Sea of Thieves Companion App

  • Imagine a live feed view of your Map on another device. view your ship and map at all times on or off your ship using a phone or tablet. Much like a fallout 4 companion app, you can access your map and get a better status of your surroundings much more effectivly (especially when playing alone). I would pay for a feature like this and im sure many of you would find this useful. Maybe can even expand on it and allow it to manage crew and other options via the app. A true Captains Map!

Even though I personally wouldn't use it, I actually really like this idea. Maybe when they add pets you could use this to take care of them like a Tamagotchi.

  • @j-flo-sgt Objection! I strongly vote no to this and here's why:

I like that you can't see the map until you're looking at the map - with a companion app like you've suggested - will change the dynamic of the game for the worse.

If you're solo, on a sloop, you can see the map behind you. There's absolutely no need for a companion map app.

On a larger ship - you have to rely on your crew - and that's good because it gets you to communicate with your crew, and gives them something to do. There's already far few activities for those not sailing to be doing while you're sailing - and removing the need for a "mapper" in your crew means one less task to occupy an otherwise boring sail island to island.

Crews would disband in an instant; the game would suddenly favour solo-play, and the Sea of Thieves would become the Sea of "hang on a moment while I check the map on my phone"

it can easily be balanced. reduced range of the map, reduced distance of the map view and it could only be used for a sloop if necessary. You could even have it only enabled when you are on the boat. Plenty of balancing options not to mention other features with a companion app not pertaining to the map. they could even use it for X marks the spot maps. Extra features wont break the game i promise.

  • in fallout you can equip items using the app. With the cannon balls introduced you could do the same thing. Companion apps are meant to extend gameplay as an extra option of interaction. No one will be forced to use them and it doesnt have to be an overpowered tool either.

You don't need a map on you phone when it's behind you on a sloop. It's unnecessary - just leave the wheel, turn around, and look down behind the anchor 😉

  • @thetwistedtaste see the map on the app while on a big island. obviously you can turn around on a sloop.

  • @j-flo-sgt GOOD

  • Ahoy maties!
