Banned for banning xp farmer.

  • Was playing on xbox. Joined a galleon crew. One player wasn't playing. We brigged them. They had avatar spinning after starting an athenas. You know, so they wouldn't get auto booted for non movement. We as a crew of three continued athena mission. While on said mission, which can take well over an hour to complete, I submitted twelve reports about his Farming xp. He wouldn't leave, he wasn't helping, because of all the spinning in place, and the only way i know to get someone booted is to submit reports in hopes of getting them kicked. Thanks for not allowing for a team to be able to vote Bad players from a Great game. I have been banned for submitting reports against cheating xp farming trolls. Please fix your broken crew booting function. Brig is not enough if the offending player still gets xp and we as a crew get F'd over because we have to run short handed.

  • @cannibalbob Wow that is pretty bad Customer Service.

  • There is no option to boot people from a crew.

Is this xbox that banned you from submitting more reports or rare?

  • @cannibalbob why not just find a different server. There's plenty of nice pirate legends willing to help players out. You don't have to do what the "xp farmer" want you to do...

  • If they spinning you can ask other crew to kill him or scuttle to drown him.. if spinning on ferry continues more and more crew will report him.. i dunno what else to do :(

  • @cannibalbob try to join a discord or just keep sailing and see if anyone is nice enough to join an alliance and put one down for you.

  • 1 person submitting multiple reports against another person for the same action is considered an abuse of the reporting system. Sorry, but you did get what you deserved, because like him, you were attempting to abuse the system in your favor. That said, I sympathize with you regarding how much it sucks that, as far as we know, he didn't get punished (yet).

  • The open crew system is probably one of the worse party forming systems in any game. The brig system is an individual toxic player’s or troll’s paradise. They get to be the worse they can be to get locked in the brig to soak up all the rewards for doing absolutely nothing but what they love... being a toxic player or troll.

Rare’s answer to the open crew system issues forces good players to either let the toxic player or troll sit in the brig or force all the good players in the crew to start over. These types of bad players flock to Sea of Thieves because they get to “play” in the worst ways possible saying “I am only being a pirate”, “this is a pirate game”, this is not “Sea of Friends”.

Rare must change their stance on this major issue and implement a more respectable party/crew management system. They need to make the person who launches the ship the captain. The baton of captaincy could be passed on so the crew could sail on. The captain should be able to kick any player if they truly deserve it.

I proposed a Walk the Plank gameplay mechanic of kicking a player out with a little gameplay. It could also be used as a tiered voting system in addition to the brig. Problem with voting though is having a limited number of crew members to do the right thing when it becomes necessary. Captain of the ship is the best solution.

Many will say you cannot add a kick a crew member option because the fear of it being used against them. The most common problem is a single crew member which the captain could effectively deal with. Do not want toxic players or trolls in your crew? Just start your own ship and be the captain. Good players playing together in a good crew should never be the ones forced to start over or live with the problem.

Sea of Thieves excels at being a social game playing with others. It is a real shame the very thing that can make it great, can also more often make it some of the worse experiences in an online game. Better crew management will only make the game a much better experience for everyone and help keep it that way.

  • @cannibalbob what are you expexting? An instant ban? 12 times you reported him, I'd say that is spam

  • @ruigtand-nl sagte in Banned for banning xp farmer.:

If they spinning you can ask other crew to kill him or scuttle to drown him.. if spinning on ferry continues more and more crew will report him.. i dunno what else to do :(

But then he will be part of your crew, still.

  • @goedecke-michel

My hope would be the respawning will stop him spinning and if afk get kicked. Or else get reported by more players on ferry for afk..
Or if comes back some spawnkilling by another crew camping the brig can make them leave.. or maybe a snake can spawnkill him in the brig could be fun..

I also tried puking on them -.-

  • @cannibalbob Reminds me of a time I joined a random and there was one guy on the ship already and another that joined with me. I was jumping games helping new players. Laid down athenas for him and helped him to do a little.

Turns out the guy that was already there was AFK spinning. Normally I would leave but the guy I was playing with was a nice guy and then another guy joined and the Athena went fast. I just reported the guy and moved on hoping he would get banned or at least lose levels

Turns out halfway through the Athena the AFKer comes back and asked to be let out of the brig. I yelled at him for being AFK he said "Sorry I was at the Gym" So this guy is on an open group, AFK spinning while he went and done his own thing.

lol yeah kick option is needed.

  • As has been said, the Open crew is not the best place to find a group.
Group finder on X-Box and Discord are great places to find a crew that actually works towards a common goal.

I'm expecting this topic to be locked soon seeing as discussing disiplinary actions taken against yourself is against the forum rules but I can't blame Microsoft fot he Ban, I'd klick ban too if someone spammed my inbox. Every time you report something someone has to inspect it and look into it. doing that 12 times for the same person against the same player is annoying.

  • You as an individual should only report someone once. Sending the same report 12 times for one instance from one player probably triggered some sort of auto-ban as the system likely detected spam from you.

But yeah, its unfortunate there's no way to really deal with AFK farmers in the moment.

  • @cannibalbob yea spamming reports like that seems silly, and you were being useless to your team while doing that, poor team was probs doing it with just 2 guys for half the time because you were so busy spamming the devs with reports on a guy who is just afk farming. you realise other people report proper hackers and people who are toxic and you spamming reports about a guy afk farming can probebly wash the other more important reports away in the sea of reports.

  • @cannibalbob I want to point something out real quick.

"Joined a galleon crew. One player wasn't playing. We brigged them."

So you joined a crew, found an afk'er, brigged him, AND then went to complete an Athena?

I would have just left the second I found an afk player. Not only that, if I joined a group where the guy is the captain of the ship and he is afk. I wouldn't report him. If its his session I would have left.

So just something to think about.

  • That AFK farmer must’ve really wanted those exclusive... um... exclusive... athena sails?

  • I have seen various "Walk the Plank" solutions, but the potential for abuse kind of ruins it in most presentations.

For AFK'ers, a solution I would like is for the Ferry to kick anyone who is on there for more than 10 minutes or so. Then all you need to do is get them there, easy enough. A "Walk the Plank" could work for an AFK'er if they had to mimic some sort of sequence to confirm they are there, or they get kicked.

In this particular situation, the group was better off partying up, setting the ship to "Private Crew" before jumping onto a new server together. This way the AFK'er would get nothing as he sits there all alone until they realize what happened. They don't really lose anything since they weren't there, but they don't gain anything either.

Brig him. Sail just out into the red sea enough to get the noise/music but no damage to the ship... and everyone change servers. Leave him to come back to that later.

We have done that in the past, with a ship FULL of loot, without even leaving the server and the guy just eventually left because he knew we wouldn't turn in anything with him still online.

  • I mean, Xbox’s report system isn’t a personal vote to kick system. Don’t get me wrong it sucks you had someone AFK, but what do you expect to happen when you try and abuse a system for something it wasn’t designed for.

You should have just filled out the report and if it was that much of a hinderance to your session taken photo proof, found a new session and submitted a ticket directly to Rare, where action would have been taken.

  • I have proposed in the past that a repeating 5 minute auto-kick timer be set up for everyone while in the ferry or brig that starts after the initial 10 minutes that already kicks AFK players (so starting at the 15-minute mark). If the player isn't kicked due to movement, they will start losing gold and other potential valuable assets (with dubloons and XP also being a possibility) at an exponential rate every 5 minutes thereafter until they either leave the ferry/brig, or get kicked (or leave of their own volition). A visible notification can be used to warn players who prolong their stay, for whatever reason.

This won't affect legit players, nor will it affect legit AFK players (who'll get kicked with the initial 10 minute mark). Worst case scenario: someone is wrongfully brigged and should leave anyways due to a scurvy crew, and legit friendly players on the ferry (musicians, supply donators, etc.) won't be able to stay for very long - but let's face it; the ferry/brig was always meant to be a short term stay anyways, and they'll have the aforementioned visible warning.

    Thoughts?

  • @galactic-geek Don't like it. Can be abused towards innocent players.

The brig system right now is perfectly fine. You might have to swallow your pride but that is a small price to pay in my book.

If someone stops helping and goes afk in the middle of something you have 3 choices.

    1. Brig him, report him, throw your loot overboard, leave to join another server.

    2. Brig him, report him, Turn everything in, leave to join another server.

    3. Brig him, report him, try to out last him until he leaves.

Lots of players hate the brig system mainly because of the troll getting credit even while still being an afk troll. I would be okay with thousands of players being trolled vs a single innocent player being completely screwed over by whatever vote kick, brig timer, or whatever system you guys think of.

  • I agree for the most part I dislike how you can brig toxic players and they can just stay to troll you there should be a kick player option but it would be a tricky thing to perfect because what would keep 2 people that are friends playing with a random from just kicking him before they turn in even though that person helped and never did anything to deserve being kicked there is players that would do that just for fun so I agree but I dont know how you could make a system that doesnt just help trolls. One way to help would be to make it so they cant do a repetitive movement such as spinning they have to be doing different things like interacting with things and walking around it could possibly help some

Aside from the ways that I have already mentioned, which isn't any different from the way things are as is, how ELSE could it be abused towards innocent players? Please enlighten me, because I thought my idea was fairly rock-solid, for the most part. It even got a lot of traction when I mentioned it in the past.

  • Hello @CannibalBob

You were banned on Xbox as Rare have never had a single report / ticket from you. Looking at your Xbox profile, there is an excessive amount of reports up there so its possibly due to spamming them. You should contact the Xbox Enforcement team for further details: https://support.xbox.com
