I have played Sea of Thieves since it's official release. I fell in love with it since the first trailer came out. I LOVE pirates to no end. But I enjoy playing this game with my friend, and everything goes great until our sloop is blown away by someone looking to sink us for the hell of it. It takes the wind out our sail (no pun intended) to constantly get shot down, sunk, pursued, and tricked by other players who do it for seemingly no other reason other than making us want to leave the game. And it's even why we stopped playing for a long while. He never wants to play because of it and I can't play alone for the same reason. We finally picked up again since the anniversary update and did the alot if fishing and cooking, and we completed the first Tall Tale (which was a load of fun BTW). But every time we tried to hop on and do the second Tall Tale "The Cursed Rogue" we are just hitting the same issues. People are just attacking our ship moments after spawning and even stealing our ship, etc. This issue has caused us to avoid this game cause we don't want to deal with the stress. And when I feel like playing he plants his feet in not wanting to come back cause people ruin the fun. The only solution I can think of is fully closed session where you and any friends are the only players on the ocean. This way a one man sloop can fish in peace without have to worry about and full crewed galleon coming up with gunpowder barrels ready. Sorry if this seems confusing or not thought through, we just had it happen again before I wrote this and I'm kinda sick of all the fun of this game being ruined by unwanted player interaction. I hope someone else understands completely and we're not alone that this is a big issue.

You aren't alone, but there's some very emotional people on here that are going to to try and drive you out of the forum for this request so be ready for the incoming "get gud" posts.
I whole-heartedly hate the phrase "get gud" and all its derivatives. I'm tired of media today where complex ideas are boiled to catchphrases. Valuable life lessons and wisdom are lost if you have to spurt them out in 2 syllable cliches that gets you more likes.
I'll never tell anyone to just "get gud", but there are things, skills and tricks you can learn and use to improve yourself and your gameplay that helps with the problems you're facin'. I'm sayin' this as someone who's faced them countless times before you.
Aggressive pirates do not just materialize out of thin air to torment you, they exist on the same seas as you do, and thus they are subject to the same rules as you are. They can only travel so fast, hide so much and attack in so many ways.
Keepin' a lookout, planning your routes, organizing inventory and weaponry etc. are all things that can help you not just overcome these hurdles, but defeat them entirely.Or, to put it simpler; If all you wanna do is log in and fish, just fish out of sight.
I still solo sloop frequently, despite having a full crew of great pirates, but I've a system to it to prevent losing my progress. I usually do whatever I feel like doin' on the extremes of the world.Sail and set up camp on the far reaches of the map, like North-West of Smuggler's Bay, West of Old Salts Atoll, South of Devil's Ridge, North-East of Old Faithful etc.
@zirro-territo You do realize what you are asking for, right? You purchased an open world ONLINE pirate game that advertised player INTERACTION as one of the game’s BIGGEST and most important features. Now you want RARE to create a completely PRIVATE mode for their open world MMO because you have to deal with player interaction. That’s like walking into a restaurant, ordering a hamburger (knowing you do not like hamburgers), then proceeding to demand said restaurant give you chicken wings because you don’t like hamburgers. It’s simply idiotic. I will never be able to understand why people are surprised/upset with the fact that they have to deal with things like being attacked by other pirates in Sea of Thieves. From the get go, RARE has made it PERFECTLY clear that player interactions, both good and bad, would occur EXTREMELY frequently. Anyways, that is besides the point. I hope you realize that developing a completely PVE experience (which will never happen), would take development time away from the ACTUAL game. You know, the game that was advertised and that everyone payed for, including yourself. RARE shouldn’t have to change their game because again, they made it PERFECTLY clear what it was going to be. People need to play the game for what it is currently and what it is going to become. If they do not like the game THEY purchased then they can play something else, it is really that simple.
Well to be fair, this IS a game that’s marketed and designed as pure online multiplayer PvEvP, so you’re getting exactly what you bought. Nobody feels excited about losing, but it is a fundamental aspect of all video games.
I’m sorry you all are feeling discouraged, but I assure you that studying your challenges and learning how to overcome them will yield far quicker and more satisfying results than just getting on the forums and asking for the game to change for you.
With that said, there will be private servers eventually, but it is best not to expect that you would be able to earn rep or gold when those come, because that is one of the things they said they would be thinking about whenever they eventually start planning the design for private servers.
@zirro-territo so a private server...no thank you...
An advice for you, when not playing solo, change to the brigantine, it's easy doable when you're just two people and much faster and still as easy as the sloop to handle when you're two people
You have my vote. Keep speaking up for what you believe in and is right for this game. Do not let all the PvP first and only fanatics scare you away or shut you up. They love to belittle and bully all other players around here. They are terrified that they will be no one to bully and sink to puff up there egos if PvP is not forced. They feel emboldened because they are given the free reign in these forums as long as they bow and praise Rare. Rare has also given them the platform to grief and terrorize players with all the bad changes to game play to promote more PvP with the late anniversary update.
All other players and a game that could have been very good has been sacrificed to get views on Mixer and Twitch. Just so a new majority of streamers can play and promote griefing and toxicity to sell copies to people who crave watching others treat others bad. Players who really cannot play well at all. Maybe when they realize how much they screwed up the game for the sake of streaming numbers and to secretly in the open make a PvP game that will always fail, they will finally see all the players that would have made the game better. That is if they are still around or care.
@d4m0r3d there is no forced pvp in this game, ive been doing tall tales with my mate, we always leave a scout on the ship. whilst the other guy does whatever is to be done on the island solo.
ships dont teleport to you, keep awareness of your surroundings just like the experienced players do and you dont lose stuff thats important.
its really that simple.
also if doing solo you cant leave a scout, so when you arrive at an island, take the special items ashore with you and hide them in a bush. when you have what u came for look around, if you dont see any threats coming, load it all back aboard.
its really that simple

this is a good tip , but only works if you bother to keep awareness of surroundings, which it sounds like the OP doesnt.
but yeah if u got a brig u can outrun the sloops, keep pace with chasingf brigs and outrun gallys by going any direction that is not 'with the wind'
@freaktmonline i dont think you meant to @ me, but i agree mostly with what you are saying other than the solo play. i spent basically all my time on this game playing solo and it is way easier than what you are saying. all you gotta do is when you get to the island, do a 360 look around the ocean. if you dont see anyone then you are safe for a few mins. you should be able to finish your voyage by then, if you cant, just keep an eye out, use periferal vision like i do, it comes naturally to me, when running back and forth to my ship i am basically allready doing a 360 so i am seeing around me everywhere. to me i dont understand how a ship can sneak up to you or how people manage to get suprise attacked when playing solo since they are constantly having to move around the entire island, they should be seeing everything. i feel like sneak attacks can only happen to someone who is so new that they are trying to figure out what button pulls out the shovel. otherwise i dont understand how you would fail to see an incoming ship on such a tiny island where the sea is sooo huge that you can see very far away, you should have plenty of time to prepare for their attack lol.
@D4m0R3d oh yeah i clicked the wrong reply button and i more meant the tall tales stuff, cause sometimes you gotta go into a puzzle vault or soemthing. so i just hide my specal quest items (not treasure) just incase someone comes when im not looking.
but yeah totally agree, everyone who whines and complains isnt even trying to avoid being jumped. cause when you do try to keep an eye out, you never get jumped.
same people play games like dayz and moan when someone kills them cause they didnt bother to look at anything except the zombie in front of them
@blackelite-id16 i mean isnt get good, good advice. isnt that what we always do, say you dont know maths like 1+1 = 2, we dont say its ok that you dont know that, we will just make it so you will never need to use addition for the rest of your life. no we say get good, do your homework, and learn. its literally dumb not to get good.
if your on a sloop, you can avoid all other ships by going against the wind. when i say that i mean you full need your sails going against the wind. and you will then go faster than the gally or brig. just keep going against the wind. or you can learn how to fight and then you will never have to worry about other people. on sloop, head against the wind, if you have a friend have him jump off and board them, should be easy if you are heading directly against the wind cause they would be straight behind you, then he boards and drops anchor, even better would be to use gunpowder kegs on them. super easy even to do solo, I used to do this all the time if I couldnt be bothered to fight.
@x-crowheart-x well i am not PVP first, i love to adventure, however i love to take the adventure as it was intended. With the risk of getting sunk by enemy players...
Like multiple people have said its the way the game has been designed, marketed, sold and bought.
Its simple, when you want to take a CORE aspect of the game away it becomes a different game, if or when they ever release a solo experience (i dont think so for multiple reasons) i wish you all the best of luck with a boring risk free never lose environment but i truly hope that if they implement such a thing they also take another core idea of the game away, earning reputation.
I like the original idea as well. However, there is no reason that there cannot be a PvE mode and/or private servers. The Arena is basically a PvP mode. If one mode can be added, do can others. To say no is selfish on the player side and arrogant on the developer side.
A PvE mode can have alternative rep choice like the Arena PvP mode. A private server if done right, would mean separate player characters from the main game and would not need any restrictions. It is ridiculously selfish to tell others they will need to be punished for not playing your way by taking away parts of the game if they play differently than you.
I have been on lobbies people will attack for no reason over and over, I have also been in lobbies no one bothers me at all. That said these complaints every single day I mean come on this can't be happening to these people every time they log in. If so maybe it's something being done to attract this attention, like someone on your crew raised the reaper or if solo sailing around with a ton of loot visible?
@exeternautical You're off-topic..... We all know what the game is, this is not questioned, so please stop these teachings.
This question, on the other hand, concerns: Could we get a private game mode with friends, otherwise - and unfortunately - you will lose us.
And, friend, what gives? Either those players don't play anymore, or they don't play in public anymore. For us, the public players, that doesn't make any difference.
I've never been a fan of getting rid of the PvP part of the game and segregating that into PvP/PvE and I'm a 99% solo'er. I do have issues with those that use game mechanics to do nothing but grief other players for no profit other than ruining their ability to play the game.
Only current complaint I have currently is that items for Tall Tales have no value but can be stolen and destroyed by other players to make completing those Tales required to be started over, wasting a lot of time. This is an issue that needs to be fixed.
As for losing your ship, treasure, fish etc...that I think should always remain a threat. There is value in the items and losing your ship makes it become a valuable asset. It makes you learn tactics or systems that you use to try to protect it if you aren't on it.
I don't agree with a PVE type server, it's not a focus of the game. The threat of what other players might do makes you always play on the edge of your seat. PVE would make this a very lazy game.
@zirro-territo mate it's a shared world and if you change that you change the whole game for worse your idea is still a good idea though and the git good posts may happen
@schwammlgott I agree that using the Brig would be better for us and we had used it alot when it c me out. Even though yesterday before I wrote this I got swamped I'm still ready to hit the seas again. The issue with that is that my friend doesn't seem to be ready as fast as me. He bought and plays the game so we could play together. Which leaves me alone to solo a sloop, which makes the main issues I presented even worse since any situation can take down quick.
I agree that it sucks to have all your stuff taken after a long session, but I kind of love that sense of risk. I don’t think there has been another game that gets my heart racing like sea of thieves. When you have tons of loot about ready to head to an outpost and you see a galleon change course to come directly for you... I understand your complaints, but what you don’t like is exactly what makes sea of thieves great. I feel adding a PVE mode would even further divide the community. I don’t believe removing the pirating from sea of thieves is the right answer. Just take the bad with the good.
@exeternautical Yes this is an online game and pvp is an inevitable part of online games, however GTA Online is fully multiplyer too, and they've got both passive mode and closed sessions to prevent the same issue that I have brought up. If Rockstar can think of a way then I know Rare, who I'd say are more talented game studio, can make one too.
@zirro-territo
While GTA does have a passive mode, its quite limited to what you can do in the world. It disables missions, so would the Sea of Thieves equivalent be no voyages? While they are similar, this isn't an apples to apples comparison.I think the longer the game is out the worse it’s going to get. I do not feel a full access passive mode is the answer.
Personally I try to sneak onto a ship which isn’t paying attention and see what they have. If they are farming castaways and seafarers chests then I know they are new and let them be alone. Or let them cut me down and feel good about themselves. Letting new players learn should be a priority for the community and the survival of the game depends on it.
If I get aboard your ship and you have high tier loot... then you have been playing long enough to know better and I will kill you
