Why did mermaid take me to an island when my ship wasn't sunk?

  • I was soloing a meg in my sloop. Repairing fully after every bite. Full heals, dry boat, no rain. Meg kills me like usual on a close bite, I expect to spawn, repair, and continue as usual. When i spawn, I'm on an island without any ship. So I run out to the mermaid, catch it, i get loooong loading screen, and then finally I spawn in the water where my ship was, but no loot, no ship, just the meg.

Is this supposed to happen? It was my 4th or 5th death on that Meg.

  • @wazintme I believe your ship did sink but there was some delay in the server and that's why it took you to an island and then the mermaid took you to the water. Also keep in mind that there's a whole long process for the sinkin animation. They should check it but I believe that's what happened.

  • Just a Bug. I think it will be fixed soon.

  • @lmatticl I really think I died with only fresh holes from the meg bite that killed me. Usually you have time to recover unless some freak bite can happen immediately after another one.

  • @wazintme Like others above has said it’s possible your ship did sink.

However I have ran into a bug a couple of times where mermaids have spawned me on islands while my ship is still afloat with my crew still onboard.

I would suggest raising a support ticket, the team will be able to investigate then and pass it on to the appropriate team to fix. :)

  • @knifelife will do that. thanks.

i just remembered something a random said to me when we were talking about cool possible additions to the game, "mean mermaids" I hope this isn't intentional.

  • I've seen weird spawns like this. Seems to happen from time to time.

Just the other day we are leaving snake island heading east and my crewmate hits the mermaid and spawns on old boot fort. We turned and picked him up since he could gather a bunch of barrels for us before we got there.

The weirdest spawn I've seen was another pirate. We were slooping at snake island months ago and had another sloop pull up on us. We were making evasive maneuvers trying to avoid not only the other ship but one of them trying to board, and cannon fire from the island itself. I watched as a pirate tried to grab our ladder but couldn't catch up. He fell behind as we sailed away from him in a straight line moving faster than him. I ran down to repair the wall next to the ammo box and out of the side of my screen i watch him run up the stairs from the bottom of our ship and blast me with a shotgun. I've convinced myself he hit the mermaid after missing our ladder and it put him on our ship instead of his.

  • You'd be surprised how fast a sloop can sink from 4 holes in it (the typical amount from a meg bite) with no-one there to bail. How fast depends on where the holes are.

Once your ship gets beyond a certain amount full, the game considers it sunk (usually accompanied by an ominous sound if you are on board), so the whole ship doesn't have to go down for the game to respawn you far away, just has to get to the point of no return.

  • @wazintme aha no they that isn’t intentional. The evil mermaids are still hiding at the moment :P
