Noobs have made the arena a lot worse, it's near impossible to play with them and you usually just quit the match, but then a another player joins but nobody likes to play in an already started match, so they also probably will quit. or the noobs themselves, seeing that they don't have a full crew start to quit one by one until all of them leave, this means less crews in the match which is bad. so don't you think noobs should get a tutorial for adventure and arena, this simple solution would make it quite easier to play in the arena. and then the pc players are like "xbox idiots are ruining my arena experience!!!" listen i am an xbox player but i am pretty decent at the game, and there a lot of other xbox players who are good also. so if crossplay would be split all of the decent and good xbox players will almost constantly get noobs for teammates. but if noobs will get a tutorial instead it would be a lot better. also crossplay means xbox and pc players have great adventures together, and i had some awesome adventures with pc players.
PLEASE LISTEN ME OUT !!!!! (noobs in arena, and crossplay)
The problem with arena is that other multiplayer games aren’t as punishing if you have noobs on your team. With the current format of 4 people in separate teams and a total of 6 teams that’s a lot of things that need to be right for players to enjoy the experience.
Battlefield is a good example of regardless of how many noobs you have on your team you can still enjoy the match. Even if you are pushed to your main spawn you can still try and get kills and work the flanks and take a control point.
Even RB6 siege can be enjoyed if you have a noob or two. They usually die first and alert you to the enemies presence and class. Since that’s a game you can wipe the other team if your good enough you can still enjoy your game.
Unfortunately Sea of Thieves requires really good team work and coordination. Something rare with randoms. Which is a shame. You can always tell a match with 6 ships and the crew that knows each other and has good team work. They dominate the match with 10-15,000 silver on average.
I’d hate to be the person in charge of balance and keeping arena moving foreword. Seems like a large task.
@k1lroyw4sh3r3 I like your post, because it really is punishing you for the noobs on your team, I've posted about this before.
When you go in you get 1st place 90% of the time by just existing with a 4 stack and letting the other players anchor repeatedly
@captancola I think the issue is two things. First there’s no tutorial. New players stand there with their “sniper rifles” in hand while the sails need adjusting. In a engagement new players shoot cannons... that’s it. They don’t realize water sinks ships. It’s rare to see a player in starting clothes or naked repair or bail. Same with the helm. I don’t grumble if I’m not on the wheel but jeez players just pull up right next to ships so we get to pummel each other into a war of attrition. So a tutorial for both Arena and Adventure is sorely needed.
Second is the ship management is to hard for randoms to deal with. Which is a shame because that’s the best part of Sea of Thieves. The ships feel organic like they are a part of the world. Would arena benefit from just player combat on islands with different game modes? A Halo inspired oddball with a fort skull? King of the hill? Capture the Captains chest? Would this type of multiplayer be more enjoyable?
@cookieconsumer6 I totally here what your saying but here is the funny thing about sea of thieves... so many people who have logged 100s of hours are actually quite bad at this game. So it not just a noob problem, it is that a majority of the folks that seem to play this game really aren't great at games nor do they need to be which is probably why they play this game. This includes myself :)
@kushdrifter said in PLEASE LISTEN ME OUT !!!!! (noobs in arena, and crossplay):
You should be loaded up with people that are not exactly the same level as you but at least nearby so that way you have at least a chance a bumping into competent players.
If a player is level 40 across the board why should he load into arena with three people with very low levels...I think its bcuz of the way the game is right now, like you guys stated, they dont have tutorials set up for both adventure or arena (beginner tutorial after making a new pirate in adventure mode does not count as a proper tutorial bcuz it only shows you how to eat a banana, get chest and sell it) so they're matching ppl that haven't played as much with more experienced players so those experienced players can hopefully show them around the works.
We definitely need tutorials that show more than how to get a chest in adventure mode so players will know how to handle confrontation on the seas. Same thing with arena. Except a more pvp oriented tutorial.
Like battling an npc crew maybe? Idk what the tutorials should be myself but obviously something a lot more helpful then what we dont have as of now.
We can all agree a tutorial could be in place.
A tutorial how ever does not fix "noobs". It does not teach u tactics in combat situation.
A "noob" with a tutorial will still roll up in cannon angle of enemy ship.
They still go for cannonshots which they miss.
They will still walk past the hole and let the ship sink.I dont think a tutorial fixxes this. Start an open crew and check out the levels of your team mates.
U can even find pirate legends that are "noob".
And they played enough to Not need a tutorials anymore.Yes add a tutorial. But thats not the fix for the problem u are having
@acebead40319154 i mean noobs that just bought the game, believe me there is nothing more terrifying in the arena than a noob at the helm. unexperienced players still know the basics of the game: how to fight, how to repair, and how to bail water. sometimes it does not matter if you are a pl, i think teamwork and communication is more important.
Going to start by pointing out that Sea of Thieves is not suitable for a competitive PVP arena game.
Why is this?
- Because the fight mechanics are designed specifically for adventure mode.
- Because the core game design and development is again specifically designed for Adventure Mode.
- Because the small crew size of 4 as pointed out before gives 25% of the power of the crew to a single player.
- Because Sea of Thieves is a social game by design and Arena PVP is not that, never can be and never will be on the surface for a very painful list of reasons.
Arena can NEVER work out because:
PVP players hate to fail and Arena is populated by 4 kinds of players who do not typically work well together for long periods of time that are needed for a competitive arena system to develop into a "Community".- Type A Arena player is pre-form organized PVP only with very scripted META play style; these players are usually a full pre-form group if it's possible in game. These players are either hyper toxic or so relaxed that you need to check for a pulse; there is almost no in between.
- Solo Q guy that has no friends but wants to win so bad that he's toxic as hell when things go wrong; unfortunately that's often.
- Solo Q guy that wants to be carried to victory and is also bad, but also becomes toxic in some way when he's not winning. For this guy things are usually going wrong so he's usually toxic.
- Rare as hell, but "Group of RL buddies", these guys are chill and not usually the best but tend to have the most fun; they run in groups of 2 to max group size and are typically comprised of the above type arena personalities, lack any kind of organized plan or "meta" play due to their very wide variety of skill level and group composition.
Because of these above mentioned Arena personalities the Arena system in most games can never work out because most of the participants believe they're god's gift to PVP and all should bow before their might. All losses are typically another players fault (naturally), and as a result "Friendships" are fleeting in the arena systems of video games because if you want to win you gotta play with the BEST possible players; in other words you don't get to play with your RL and X-box friends any more if you want to move up the ladder (most arena systems include some kind of rating / ladder component).
As a result Arena PVP while potentially fun typically never is because of the players who populate it.
Good day.
@swimplatypus7 this is a good interpretation of Arena. I’ve felt that locking cosmetics behind placement wins was a bad idea in general. The legendary weapons should be locked behind kills with that specific weapon. As getting kills is more within your control. 500 or 1000 kills to unlock seems reasonable.
Lock the sea dog ship livery and cosmetics behind other tasks. Such as digging up chests. Getting hits with a cannon ball. Earning silver. These are again more within your control.
The whole Arena event they did with Joe Neate and his crew against other crews to me was some kind of attempt to make Arena look like its this amazing experience when it’s usually a landslide with one ship way on top. I’ve logged at least 120 matches in Arena and I can say only about 5-10 games where amazing games that were close and came down to the wire. The rest were barn burners.
Now that I unlocked the sea dog outfit I’m going back to Adventure. Arena needs some tweaking before it can achieve a higher place.
It plays out the same in every single "Arena" style game regardless of who made it because that's the sort of people who're attracted to "Arena", the guy looking for a so called "Fair fight" or "test of skill" when no such thing almost ever exists no matter how much we may attempt to justify it to our selves.
For this reason is Adventure mode 100X better because asymmetrical warfare exists as the great equalizer between skill and cunning.
Agreed.
I had 2 team mates on my ship in the arena today and they had no idea as of how the game works. They had no mic or did not even type, they literally just fooled around and wasted me and my friends time.
Change it so new players have to reach a certain reputation level with the standard reps (goldhoarders, order of souls, trading company) before they can que up for arena.
I play nothing but random Arena.
Make sure you bring a thick skin.
Tutorials wont help much. Unless there's one that shows how to solo a galleon.I'm the one guy that doesn't quit, but watches all his crewmates drop out one by one. Usually without a single word.
It's not always painful, sometimes a random group of decent players can assemble and pull off a great win.
I can't control what other players do, the best Arena players already know what has to be done. Your either helping or not.
I'm getting paid and my grind moves forward, irregardless.
Couple suggestions don’t play open play. Find a team or friend you won’t deal with randoms. This game is solely based on pirate interactions. Learn as you go. Why not take some pirates under your wing mold them into the pirate you want them to be. It’s not noobs that ruin the game. I’ve played with a lot of new players. With good teamwork and communication you only need 1 person to know what they are doing as long as everyone listens.
