Ghost Ships

  • These rare spawning ships would always travel within the fog, the audible clues one is near would be a mournful ringing of their ships bell and the creek of tormented wood on the waves. Perhaps a dull blue glow would be barely visible through the fog.

These craft would be swift in the water and sailors would normally only catch a glimpse of it before it sailed past. They would be non-aggressive to begin with so sailors could still use the fog as cover from other players.

You would have to use your lantern at all times if you managed to board this ghostly craft otherwise you'd fall straight through the hull as if it wasn't there.
on the lowest deck you'd find 3 items an ethereal chest, skull or crate of souls. The moment you picked one up and dropped your lantern you'd fall through the hull into the water.

They'd be a few seconds before an ungodly wail was heard across the waves and the ghost ship would materialise into the world bent on retrieving it's stolen cargo. You'd have the choice to stay and fight in the hope to retrieve the other two rewards or outpace the ship to the edges of the fog.

Both escaping and staying to fight have their risks. You'd have to be at full sail to stay ahead of the ghost ship with no idea if you were about to smash against the rocks or beach on an island. That moments delay could give the ghost ship the time it needed to pull along side you and send you to your grave,

Staying and fighting would also be risky. You'd be fighting against a ship unaffected by the fog whilst you struggle to see. The ghost ship wouldn't have cursed cannon balls but it could have 5 or 6 cannons along each side.

As per skeleton crews the ghostly crews can do everything but bail and would respawn until the boat sinks. Perhaps whilst fighting the craft the otherworldly influence would affect your navigational equipment sending your compass crazy as if you were in a storm making navigating the fog even more treacherous.

  • Woow! That sounds sooooo coool! i was thinking that dark mermaids trying to kill u and destroy ur boat on the fog was cool, but this is also a great idea to have in the horror of going through the fog!
    Amazing ideaaa!
yeehaaa! see u in the fuuuriooous seaas!

  • @guybrush3pwood2
Great idea! Then in addition to it adding cool gameplay, maybe people will finally stop calling skelly ships ghost ships XD

  • Do it Rare!

  • What would make it even more interesting and challenging is if as they crashed into you they'd have a 1-4 man (depending on your ship type) raiding party jump from the Crows nest onto your ship to cause chaos! Some skeletons might miss the jump others will make it! The skellies would have the skill of say Athena Skeletons. Why not introduce a new mechanic with this great idea? With or without skeleton boarding your idea is well thought out and I love it!

  • I know this: Skeleton boarding would cause a huge "What the hell?" Factor.

  • One thing I didn't think about.
Every now and again you'd have to find the ghost ship stationary within the fog for the solo guy who wanted to give it a shot. Couldn't have the poor solo guy jump on board, lantern in hand, find the ethereal chest, just to fall through the hull miles away from his sloop with no way to escape but swim.

  • @guybrush3pwood2 It might be hard just getting back to your ship with your first piece of loot!😂

  • @duke-of-spire yeah, that delay between the theft and the ghastly wail has to be just right. If you're more than a 1 man crew should be easy just have to make sure your mate is following in the fog and doesn't loose the ghost ship. have to make keeping up a bit tricky

  • @guybrush3pwood2 I have an idea. What if the three articles of loot from the ghost ship emitted a beam of light that could be seen from the crows nest? These beams of light alone would be just that, a beam of light. Put these three articles together and they would form a small ghost cloud of a reaper above both the ghost ship and your ship as long as you have them! This way you can actually locate the Ghost ship from the nest or locate lost articles/ players in the water. Others can locate you until you sell though!

  • Comon Rare hire this guy already!
And make the guy who invented the Thrones event swab the deck!
