

Of course, we are still entitled to our opinions so if it bothers you, it bothers you and I can't tell you that you are wrong for feeling that way. I just would not mind so much if I was in the same situation personally.

  • @ant-heuser-kush That is a very different thing and hardly comparable to a game as my friends just sit watching me Streaming and just as I am starting to sell MY hard earned loot they jump on my crew and gain from it and then they b****r off after they have made the most of my work.

  • @mystery7367 Why not just show yourself as offline? Does that not keep them from joining?

That's what I thought but I figured they must be streaming directly from Xbox One, and it won't let you stream if you are set to offline, if I remember correctly.

  • @realstyli Ahhh. I have no idea how streaming works but that logic makes sense to me!

  • @simplkindoman How can you possibly not understand my point ?
I do hours of work and they just pop on and get all the XP and cash for doing absolutely nothing at all.

To join a friend in game without invite You just go on to your friends Xbox profile in the app or on Xbox and just select Join them in game, very simple really.

  • "Friends"

  • @mystery7367 Just saying I haven't got that ability from my xbox one. I click the profile of a friend online playing SOT and click join game but it is not available. When I ask them for an invitation then I can join. Also I haven't had a friend join me unless I invite them while I'm on a ship with space for a crew member.

Besides I have on many occasions invited friends and even some random players to join me before I sell a bunch of loot. What goes around comes around. I live by one rule perhaps you've heard of it...

The golden rule: Do unto others as you would have done unto you.

  • There is a easy solution to this. Delete all your friends. This way they can’t join your private crew.

They probably won’t be bothered having you drop them by the sounds of it.

  • I keep laughing at this post. Last week we delayed selling an Athena’s chest for over 10 minutes as we had an open slot and were trying to find a friend to share it. Last night I had a friend tell me not to log off his sloop, instead just hit the controller every so othen to stay active while I was working so I could share in his merchant grind.

So much senseless selfishness in the world.

  • Just appear offline and then no friends will join

  • @mystery7367 start with a closed crew...no one can join

  • Friends can join your closed crew

  • @omnipotence13 without an invite? how is that closed?....

the other option is to not 'friend' every random stranger on the internet and call them friends....because I wouldn't mind one of my actual friends getting gold/rep

He was in a private match. If someone is on your friends list they can join your private match without being invited. He wasn't meaning randoms.

  • @triheadedmonkey
Yes if you are both on each other's friends list then they can join your private session without an invite. It only excludes randoms from joining.

  • If it bothers you and someone does this make a note of their name and then remove them from your friendslist.

Just like anything else that someone might do in the game when they're on a crew with you that you dislike.

If you don't want to play with people who do things you dislike you don't have to, but if they're on your friendslist you can't stop them joining you.

  • You know the friends list is for actual friends, right?

  • First off welcome to how the first pirate legend got his title and secondly yes the loot is equally divided between all party members

I thought you said they were your friend... That's not particularly friendly.

  • I think when they announced the closed crew they said they were working on the private crew where your friends won't be able to join you :)

  • @mystery7367 If i'm not completely wrong, Rare is working on the option of "invite only" crews, so this could be interesting for you in the future.

Delay your stream by several minutes then. :) Change it every time you stream so they can't guess the time to jump in. :)

Or just let them do it and don't sweat it.
