Tips and Tricks For an Intermediate Player

  • Ahoy mateys!

I am not a landlubber; I just believe it interesting to ask ye for any tips and tricks ye ole sea dogs might know. Aye, though I've sailed across these seas I can not help but wonder if there be any secrets ye buckos might have. Keelhaul me if there be nothing else to this game!

  • On thieves' haven at 11:24 a skeleton captain spawns to the north west named D. B. Cooper he is only out for 71 seconds before he despawns

he drops a map to a chest that contains about 200k gold

  • @wolfmanbush

Blimey! What a treasure, I thank ye heartily. Would this time be UTC? I am guessing no other restrictions?

    in game time

some say that the haunting howls heard at night while sailing the sea is ole' D.B. crying out in search of his fortune that he never had a chance to enjoy while alive.

  • @wolfmanbush

Aye, this be the best thing I've heard yet! Would this be p.m? I be guessing so as ye have shared this spooky tale.

i quote you a post from 6days ago and highlited he "tips", it may not be in the right context, but it's tips anyway :)
If you was looking for something different tell me, i maybe can help further.

@stundorn sagte in Are people normally such jerks?:

@sonaea yes it is what you will experience 9/10 times unfortunately

tips: get a crew or be very stubborn learn the game and know the Sea and allmost all island like the back of your hand so finding an island on the map and a treasure on any bigger isladn doesnt take you 30 minutes or even longer.
That need you to havent your ship in sight. Watch all around, no ship can come out of nothing, that is the best defense you have.
    Beeing aware and reacting early!

As there is no vertical progression the game is only about knowledge and some skill to to the right things at the right time.
This can be challenging because it all is contested until you have sold it.
But the game is not about progression imho, because its horizontal and only about cosmetics.
So take your time and prioritize things right.

    know this for sure

and many more you can learn by yourself exploring and just making experiences, bad and hopefully good ones...

Not every Ship that sinks you is toxic PvPers, not everyone will trashtalk you, some will show mercy and make fun, some will even give you your loot back or leave you when they see you dont have anything.

Dont put an emissary on, be patient, not greedy, because you make yourself a target for everyone, even the more passive pirates! edit: except you want to PvP o like to be contested!

Fly under the radar when solo, dont be stubborn in goingg there, when there is another ship!
Avoid PvP at first if solo, only do it if you feel comfortable, other run or even sacrifice it all into the shroud.
Remember, if you were able to do that the Crew hunting you gains nothing!
You also wasnt able to sell your booty, but you have spoiled them their easy win!

If it's another soloer attacking you - what will be rare - give it a try and learn.

Sell often!!! edit: and only have what you are ready to lose, best is to be rey to lose it all and come back anyway to then win it all!!!
And the No. 1 Rule of Sea of Thieves

    KEEP WATCHING THE HORIZON!!!

and react properly, you will lose, but the time you will win is a good time and i quote you
Ramsey Singh the Piratelord: It's not about the Gold, its about the Glory!

be god sports in winning and losing, be an idol, unfortanetely 90% of the playerbase need that ^^

if you find yourself in a spawnkill situation, ESC, Menu, My Crew, SCuttle ship also possible from the Ferry of the Damned.
Dont grant them your supplies, sink your ship asap!

i think if i start brainstorming i could continue, but this seems to be a good start if you consider that.

edit: be aware of Mermaids of other players, no stream of smoke!
use the speaking trumpet, it can do wonders, but gurantees nothing,
Dont trust alliances, and "we are friendly" usually means they are kidding you and want to play bad tricks!

  • Cursed cannonbal tips.

if a ship's about to hit you with an anchorball (skellie ship with it, or just your feeling of the player's intent). start droping it before it hits, the curse will stop the anchor drop and raise it back up, and your ship will never go at a stop.

rigging balls before a chainshot to the mast, most of the time the crew will not realise the mast is indeed broken as it will only fall when they lower their sails.

using a ballast or anchor ball on the ship your on by hitting a fallen mast. mostly usefull on a gally ( you can only hit the center and back mast), you can.

    1. throw a ballast ball on the ship you just boarded helping it sinks if, for exemple they repaired their lowers before you killed them, but still have a good ammount of highers.

    2. get you anchor up quickly in 1 sec and only needing 1 crew, so the others can defend ladders, repair etc, really usefull to recover from a bad volley/broadside.

Venom and firebombs (and might aswell put some blunderbombs). works wounder to wound the enemy crew, or force a freshspawn ship looking for revenge to run out of food.

just make sure their ship has no holes so they can only use the water barrel.

hope you find those tips usefull, and did not know most of them.
