it doesn't ripple around the player, it doesn't react to anything, it doesn't make anything wet, it just clips though everything...good looking but no depth at all, it's like a looping gif photoshopped into the game lol. It REALLY becomes apparent when you see the megladon swimming though the water, zero reaction he just clips though it
Sea of thieves water is the most overrated water in gaming
@ferroushornet01 It might not ripple but there is definitely water physics that effect our player, ships and rowboats. The ship physics in my opinion are incredible! Nothing like being pushed around by HUGE waves in the middle of a storm. #GreatWater
There used to be ripple effects as evident in this video from the Alpha days: https://youtu.be/hjutBuVXPNg?t=28
I don't know the reason it was removed, and don't really see a good reason for why it was.@ionei-falcon , i usually place a plant at your rock. Well, not lately, as they are more valuable.. you see, the pirate-thing, ship expenses..

I've noticed several pools and ponds on islands still have a very small ripple effect when you walk through it.@ionei-falcon You don't though. Jump out and stay still. I guarantee you that your character model will not move at all even with all the waves and stuff going on. Your character model will stay in the same position. The ship will be the same. If you raise your sails up and stop momentum from the wind, your ship won't move. The waves have no power to move your vessel in the game. It is all about the wind in SoT.
@mad-mordechai Probably the same reason they reduced the shadow resolution and removed motion blur...the xbox couldn't handle it so they cut it from all versions
@tundra-793 Are you sure? I have never noticed or experienced this anywhere, it's never reacted to my character moving through it at all. Can you recall which islands?
Either way, I would still like the option back as a graphical setting or something.
@mad-mordechai Quite certain, it's very minor, but there are definitely still ripples in certain areas.
Off the top of my head, maybe Paradise Spring, Snake Island. Possibly Discovery Ridge.
It only occurs in small pools placed within islands, never in open water, or any larger bodies of water.I see people in this thread talking about waves... where can I find them in the game?
I've never had a wave crash over the side of my boat. I've never been knocked overboard by such a wave either, and I've never been picked up and carried away by a huge wave while in the water. To me it seems like you simply bob up and down as the ocean's surface mesh warps. Sure, if you're in a storm the amplitude of the warping is increased, but then it's still just a matter of bobbing up and down.
You do hear a lot about the water in SoT. It's certainly one of the most lauded features of the game by my estimation... but most of those laurels are focused on the visual aspect. In that regard, the water deserves recognition because it does look amazing. Personally though, I will admit that I wish the water was more dynamic.
@ferroushornet01 Imagine someone playing a game, where you can shoot people out of cannons. And have working lanterns in water. And fight mythical enemies and beasts. And all these really crazy outlandish but totally awesome things. And imagine they complained about how the “water wasn’t accurate enough”. How crazy. But lanterns underwater DON’T bug you? Hmmmm
@ignius-kairos imagine necroing a 12! Month! Old thread just for that statements @Deckhands a lock for this one i think
