I think something to identify player killers (or in this game probably ship sinkers) would help players read the intention of a ship heading their way, in Runescape for those who didn't play when you killed another player in the wilderness you'd have a floating skull and crossbones over your head for a while and I think a similar system put in place could help dissuade crews from pulling up behind an empty boat anchored at a beach and sinking it for no reason for example, they'd have to weigh the risk of being marked as baddies for a few minutes or however long for the benefit of either just griefing or thieving or whatever their motivations for piracy are, thoughts?
PK marker (like skulls in Runescape)
@edgarallanschmo I think there is no reason to attempt to mark PK and non PK players - you'll find out soon enough what their intentions are.. even a pirate flag vs. some other type of flag is not going to reveal a players true intentions, because smart PK'rs will lie and kill you when you least expect it - that's what I would do. RIP
@jjblackhat well the point as I said was to try to dissuade people from just sinking random ships they see, it'd only be temporary so it's not like 5 minutes later they cant lie to another crew, plus I know a lot of people want a bounty system as well and this could sort of be tied into that too if Rare cared to do it
@barnabas-seadog
In a podcast one of the devs (forgive me I forgot who) said that they are thinking about adding a Voice Trumpet that allows you to speak to people from far away. Social pirates could use this to broadcast their intentions.
Personally, I intend to use it to give ships terms. One chest, or we will sink you and take them all. If you don't have any chests, anchor and let us look around and we will leave you alone. I'm after your looties, not your ship or your life.
@edgarallanschmo I guess I'll be the one sinking you and your crews ship as soon as I see you every time - because I am a PIRATE. Good luck on the seas - RIP. :)
@jjblackhat haha maybe so, but don't think just cause you don't have a frownie face floating above your ship I'll let you get close to me ;)
@shisizle Well thats great but as someone else said lying is part of the whole piracy game so I'm simply talking about a system that true pirates won't care to be marked but the liars will at least have to consider "well if I lie to THIS crew, do they have enough loot to make it worth not being able to lie to that ship over there for another five minutes?"
@jjblackhat It's not meant to take away anything from the gameplay, hell back when I played runescape I purposefully got the pk mark because I thought it was cool and it allowed me to show off haha
@scheefinator you seem to think that because I think this is a cool idea means I think PvP is bad? I'm the same as most other people firing on anyone who gets close I just think its an interesting idea to have something somewhere that denotes that trait about you or me or whoever it doesn't need to be big enough to give your intentions away I'm just spitballing ideas here lol
@naamar1 Well in my head I was imagining just sinking a ship would put a mark on your ship somewhere, but I suppose just as an example if it were the same as the system in runescape then you'd only get it if you were to attack first but then anyone who attacks you would not get the mark. But obviously you raise a good question if you only get the mark on the victory then yea you'd get marked, so I guess just hitting an unmarked ship should do it, which I figure can be sorted out because I know there's a musical cue as soon as you hit another ship
@edgarallanschmo said in PK marker (like skulls in Runescape):
@naamar1 you'd only get it if you were to attack first but then anyone who attacks you would not get the mark
What if I attack first but miss? ;)
@naamar1 lol c**p well I guess in that case its a good thing its only temporary and it's only cosmetic, so no real disadvantages are applied either way
