How about raising a tankard? Other than just being able to put your tankard, like you would a lantern for riddles, raising your tankard could function as a way to make a cheers. The function would be simple, one player raises their tankard and when another player does the same the two do a mirrored “cheers” emote, forcing their tankards to clink together. The clink could even make a satisfying sound. Heck, it could also serve as a different “make friends” feature, rather than timing the emote right or trying it a few times until you both get it.
Why are tankard refills free in the tavern? When you can sell the Chest of 1000 Grogs for a bucket-load of gold why is it that going to a tavern and getting a refill is free? Personally, I feel like it should cost some small amout, like 1-10 gold for instance. Not for any real function, but just a neat detail in the game.
Final idea involving the tankard, I promise. It would be great if in taverns you could challenge crew mates and other crews to drinking games (first one to throw-up for example). Each player would sit at a table designated for the game in the tavern, then a menu for how much each player wants to bet appears. They would be betting on who can last longer without throwing up. A bit of a gamble I think. The amout bet does not have to be anything preset, but like 100 gold would be a good starting price. Then a timer appears on screen for 5 seconds, once the time is up each player starts drinking. Once they finish, it’s a waiting game, maybe a 30 second timer could be running. Who ever throws up first walks away with all the gold bet. If neither person gives by the end then they just walk away with the money they bet, no one looses.
