Fishing Line Keeps Breaking

  • When fishing, I can only catch Splashtails. Any other fish breaks my fishing line and gets away.

Upon hearing the rod creak from too much strain, I have tried the following:

    • Moving the right thumbstick in each direction (line breaks no matter which direction)
    • Same with the left thumbstick
    • Pressing the left trigger (the fish is released)
    • Pressing the right trigger (the line breaks faster)
    • Pressing/holding (X)
    • Doing nothing
    • (Pressing (Y), (B), (RB), (LB), or any of the D-Pad directions perform their respective hotkey functions.)

    Nothing works...
I have even checked the Controller section of the Options to see if there is a button am I overlooking or a hotkey that I have unassigned. Any help would be appreciated.

  • My guess is your trying to fight the fish while its fighting you. Do not try and bring the fish in while its struggle fighting you. Wait till it gets out of energy and stops then bring it in as fast as you can. When it starts fighting back stop and let it run out of energy again. You should never break a line this way

  • I only reel the fish in while it is tired and the line is slack.

I don't pull back on the rod when I hear the rod straining and creaking; I do nothing, but it still breaks. Even if I try to push the rod forward toward the fish, it breaks.

Is the rod strain bugged? It seems that once the strain starts, it never lets up until the fish gets away.

Is there a button to take my hand off the reel to let the fish have slack?

I'll record a clip of it and post it here. In it, I will not press any buttons nor move any of the thumbsticks once the creaking begins.

    • You have to pull the rod in the direction to where you don’t feel vibration or hear cracking. Do not reel in line during the fight (until you get more experienced)
    • Then repeat when the fish moves again.
    • When the fish tires, reel in.
    • Repeat above.
  • I think I figured it out.

If I do not move the thumbstick at all, the rod creaks, shakes, and the line eventually breaks.
If I only pull back on the thumbstick, the rod does not creak/shake until the fish swerves far left or far right.
If I move the rod in the opposite direction of the fish, the creaking/shaking goes away.

The problem I had was that I misinterpreted the creaking/shaking rod as too much strain and would let go of the thumbstick altogether, or just so happened to be pulling the rod in the wrong direction(?). I don't know, but I'll come back if I have further issues.

  • Moving the rod in the opposite direction the fish is traveling is the correct way to do it.

Not everbody plays with vibration turned on. Lowers batteries faster and more reasons. Biggest tip like you said though is to never reel in line during the struggle. Ever

Without vibration, it will be difficult to catch the bigger fish(more rare). More fight, less forgiving on timing.

Also. You can reel while fighting a fish, just takes practice.

There is a lot of good reasons to have vibration off however. This game maybe not so much but pure competitive gun play games vibration is not good

Not really relevant. If you want to catch fish, turn it on. Makes it easy.

  • You ever fished in RL?

Rare went for high fidelity on this one (as is their style)

You need to tire the fish out and then reel it in.

You pull in the opposite direction of the fish without reeling in to tire it. When it runs out of steam reel it in a little.

You can also reel it in a little when the fish changes direction, but you need to be careful or the line will snap.

I quite like it. It's not Fishing Simulator 2019, but it's fairly close to RL in terms of how it works i.e. if it works in RL it seems to also work that way in game.

  • My man keep your head you will eventually get used to fishing! Just keep a few things in mind to minimize failure.

Stand at the edge of your ship or wherever you are fishing. If your line touches the boat or the fish swims under the boat your line will break.

The type of fish depends on bait + location.
For example you can catch Stormfish with leeches, while fishing in a storm.
Dont reel in until the fish is tired. Only use WASD or your joystick to pull to the opposite of where the fish is swimming.

Tires state does not last for long, be prepared to stop reeling in if you see the fish struggling again.

It takes about 3 well-timed reels to get a fish close enough to your ship so you can pull it up.
Some of them can be really hard to catch.

    Oh and one more thing

Fish have only 2 sizes, one normal and one “trophy” which you can turn in for commendations

  • No, it's def bugged for some people. I have been trying to do everything people suggested here, and every direction causes strain and if you try to reel in in the slightest no matter what the fish is doing the line snaps. Nothing to be done until they patch it.
