Idea: Raven booty challenges

  • Hello! Not been here in a while, but I have an idea.

I'd like there to be a time limited, server-wide, high-return challenge within Sea of Thieves.
Every few hours (or more or less, don't mind,) a raven would land on your ship, notifying you of a fantastic treasure which is available to plunder. It'd be really high value, so worth changing your plans and going after, and the raven message could be a map or a clue, or whatever else.
The key thing is that all other ships on the server get the raven at the same time too, so it becomes a race against the clock to reach the location and get the prize first, as there's only one.

I get that it has similarities to a skull fort, in that you're all drawn towards one prize which you all want, but I think offering a high value item which you can get relatively quickly will encourage more people to go for it. Everybody knows skull forts give you tons of stuff, but they can take a long time too.

Lastly, apologies if anybody has already suggested this or something similar before. I tried a search but couldn't see anything. And thanks to my crew mate Kerrigan for his input into the idea too.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  • A universal voyage that every player can see and do. I've always wanted to see how this would work in practice.

  • @wildbloodoz Go to Arena to get your wish.

  • @galactic-geek that made me laugh

  • @galactic-geek
I'm talking about an emergent voyage in Adventure mode

  • @wildbloodoz As the OP said - active skull fort.

  • @galactic-geek
I consider the skull fort to be an event. This is a voyage, which requires following a map to an island etc

Anybody on the voyage will have the same information as the other crews, but it functions like any other voyage. You wouldn't see other ships on your ship map, and obviously you have the entire sea map to cover (which is why Arena is not the same).

I can see it work as a multi-island voyage. Crews' would choose which destination to visit first. If another crew happened to complete their part of the voyage, then the map for that island would disappear from everybody else's inventory, giving them notice that somebody has part of the treasure etc

Edit: @m90Tom sorry to hijack your thread XD. Trying to expand upon the idea without having to explain too much never seems to work

  • @m90Tom

I like it, but can we have it be a seagull? XD

And galactic geek is maybe right, but i also suggested an Arena Mode with only one island and one treasure to find.

I thibk in Adventure this is something different, not all will go for it.
Think of beeing in DR going for the last Athena Chest and the Message says it's at Mermaids Hideway.
I thibk the crew wont go and even if the wont be the first arriving i guess.
    Whatever i like the idea.

  • Thanks for the replies guys! Don't apologise for hijacking, further suggestions help to refine ideas normally.

I do get the comments about arena and skull forts, but as I say, this would be an instant reward once you got to it, rather than being a 10-20 minute fight with skeletons, whilst having to defend from other crews too.

I think the game needs more things to make crews come together in short skirmishes, much like what they've tried with the gunpowder challenges this month.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  • And @Bugaboo-Bill I did think that myself! Not precious over bird species :)

  • @m90tom How about this, Have a mysterious stranger who appears on your ship with a map. The map contains 4 locations of 4 pieces of a tablet. You must then go to all 4 islands and find each piece. When one is located its visible on the map table for everyone in server to see. So if you find 2 but another crew finds 2 then you have to either work together or steal the remaining pieces. Once united the 4 pieces of the tablet show a riddle or map where to go. Once there you must use the tablet as a key to open a puzzle chamber. Once completed it would open to a passageway down to a long forgotten shipwreck filled with treasure. They could introduce a new type of loot. A special chest once turned in unlocks a part of this ancient ship or gear from the crew IE weapons, clothes, tools. Each time you turn in this special chest you unlock the next piece. They could make multiple ship sets locked behind this type of gameplay. Any thoughts?

Edit - The person who shows up on your ship could be a ghost of the crew thats been forgotten or a descendant of one of the crewmembers. Rare could think of multiple ways to deliver that type of adventure but finding a shipwreck filled with treasure would be fun I think. Especially if you could unlock new sets instead of just gold. You could reduce this to one key you need to find or two, could even wait until some other crew found each piece and then attack.
