Ship speed hacks in SOT?

  • So I just returned to SoT after a 4 month absence and was doing my first solo sloop run. I've been playing for awhile, and know how to sail a sloop properly. While sailing directly with the wind at full sail, a full crewed Galleon caught up to me at an angle from a long distance within about a 20 second time span. I have never seen a galleon sail that quickly, nor catch a sloop that quickly that was sailing directly with the wind.

Are ship speed hacks a thing in SoT now? or has there been some major changes to ship speeds?

  • Was the galleon also sailing with the wind. If you haven't played for a few months I'm pretty sure they make regular updates to the game to keep things fresh so they might have changed somethings in regards to ship speed that are not in my knowledge.

I have never noticed anything resembling a speed hack personally. However, a galleon going with the wind and having sails pointed correctly can go pretty dang fast.

Were you also probably turning your ship around or just did not have your sails down all the way or up a little bit. Other than that if you think their hacking contact rare support for assistance.

  • @mr-dragon-raaar it seems more like the advantages have the disadvantages of acceleration against them. A galleon doesn’t reach top speed as quickly as a brigantine. This allows when max speed is loss for galleon it takes some time to get back to it, thus why brigs can catch up. Interestingly, brigantines don’t decelerate as quickly as the accelerate which might be why if you’re not fast enough as a sloop against the wind a brig can catch up even when it is slowing down. Though what the OP was talking about was the sloop not going against the wind which is why it was attacked easily. Or the wording is jumbled.

  • @mr-dragon-raaar perhaps there should be a balance rework to make acceleration and deceleration more balanced as it seems to make the brig too powerful in sailing

  • @mr-dragon-raaar I do see your point as the weapon tweaking has come up with a few different problems. Truthfully I believe that the galleon should have a closer acceleration as the brig, not as quick but quick enough to be fair or a brig having a larger deceleration when going against the wind and such. Perhaps the deceleration might be a better option and might become the easy fix that more people would be happy about.

  • @mr-dragon-raaar yes I can see that. Maybe the devs will find a slight mutual agreement on the weapons, which won’t satisfy everyone but would make the worry about weapon tweaking minimal. Time will tell though of course and perhaps there will be weapon tweaking forever or not. But if everything is still developing and a few things are tried with ships I would be satisfied however it goes.

  • @mr-dragon-raaar The brigantine drifts "forever" only if you raise the front sail first, it slows down pretty quick when you raise the back sails first.

  • I witnessed something similar, a brigantine was doing 90 degree turns in half a second and no they were not anchor turning, they kept sailing normally in another second. Maybe people found out an exploit?

edit; they were at full sail the entire time I was watching.

  • @frostknighhd maybe they barrel bombed themselves to turn faster xD

  • Thanks all. I will keep my eye on it when I get another chance to play.
