Currently the Eye of Reach sniper rifle's range is greater than the player model viewing distance. It's definitely possible to get hits on players you can't actually see but there is no way of knowing if you have actually hit or killed them.
I would prefer if the player model viewing distance was simply increased but I understand there are performance issues with implementing this. In the mean time if at least the hit sound and animation (the white X) were played when a hit was made from any range it would go a long way to improving the use of the Eye of Reach.
The main situation I see this being useful is when chasing a sloop. You definitely can just snipe blind outside of the player model drawing distance by simply aiming for areas they most likely will be such as the wheel. At extreme ranges with practice it's even possible to hit targets such as the wheel after the bullet starts to drop. However without any feedback from the hit sound and animation you can't know if your actually hitting anyone even if you develop the skill to do so.
I would love to snipe long range in this game but without being able to even see other players at long ranges and having no hit sounds it's just not viable currently.
