Server Merging Suggestion

  • It has happened to others before me, and it has happened to me now: A server merge of our ship, in the middle of the ocean, with the anchor raised, just after we defeated a skeleton ship. It resulted in the precious loot disappearing entirely before we could even glimpse at a single coin!

I suggest that imminent server merges be preceded by a warning phase, which would give the crew some time to prepare. They can then confirm when they wish to move seas, or be forced to when the timer runs out. I feel like a small reward should be given as well to incentivize people to go for it when they can.

  • Agreed. I dont think there should be a way to stop the server from merging per say as others have mentioned. But i think a timer would be possible. You know as a server that you have only had X amount of ships for Y amount of time. So there must be some internal clock that starts figuring when ships will be merged. I think it would be possible once the parameters were met that a count down timer would begin. Today i lost over 300k in loot due to a server merge. Our ship sank do to skelykrakamegaldon during an already PVE event. We recovered, salvaged all the loot, swam it to the nearest island. Sent someone back to get the ship and then started collecting the loot. in an attempt to make the loadup faster we all jumped on the ship. once upon the ship the server merged. our loot with the last 4 hours + of stacking then disappeared before our eyes.

SOMETHING, could very easily be done to allow people the knowledge a merge is coming. had we known i would have done my best to not board the ship, stay on the island. or at least made that attempt to stop the server from merging once everyone was on the ship. Or even knowing the merger was coming we wouldn't have taken on the PVE fight that close to the merge.

it could be something as simple as the pop ups that happen when mait. is happening. In 30 minutes we will be merging the server. in 20 minutes we will be merging. in 15, in 10 and then countdown from 10-0. once it hits 0. The next moment the parameters are met for a server merge. Merge them. Or even make it a range. well there was this loot within this range of the merge. We will carry that loot on to the next server (i know this is a lot harder than i'm making it seem. just dash a few 101100 here and there but im reaching for something)

  • just 5 minutes ago my buds and I were doing FOTD and just started the boss stage without facing any other players so far. My friends and I had planned this for weeks and had purposefully gotten level 50 in Gold hoarders and OOS and 49.5 in merchant. we wanted to hit pirate legend by completing our first FOTD but the server merge had reset the entire fort. no skellies, not ritual skull but the lanterns were still lit. It's late now and we have to postpone our pirate legend rank-up for another week. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!

  • I suspect that server mergers are becoming more and more common due to server hopping Reapers. Just the other day, at various points throughout our session, my crew spotted 2 individually separate RB ships on the map table. We watched them closely. They would sail for a bit, covering a wide swath of ocean (thankfully nowhere near us), and then disappear off the map table. Right after both instances, we were server-merged. We weren't in the process of moving any loot, so we got lucky and were still able to turn it in, but 2 server mergers during a single session? Annoying!

  • The server merges are a pain. We pulled into Golden Sands to unload and just as we stopped the server merge text came up. We couldn't move or anything (which is a pain in and of itself) and then when the merge ended, another player's brig had spawned at the dock in front of us. The problem was, we were at the front of the dock and our two ships collided. Their ship sank (we think due to the players leaving) but our ship had some damage that needed repairing.
