Wild Rose pendant lost

My friends and I had Rose's pendant on board when we were attacked, killed, and sank by a galleon. When we respawned, the mission was still active and the enchanted compass lead us to Rooke and George's pendant. We returned George's pendant to sanctuary outpost and nothing happened. The enchanted compass now leads back to where Rooke was killed and George's compass was acquired. The mission is still active but Rose's pendant is long gone. Anyone have this happen before? How do I finish this mission without the other pendant or at least trigger a fail so I can start over. This is my 5th and last time to have to do this chapter of the tall tales and its frustrating to be stuck here and have to start over.
