Are Skeletons on Skeletons Ships Finite?

  • Hello fellow thieves,
I was curious if anyone knew how many skeletons start on a skeleton ship as well as if they are finite. When boarding an enemy skeleton ship, I really enjoy being able to tussle with the crew. But when I see them crawling from below, I can't tell if they are doing that because they can't use stairs, of this that is how they spawn a new skeleton to replace any I have killed. I have a theory that they just respawn and it is impossible to kill the entire crew, since I've successfully have killed the captain and they eventually show up again.
Sometimes it just feels like killing the crew doesn't make a difference because there just appears to a never ending stream of them, even after killing the repair and cannon skeles.
Does anyone have any insight on this?
    Thanks

  • Yep! They will keep spawning indefinitely. Thus making boarding a waste of time for the most part.

  • @psych0-knightro
Thanks for the quick response! But I'm sad to hear that they indefinitely spawn. Might have to rethink some of my play patterns.

While your right that the skelly spawn indefinitly on their ship i would hardly call boarding a waste of time as you can prevent them from repairing the ship as well as scout/scavenge for loot or take out their cannons. @webhippo There are many uses in boarding an AI ship just as if were a players ship. One tactic i found to come in handy was to shoot the meg from the enermy ship to draw aggro to it.

    Not really

Keg a ship, defend the holes, congrats you sunk it in 30 seconds

What's wasteful is dumping 100+ cannonballs into a handful of ships lol

@enf0rcer This... just. blew. my. mind.

  • @psych0-knightro If you board them with a keg and stop the repairs (seeing how they can't bail water) they will sink extremely fast. Even if you don't use a gunpowder keg, simply boarding while your crewmates shoot the ship from the outside works as well.

  • The skeletons on the ship all have different jobs and one can't take a job from another so if you could kill them permanently they'd be doomed.
However if you focus on keeping certain members of the crew dead then they effectively can't do their job.
The jobs I know of are...

    • Manning the cannons (sword skeletons).
    • Repairing the ship (unarmed skeletons).
    • Defending the ship (the blunderbuss skeletons).
    • Steering the ship (the captain).
    • Sniping (eye of reach skeletons).

So for example if you are in a rocky area and keep killing the captain then you could get them to crash into the rocks.

I could almost swear in a mess of skeletons on the ships, a handful of times I've seen a skele with a blunderbuss drop it to try to last minute repair

  • I recommend watching the new developer video to see how they made the skeletons work on the new ships. They show that they all can travel a certain path on the ship and do in fact change roles as needed.

I might be wrong with them always having those weapons but previously I've ignored the blunderbuss ones that follow you deck to deck and they didn't repair.

Incorrect, they state in the video that they have "dedicated roles" and mention taking out the captain and cannon skeletons. You can also see they are named after their jobs in the prototype shots (one of which was a now defunct role of Sail Handler).

Double back some time. You might notice it too. I'm almost positive I've seen skeles who should have shot me in the face change their mind last second to repair because they're filling up way too fast.

Cannon skeles seem to turn into defence blunderbuss skeles when knocked off cannons as well
