it would be nice to have a "save ship" option so that players could save their ship with all its resources and treasure if they want to log off for the night. exiting with the treasure might sound annoying, but if they add an out of combat required time before logging off then that would probably fix it.(out of combat could mean no nearby enemy players not just no ship damage)
My thoughts on how it should work:
the crew would be able to vote to save the ship just like voting to scuttle it. once the vote is successful the ship will slowly start to turn into a transparent ghost ship and once the transformation is completed all players and attacks will pass right through it and from there the ship will become even more transparent till it vanishes. to re-spawn the ship the host of that game will have to go back to the main menu where there will be an option to create a new party with the saved ship. every player will have the ability to save one of each ship variety.
"Save ship" option
@athios Interesting concept.
It is a shame to leave a game with a fully stocked ship but I think we could settle for just saving the ship itself.
Although we don't always play with the same crew so it could get a bit too much.I'd like to be able to save the ship adorned with the same livery, sails, figurehead, flag and MOST IMPORTANTLY it's battle scars.
In fact, that's the way it should have always been.
If you sink, it should spawn a patched up version of what you were just sailing.
If you want a new ship then you'd have to buy a replacement from the shipwright.Perhaps the ship (one of each size) could be awarded to each player profile.
Enter the game and select a vessel from your inventory. Then add / invite your crew.
An alternative would be to propose and vote (in the tavern) on a whose ship the crew will be using. The saving of our ships would also be great for whenever we finally get to name our ship although it should only be saved by the owner of the vessel.
Being able to save your treasure would be game breaking. If your crew sinks another ship, you could load up their loot, save it, exit, and respawn at an outpost to sell it when you know you won’t spawn with ships close enough to take it from you. Or let’s say you just cleared a skull fort and loaded up the loot. This would effectively be a way to fast travel to an outpost to sell without the risk of transporting the goods.
To quote R***y Jackson, “It’s a no from me, dawg.”

Edit: wow, a very common, and otherwise inoffensive first name of some dude got censored? These auto filters are getting out of hand.
@athios I was hoping to see a feature like this for PL as they were suppost to gain the abilty to own their own ship. I would haved assumed this would've happen when you bring your boat back to the hideout.
Since @rockinpodunk already addressed the main reason why this isn't a thing, I think I'll tackle what @Admiral-RRRSole said:
While I think it would be nice to save all of our designs (full sets or our own custom mixed-and-matched designs) for not just our boats, but for our clothes, vanity, tools, and weapons too, we're just not quite there yet.
That said, I don't like the idea of buying a new ship from the shipwright - this unnecessarily punishes players even further who get attacked and lose their ship and loot. Don't you think that's more than enough? It incentivizes players to quit, which is something I'm sure the developers at Rare don't want. As for inventory selection and voting, both are moot, because you already get to choose exactly what ship you sail at the beginning of the game, regardless of whether you are creating or joining a crew - it doesn't get any better than that (and putting it to a vote will only cause contention among the crew).
Sorry mate, I mustn't have been clear enough.
I meant IF you want a new ship (clean of patches) then you could buy one. Otherwise you keep the same vessel, patched holes and all.As for the voting idea it was an alternative to the current system for the saved ship idea to work. But I guess it could be the person who enters the game first and invites others who gets to use their saved vessel.
@admiral-rrrsole Hmm, just yesterday I sold a slightly-used sloop that was nearly fully stocked on an LFG. Well I didn't really sell it (or make a profit), but it was fun nonetheless to make it like an old newspaper ad. The kid that took me up on my offer was really grateful.
