Help - Proximity Chat on PC

  • So, I am on PC. All of my in-game settings allow for Proximity Chat. My Son is on Xbox and all of his Audio Settings are default.

He can hear proximity chat from other players and I cannot. I am not sure why. We are not in a party and we were standing side by side. My Proximity Chat Volume is on 100 and I still couldn't hear the other crew talking when my son could hear them pretty easily. I can hear my crew in game just fine. But no proximity chat.

I have unplugged/plugged in my microphone as the article on the sot website suggests to fix the chat bug.

    Help?!

EDIT: I found this on the SoT help article for w10 Audio issues:

"If You see this [the speaking icon] and still hear no talking then you may have your audio setup incorrectly through the OS." Not sure what this means. I have no issue in other games/applications hearing other people whether in Party Chat, Discord Chat, etc.

  • UPDATE: I opened a ticket with Support and after some back and forth it was sent to the bug team as all the usual remedies don't seem to help me.

  • @RoastinCoffee In your Windows 10 sound center (right klick the horn and go to open sound settings) go to andvanced settings (bottom of the page)

There you can set up an imput and output per application. Now there's a chanse that SoT is configured for a different imput device then other applications, just change it to the one you're using and you should be set.

Isn't "input" the microphone? I think I have an "output" (hearing other people) issue right? Also, if I can already hear game sound and my crew chat, how would playing with windows input/output for Sea of Thieves in the sounds settings fix the issue?

Just curious. Not sure I follow.

  • I wanted to provide an update for people having this issue on PC. If you have privacy settings in your xbox app that block people from chatting with you, it will affect your in-game chat regardless of your settings.

Opening your Xbox App, click on the gear (settings), scroll down to find the Privacy section and open the "Xbox.com" link shown there. From there scroll down to "Others Can" section and make sure that "Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites" is set to EVERYONE.

    This fixed it for me.
