Lets Talk Cannon Balls

  • So it has become obvious that green cannonballs signify player effects while pink? are for ship effects. This has raised a thought what about a blue cannonball that does water effects? here's what i thought of :)

    Ink Ball : Spreads Kraken ink in the water that slows the enemy ship down and makes it impossible to see underwater.

    Shark Ball : Spawns 3-5 sharks in the water around the enemy ship.

    Volcano Ball : Heats the water causing the same burning damage when your ship is flooding.

    Storm Ball : makes the water extremely rough around the point of impact and has lighting occasionally in the area.

    thats all i had in mind for Blue water effect balls but heres some ideas for the Pink cannon ball colors.

    Water Ball : fills ship with half the amount of water required to sink. (Pink)

    Overboard Ball : Has the same kind of impact as a meg and throws people into the water. (pink)

    Spin Ball : makes the enemy ship start to spin at a decent pace even with the anchor down. (pink)

  • this is a pretty cool idea, i really like the kraken ball idea and the shark idea

  • Water Ball = Ballastball
    Some of these seem like good ideas, but I don’t think there is a need for more CCBs in the game. They already alter PvP significantly, and I don’t think more need to be added. There still has to be some kind of skill factor in the game, and with double gunning, there’s not much more room for it.

  • @unlockall54 Please no more Cursed Cannonballs, I hate them lol but I wouldnt mind an item to spawn sharks especially to have 1 of those classic walk the plank moments. Maybe a bait ball/chest that spawns sharks once it hits water, thatd be cool

    Kinda have been with all the vague statements about exciting things in the weekly Dev videos ;)

    Just kidding, I like your idea, and the suggested blue balls for water effects, I was on the verge of suggesting one that replicates the effects of the chest of sorrows, but I think that'd be too OP.

    Your ideas are better.

  • @unlockall54 I like this idea! Especially given the number of balls people tend to send to the drink when they can't aim!

    The water filling ball is OP, if it just magically fills the ship. Also is too much similarly with the ballast ball (which already is very powerful). So, would not want to see that one in the game.

    I think the others could be funny, turning or no damage to the ship but just a bigger throw back (might be too powerful against smaller vessels)

  • @one-eye-ethan ballast ball just sinks the ship faster if u have more holes... where as the waterball would put water in ur ship before holes

  • @unlockall54 that's why I think it'd be OP though.

    If 1 cannon ball causes 1 hole which lets in 1 hole worth of water until it is fixed but your ball makes no holes so cannot be fixed and lets in a bunch of water then it will always be better to use a water ball than any other sort of cannon ball, even the other special balls.

    I mean I'd love to use those balls on people, sure. But I wouldn't want ship combat coming down to a question of which crew has access to the "one ball to rule them all"

  • @boxcar-squidy The effect would be timed and for instance the helmball has a timer... making it so you cant use another for a select amount of time... of course increase the time before a second one can take effect and boom... non op panic

  • @cotu42 nah wouldnt be too powerful cause like the meg can throw you back a little bit or a lot depending on the timing of the impact... plus these would be best used together so... shark ball then overboard ball

  • @unlockall54 yes, but it is less effective the larger the ship is. So, might cause an imbalance between the galleon vs the other two. That would need play testing.

    It is something worth balancing and trying out as I like the effect sinve it doesn't damage the ship. Maybe have the knock back based on ship type or something for balance.

    Aside from that, the SharkBall should be a ChumBall :)

  • As someone that believes that cursed cannonballs were the worst addition to the game ever, I'm very much hoping they don't expand on them. Rather, I'd prefer that they made the existing ones significantly more rare than they currently are.

    Not to take anything away from your ideas, please keep them coming :)
