Gilded Voyages....Very Disappointed.

  • I am usually very excited for new content but I gotta say this holiday DLC is disappointing to say the least. Only being able to pick one and if you accidentally discard it, or get attacked and sunk after gathering it makes this really lame. I expected something like getting commendations for deliver gifts to certain outposts, other players even, but this just doesn't come off very Christmas like to me.
It would have been nice to get some neat cosmetic or something like a reindeer head piece for your ship, Santa themed clothing for your character, perhaps even candy cane themed weapons?
I dunno guys, I love Sea of Thieves but in my opinion grinding for hours for loot that will most likely end up in a trip to davy jones locker and your loot stolen is not my idea of Christmas Cheer.

  • @athlondude Just loaded mine, got to island, starts first skellie captain, died and game dropped out, lost everything on first go, useless chrissy present!!!!!!!!!!

  • @grimmycool Yeah as Christmas presents go you have to work really hard for this one, and I wouldn't mind it to much if they made it to where you could go back and grab it again if you didn't get to complete it but that's not the case. I am very confused as to what made them think this was a good idea.

  • @grimmycool open a support ticket. If a technical issue caused you to lose it they can make it right.

@AthlonDude you sound entitled. It's not dlc, it's a small bonus voyage that gives a lot of rewards. Why can't they just do something small and nice without everyone complaining about how they want more?

  • Like @TimeoftheYear says, if you lose your Gilded voyage due to a technical issue, please go ahead and contact Support, and you'll get a replacement one.

But be careful with it, the game lets you know, several times, how precious these voyages are, so don't treat them like every other voyage. I've only done 1 complete Gilded Gold Hoarder voyage so far, and while I lost some loot along the way, careful planning and teamwork saw me through. Take care to plan your voyage, cash in often, and keep an eye on the horizon, and you can reap the incredibly spoils.

  • I can't relate to this one bit. I have 4 friends I've been playing with and we all got gilded voyages. The first was gold hoarders and it went flawlessly, we saw people sure but no one messed with us (on a brig at the time so it was just three of us). Then we did a skulls on a galleon and normally we would gripe at 8 bountys but they were literally right next to each other, once again flawless AND leveled my to legend. A great gift tbh and im sorry you didn't get the same result's. I know the sea. Pirates can be down right dirty but it seems to have calmed down during the season.

I get what you are saying and I am sure that there are people out there that have attempted the voyages and been successful. Unfortunately though I have seen a lot of folks that have not had the success you have and I have even seen players posting screenshots and bragging about how they went out, killed some players, sunk their ship and took their loot. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that Rare thought enough of us to give us something to do for the holiday, I just thought it was an odd choice to make it a one shot thing with no hope of trying it again should the worse happen.

  • I made out like a pirate bandit and tgere was some great pvp/pve

  • I am not saying it was a bad move. The issue I had? 25 captain chests taken by a 4 man galleon crew against my sloop.

I took a break from the game playing Red Dead...I am reminded of my issues as a player who is in a sloop 9/10 times. It is insanely frustrating just wanting to do light PvP and play solo to be hunted by bored players. Now add the loss of 25 captain chests to that feeling...pretty in the dumps.

I’ll be hard-pressed to log in again after losing this tonight to a crew who wouldn’t relent. Even if we had a chance, they camp our player spawns in the ship, I am shot once prior to my screen loading in, and then dead before I can jump in the water.

To me, the Christmas gift was fine, it was generous, but hamstringed by the nature of issues already present, at least for me when playing SoT. The nature of losing 25 captain, which as a solo player already would take days....it only made it worse. So Merry f*****g Christmas to me.

  • For myself, whether solo or on a crew, frequent dropoffs is a must. You'd never catch me sailing around with 25 Captain Chests onboard.
Tonight, myself, a friend and a new pirate went out and made a small fortune. We didn't see Karen, but the Meg sisters made a few appearances, as well as a few Skalleons. We had fun, and didn't run into a single griefer (I agree with one of the above comments about things being somewhat calmer of late).

  • @athlondude You’re welcome? It’s a gift. It’s still a pirate game, though, and carrying a lot of loot has always been risky. My solo pirate bought my OoS voyage and will be holding on to it until after the new year.

There are any number of ways Rare could have given us a gift. And, the fact is, they didn’t have to give us anything. So, you’re welcome. Sorry your free gilded voyage didn’t work out the way you wanted.

  • My friend did the Hoarders one and it was a nice 'gift'. I foolishly picked the merchant one thinking "this could be useful rep wise" only to have to find a way to carry 50 crates from the Ancient Spire Tavern down to the docks(it was just the two of us)....we got to about 6-8 and figured we would see how much it paid before we got the rest from the npc....350g an item...nice but not worth the climb. Had I researched into it before picking I would have done it on like Galleons Grave and been OK. While it may add up it was definitely the short stick drawn. I willingly tossed the voyage out.

I can agree with both sides. It was some nice loot(hoarders) but wasn't exactly free loot so I hesitate to call it a present. Either way though at the end of the day it was just a voyage so it's not like I'm missing out on doubloons or cosmetics I've been eyeing. It just gave me the option for a big payout...I'm OK with that.

  • @athlondude people stop whining if it was an issue fill a ticket and they will help you but people just stop crying about everything we all want more but it dosent mean that everything they bring to us is too little it wasnt a DLC just a nice way to say merry christmas.

Its called the FeedBack thread thus I gave feedback. Please don't be rude with me because you don't like what I had to say. If it bothers you so much to see me giving feedback in the feedback thread you can block me and never see my feedback again.

  • @solestone563412 said in Gilded Voyages....Very Disappointed.:

I've already completed 6 or 7 Gilded Missions. Just start a random game and there's a decent chance that you will pop into a crew with one active. I've found empty ships with Gilded Missions just laying active on the quest table. I've done it alone. But you could have you friends "server-hop" too until someone finds a Ship with a Gilded and some empty spots. Then just start inviting each other. If you ask nicely most players will give up their spot as well. This won't take more than 20 minutes tops. less with friends.

Yeah I've got a couple of crews I usually sail with and if and when I find the time to get together with them I am going to give it a go. Considering the nature of the voyage I'm not going to start it up until I know I am going to have the time and crew to pull it off. Thanks for the advice, was kind of you.

  • @solestone563412 yeah I can imagine that would leave a bad taste in your mouth. I am not concerned with getting a huge pile of gold, never have been. More than anything I just like getting in and having fun. I prefer fighting the kraken or skelly ships more than anything. Defeating those give me a deeper sense of satisfaction than anything else.

  • @athlondude It isn't a real event, no point of cosmetics for it. Plus the rewards are for doing one boosted voyage, that voyage that you don't even need to do. It does say upon buying it too that you only get one, if you discard it then it is your own fault, if you hoard the entire voyage's loot then don't be surprised when you lose it.

  • @taaaamas well whatever you call it, but I see your point, I get it. Was just hoping for something a bit more Christmasy. I will most likely give it a go when the time allows. The discussion here has giving me an idea though that I am going to try when I get back on the seas again, Ho Ho Ho!

  • I like the update. It’s festive which is all I personally need. Though it’s the equivalent of a phone app quality holiday update. I think anyone that’s into PvE in this game is gonna continue to be disappointed with what they release. In order to enjoy the update, you should get out there and start stealing peoples’ gilded treasure. When you pvp with a solid crew, you will enjoy every single update.

I solo’d a gilded legend voyage last night and it reminded me how boring, nauseating, and awful the actual game is. That was the last time I do any quests. I got my Athena chests but damn was it so dull and did it drag on. The skeletons are so trash lol. The worst designed ai threat in any game ever. Gross.

Go steal some gilded voyages and you’ll have a better appreciation for the update I think.

Edit - actually lesser than a phone app quality update. There’s not even holiday cosmetics come to think of it. Like.. ?? Whatever. Like I said, get into the PvP mindset and you’ll never be disappointed.

  • @athlondude what i said wasnt only about you it was more general respond for the halloween event people had the same problem for no reason so please next time give more effort to read others people comments and dont be a snowflake and take everything as an attack i just said my opinion and i respect yours

  • to be fair though, its still a voyage, getting sunk by other players is a normal thing, also, this a gift (probably mentioned before this) and lets be honest thats the thing if you dont see it as a gift, that says something about you, it would of been kinda bad if rare gave us straight up money cause then whats the point in anything if rare will just be another company who thinks there games dying so giving out free money will solve it, Of cause it wont solve it and rare hopefully knows this.

But, i do agree mind i would of liked some winter clothes as my skull jacket isnt the best thing to be wearing in the winter weather we 'ave out there. And who knows, Ferry man might be our Christmas miracle and give us this stuff.

In all seriousness though, i was expected something Christmas themed but i wasn't expecting much, rare just released (in my opinion) the best expansion so far out of them all it really ties it all together and makes the world feel great, i would've of enjoyed some Christmas themed cosmetics and/or weapons but i understand as to why we most likely didn't get these.

But lets be honest complains about losing everything is just a part of the game, its a voyage not confirmed gold so you should always expect this to happen. for example today i was doing one with my mate who did his, we were doing it for gold hoarder did 4/8 of the maps and was attacked by the kraken, meg and a sloop all at the same time sea of thieves is renowned on these unfortunate/fortunate events.

But it wouldn't be Christmas without a snowflake....LOL! Just kidding, I get it. I have spent some time in a few forums that were rather volatile and its easy to become defensive when your not sure how people are coming across. I also know how tiring it can be when you see a lot of people who seem to complain more than anything else. I have been with this game since launch, I love it in fact its my pick for Game of the Year. I also loved the Halloween stuff, I thought it was a nice way to get you out on the ocean and just enjoy the beauty of the game. I was kind of hoping for something that would bring more of that and less grinding.

  • It is the Sea of Thieves. Even a “Christmas Present” can be stolen, especially when the sea is full of thieving pirates. The title says it all. It should not be a surprise that someone is out there looking to take everything away from you.

If you are going to be s pirate sailing on these waters you need to learn how to traverse the sea like a true pirate. Learn the game. Learn how to protect what is yours so it does not becone theirs. Once you are good enough what is theirs can be yours.

It is how you sail and command your ship and the tools given to you. It is all not without risk or free to take without being willing to give back to the sea, including sending those that try to take from you down in it. The sea can be harsh yet it will bestow many great rewards once you learn to master it.

Actually my favorite parts of the game are the combat portions of the game, mainly fighting the Kraken and the Skelly ship battles. I love those. I'm not much of a gold hoarder unless there is something cool in the shop I want to buy, then I'll grind just enough to get what I want. I also like engaging with other pirates as well when the need arises. I have had some good times there as well but also some frustrating times.

  • @cr0wmium why would you expect people in a game called Sea Of Thieves to not try and steal stuff?

And you had 25 chests? Sounds like you should have turned stuff in sooner.

    Thems the breaks.

  • @marsmayflower I think we have to give a little bit of breathing room on the amount of chests here during these gilded voyages. The amount of chests you can get from them can equal up to that amount easily just from the one voyage from the way everyone has been talking. Unless you dig up 5 then leave to turn in and rinse and repeat. That would be painful and I doubt any of the people saying to turn in sooner do so.

It is not like these people have been hoarding these chests on their boats for hours. We are strictly talking just gilded voyages here.

  • @athlondude Agree. Its a bad game for solo play which is what I do. The kraken, skeleton ships, megladon, fog all go against the solo player. Very dusappointed with the developers. Ive tried to stsy with a great game but as a solo player ive got better things to do than that much frustrstion.

  • You can only do one gilded voyage? I logged on yesterday for the first time in a while and threw down a gilded voyage. It filled up the whole voyage wheel so we just did some forts instead. Sold our loot and then left the server lol. Do the guided voyages give you anything special?

  • I do like one gilded voyage each session now i think.. every hunter i see i call leave me alone i have the gilded voyage.. then they hunt and i love this in a brigatine i keep the gap small so they dont give up and show them all islands its a lot of fun with all skellies and stuff popping up :) only i have no loot and supplies and never activates the voyage so i can enjoy it with every pirate hunting me until karen thinks its enough -.- my last personal stalker kept hunting me for almost an hour it was an awesome adventure but he was slooping after my brigatine so it was easy to keep a distance and at some point a galleon joined the hunt until karen got me and i sink again -.-

So i got mixed feelings on this... i think its fun if everyone gets a nice present worth to buy a nice outfit or some sails but on the other side its a great tool to jump around and play pirate its exciting yes

  • @athlondude i stole at least 80 captain chest and about 100 + skulls from those voyages to fellow pirate .. i compleated mine compleatly and went well ...

But i lost 30 + that we stole to an alliance of ship who all had the same quest but they can be happy that the kraken catch us in a storm , tangle itself on the top of the bottom deck of our brigantine .. and sunk our ship because we didnt had enough amo to shoot the head and didnt had the same ti slice the tantacles enough before it sunk us ... and our rowboat sunk as well in the storm for " reasons " and they made us respawn at smugler bay with the wind from the east when we were between sunkengrove and galeon grave ... yep ...

  • @athlondude You are cool hahaha i like you, yeah im glad you see it this way i really dont have anything against you.
I have played since Alpha Beta launch aswell and what special about this game is that we are all HUNGRY for this game to go crazy not because it is boring or lacking of communication with the devs its because everyone who likes the game see the posibilities and cant wait to see more updates like underwater caves with mermaids snowy regions and more but we are also too harsh with the devs and its not fair.

  • @athlondude So you had your golden voyage and lost it. You are sad about it. This is it.

You know, I picked mine. I met my team, who know very well how to sail and which risks are worthwhile and which ones are better avoided. Have made three golden voyages in a row, lost nothing, spilt nothing. By the way killed three octopuses, finished two raids and a skeleton ship.
That's the other way, the story can end.
Sometimes like this, sometimes like that.

There is no insurance here, no second chance. And all the time while you're on the journey, you're like in a fever - will you make it? Will you reach your destination?

Leave the tension to this game.

  • I feel these holiday voyages are verry much in the spirit of chirstmas. You get a voyage and 1 per player.

So what's special? I'll tell you.

If you do this solo you're going to have a bad time, it's lots of maps and lots of stuff to do. Sure It's good payout since it's 4 items per island and all high quality items but the risk of losing it all is high.

    Now comes the fun part:

A crew of 4 will kill you and you're Forced to share the loot. You're having a bad time but for that 4 others will have a great time. Sharing for all :-)

Now Imagine doing this with 3 friends. Now you don't have 1 voyage you have 4 and you're doing it with friends so there's bonding there's grog to drink and fun to be had. You're also safer so chances are people won't bother you or at least you'll get away with more and quicker too.

So kids, Share your Gilded voyages don't solo them.
