New Treasure!

  • Who would like to see new treasure in various forms? The old sea dogs of SoT have grown weary of the current treasure selection. We need a reason to rinse and repeat voyages.

I propose that new treasure chests be implemented. I want to see new interactive chests and changed images. Also, how about we mine pearls from clams or gems from rocks?

    Let me know what you think! @Musicmee @Natsu-v2 @CaptnJaq @Bronxbombazz @KnifeLife

  • I wanna see other ways of getting money and progressing other than continuously selling the same items over and over again. The basics of getting cash in SoT reminds me of mobile games. Too much repetition. Chests etc should be much harder to come by but rewards should be much greater. With that we'd need *Mike Chapman: "new and interesting ways" of progressing and getting cash. The reason voyages and finding chests feel like a chore is because there's too many chests. It doesn't feel special when you find one and you know all you can expect from it is the amount of gold you usually get. No excitement at all. No feeling of discovery. I find it ridiculous that you're able to find 20 chests in 1 hour, overload your ship with it (which also affects game performance), and then run back and forth with chests to the npc 1 by 1 for 10 minutes just to be able to afford a broken bottle and one dirty shoe.

  • @Captain-Surgee You hit the nail right on the head! With boat loads of chests, they don’t feel as special. Also, the reward is much lower now than for those of us that tested the game prior to launch. @Ant-Heuser-Kush We need a little more than one new chest buddy.

  • even in games with more variation u know what u get for your items,i would love it having 200 different chests n skulls n what ever in the game;)

  • I feel it would be fairly easy to introduce 10+ more types of chests. Rare should be all over this as it is a good suggestion.

  • @augunslingin Oh I agree here 100%, a slight variation or a few new treasure types to add to the mix would spice up the gameplay a bit and make it feel a little less repetitive at times.

I was really hoping for gems with the cursed depths stuff, especially when the mermaids were coloured around them and had little gem hearts.

  • I've got a couple of ideas for new chests:

The first is a chest that increases in value the longer you have it on board your ship, then at a random point starts to depreciate rapidly.

Secondly, what about a chest that once picked up by a member of your crew, is worth zero if at any point in its journey to be sold a member of your crew fires a weapon or cannon.

  • Now that skeletons will likely have the ability to have pathfinding on vessels how about a chest that periodically has some skeletons climb out of it?

edit: Oh, or even better! Special uncapturable snakes! (it must always be snakes!)

  • Still in Alpha times I've proposed large chests that are fit for two players to carry. Just imagine seeing a solo player digging out this huge thing (it would take much longer to dig it out alone) in panic and then very slowly dragging it to his sloop. In Gears of War there were levels where two players needed to cooperate to carry a very large chest. It was pretty fun.

I see it this way. 2 players can carry the large chest at high speed. One player can do it too but it will be veery slow. The chest doesn't need to be gigantic in appearance so it can still be mounted on the back of a climbing pirate. Twice the size is enough.

Every cursed chest can have a 2x size version with 2x stronger effect. That chest of sorrows...would be really deadly.. or just imagine trying to ballance out the chest of thousand grogs together with your mate.

Now that's the variety that would make a difference.

  • @Musicmee I hope Rare hears our pleads! The introduction of gems would really add a lot of content for just a little work. @Stone0898 Those are some interesting ideas for chests! I like the idea of treasure values being increased based upon difficult stipulations.

  • They need to be cursed chests to be worth anything in my eyes. A chest that only has more gold values is worthless without risks to be taken. Good ideas have been given so far, very interesting. How about a Chest of Souls. Once onboard your ship it with randomly kill a crewman while stealing his soul. The crewman goes to the ferry but will be able to come back with the normal time allotted. Longer it’s on the ship the more souls it consumes and at a faster rate each time. That’s a cursed chest.
