"Kingdom of Knights" a Medieval Sea of Thieves idea

  • Sea of Thieves is the quintessential Pirate adventure.
You sail a ship, you dig up treasure, and you fight other pirates...basically Pirates of the Caribbean the game.

"Kingdom of Knights" can be the archetypal 'Knight in shining armor' game, where you slay Dragons, take their treasure hoard, and of course joust with other knights.

So you start off as a Peasant in Rags, and you get to ride a Donkey as your mount.
You go out and kill Dragons, Trolls, and other mythical creatures, found in Dungeons (The "Islands" of this game) to earn reputation with the "Royal Knights" faction.
[a.k.a you bring them the skulls of the Dragons you slay, you get Gold coins and reputation, just like Order of Souls]

You use the Gold you get to unlock armor sets (But the armor is only cosmetic, you don't get any armor bonuses), and you can upgrade your Donkey into a horse with horse armor. (The donkey is basically your ship, which you can improve)

Then there are the "Lore Keepers" faction which ask you to find and bring back ancient Tomes, Relics, and other magical items, which they give you Gold and reputation for.
[a.k.a Order of Souls 2.0, but more about magical items rather than skulls]

Of course you will have your "Gold Collectors" faction that ask you to bring back Treasure chests that they open for you.

Now what I think this game can do even better than Sea of Thieves is hold large scale Fortress battles (The "Endgame" content).

You have to get an army of your guild mates to take down an enemy Fortress...which will have Dragons, Necromancers, Skeletons, Skeletons with Gunpowder barrels, and finally the Skeleton King.
It will feel like a Helm's Deep battle from Lord of the Rings, where sometimes you are the attacker, and sometimes you and your friends have to defend a Fortress from a Skeleton army, or even other players.
(Because certain Gold chests, Relics, and Dragons spawn within the Fortress, and you want to protect it for your Army).

Now how will you haul all this Treasure back to your Town? Surely a Donkey can't carry all of this?
Well out in the World there will be wagons, a bit like the Row boats in Sea of Thieves, which you can store all your stuff onto.

So just to finish off this post, this game will be similar to Sea of Thieves in that there is no "Vertical progression", i.e. you have to get to Level 'X' to unlock content 'Y'.
What I like about Sea of Thieves is a new player and a Veteran player can all do the same content without the new player having to spend too much time catching up to their veteran friends.

So as I mentioned earlier, the "Armor sets" will be cosmetic only.
You might have a player in full golden armor standing next to a guy in peasant rags, but they will both have the same character power.

Your goal in this game is to become the "Grand Knight", to unlock the various armor sets and Horse appearances, and to partake in epic Fortress battles.

  • This would be very cool. I would love to see the same art style and functions of SOT in a 1300 - 1400’s Era style game based off English, French and Nordic knights.

  • i think in general rare has a pretty good formula, although istead of horses i suggest having war parties like the crew system that use davinci war machines instead of horses lol.

  • This doesn’t really belong in this category. Feedback and suggestions is only for this game, not a hypothetical ‘new game’.

I suggest moving it to the off-topic general discussion category.

  • There are already several Xbox games featuring Medieval settings that you could take advantage of. There is no need to ask Rare to split their resources away from our pirate adventures.
